Chapter 49 : Jiang Yu wants to go on a blind date with my cousin
The next day, Jiang Yu went to find Xie Fei fei to talk.
She expressed her gratitude for He Feiyan’s help with the fabric issue.
“Thanks to you too! How about I make you a dress? The clothes I make are really pretty.”
Xie Fei fei was naturally a bit tempted, but fabric was so precious these days, she didn’t dare accept.
“You can just make one for yourself, no need to think of me.”
Jiang Yu took her hand and said, “There’s plenty of fabric, enough for both of us.”
“Plenty?” Xie Fei fei was surprised.
Jiang Yu looked a bit uneasy and explained softly, “It was brought by Feiyan’s brother. He asked his former comrades for it, so there’s extra.”
Xie Fei fei stared at her in shock, wondering if He Tingyue had feelings for Jiang Yu. Hadn’t he said he would refuse her before? Why was he suddenly coming to compete for a partner with her cousin?
“Jiang Yu, my aunt called me back. She said my cousin has applied for leave and is preparing to take a train back from Heisheng Province to meet for a blind date. If you don’t want to, I can turn him down for you.”
Jiang Yu was taken aback and didn’t respond immediately. She still couldn’t sort out her feelings about He Tingyue.
If she turned around to go on a blind date…
“Is he specifically coming back to meet me?”
Xie Fei fei shook her head. “Of course not! He hasn’t taken leave in years; he’s just coming back to see my grandparents. The blind date is just a side thing since his parents are pushing him. Don’t feel pressured, a blind date doesn’t mean marriage. You might not even click with my cousin.”
But deep down, she hoped Jiang Yu would end up with Huang Zefang.
Jiang Yu nodded. “Alright, since you’ve specifically mentioned it to your aunt for me, I can’t back out now. I’ll go and meet him.”
If He Tingyue really had feelings for her, he hadn’t made it clear yet. She couldn’t keep pushing herself away.
Xie Fei fei was delighted, at least Jiang Yu hadn’t let herself be swept away by He Tingyue’s charm!
“Once my cousin arrives in Beicheng, I’ll have him set a time and let you know.”
“Sounds good. By the way, can you return this notebook to Feiyan for me? Just tell her I’ve fixed it up. I’ll come by tomorrow to take your measurements.”
Without waiting for Xie Fei fei to refuse, Jiang Yu waved and left, she still had to go home to make clothes.
Making clothes for several people was quite time-consuming.
Xie Fei fei couldn’t help but feel excited about getting a new dress.
After work, she rode her bicycle into Yulin Alley to return the notebook to He Feiyan.
As soon as she entered the courtyard, she saw Lin Hongxia kicking Jiang Ting.
Jiang Ting, who was washing clothes, nearly fell into the basin.
“Can’t you even wash clothes properly? Are we raising you for nothing?”
Jiang Ting looked humiliated, tears streaming down her face, but she didn’t resist.
Xie Fei fei shook her head inwardly, everyone had to bear the consequences of their choices, whether sweet or bitter.
“Feiyan! Is Feiyan home?”
When Xie Fei fei called out, many people looked over, especially Sun’s mother, who glared at her with a murderous look.
If it weren’t for her, Sun Zailiang wouldn’t have had to marry Zhao Qing.
Now, the Zhao family was demanding a bride price of two hundred, and she had initially planned to delay things. To her surprise, the Zhao family threatened to report Sun Zailiang for harassment if they didn’t get it.
She had no choice but to take the loss.
In just a few days, they were going to hold the wedding banquet.
Ignoring her resentment, Xie Fei fei spotted He Feiyan coming out and directly handed over the notebook.
“Here’s your essay, Jiang Yu fixed it for you.”
He Feiyan wasn’t concerned about the essay; she was a bit curious. “Why didn’t Jiang Yu come?”
“She had to go back to make clothes. By the way, I have good news! My cousin agreed to come back for a blind date and will be taking a train from Heisheng Province to Beicheng soon.”
Xie Fei fei said this deliberately, both sides were secretly competing for their brothers’ marriages.
He Feiyan’s heart sank at the news, sensing something ominous.
“What about Jiang Yu? Did she agree?”
Xie Fei fei felt a bit smug. “Of course! My cousin is such a good catch.”
He Feiyan thought this could be a problem, her cousin was getting a head start!
“Fei fei, if Jiang Yu marries your cousin, she’ll have to go to Heisheng Province. She won’t be able to come back for holidays, you wouldn’t want that, would you?”
Xie Fei fei’s smile froze, of course she would mind.
“So I think my brother is a better match for Jiang Yu. They could chat at the supply and marketing cooperative every day. What do you think?” He Feiyan coaxed, linking her arm with Xie Fei fei’s.
Xie Fei fei snorted and pulled her arm away.
“Don’t try to fool me, Jiang Yu and my cousin will definitely hit it off!”
“Who?” Jiang Ting had suddenly appeared behind Xie Fei fei.
Her eyes were red, and her pupils looked like they might pop out.
“Who is Jiang Yu going on a blind date with?” she demanded sharply.
Seeing her angry, Xie Fei fei felt even more pleased.
She lifted her chin proudly. “Jiang Yu is going on a blind date with my cousin, who is a company-level officer. If the date goes well, Jiang Yu can join the military with my cousin and get away from you troublemakers!”
Jiang Ting’s eyes were almost bloodshot from jealousy and unwillingness.
She couldn’t understand why Jiang Yu had such good luck. She lost a Fu Xiangyang and now had a He Tingyue, and now another soldier was on the scene.
How could either of them be worse than Fu Xiangyang?
Jiang Ting gritted her teeth. “Your cousin might not even like her!”
“Maybe not, but my cousin’s family is well-off, both parents have jobs, and he’s an only child. He doesn’t care much about economic conditions, he only values character and looks. It’s hard to find someone as pretty as Jiang Yu in all of Beicheng.”
Xie Fei fei was confident that Huang Zefang would definitely take a liking to Jiang Yu.
After bragging, she left like a proud peacock, as if she were the one going on a blind date.
He Feiyan, however, was worried. It seemed that the emperor was not in a hurry, but the eunuchs were. Unfortunately, she couldn’t pursue He Tingyue on Jiang Yu’s behalf.
Just as she was about to close the door to the south room, Duan Yuzhen walked over.
“Feiyan, I need to talk to you about something.”
He Feiyan replied irritably, “If it’s about my brother, just give up.”
Duan Yuzhen quickly clarified, “No, no! I need your help, it’s not about your brother.”
After being hurt by He Tingyue before, Duan Yuzhen couldn’t easily go back to him.
“What is it?” He Feiyan asked, still annoyed.
Duan Yuzhen said, “I just heard Xie Fei fei mention that you had Jiang Yu revise an essay for you? What essay?”
“Our school just started a newspaper, and I’m trying to submit something,” He Feiyan casually explained.
Duan Yuzhen’s expression brightened. “Our newspaper is looking for articles right now. Can you sell me that essay? I’ll pay for it!”
“Sell it to you?” He Feiyan furrowed her brow. “What do you mean by that? You want to submit it to the newspaper?”
Duan Yuzhen quickly shook her head. “No, no! If I buy it, the essay is mine, and it has to have my name on it.”
She had previously filled in for Jiang Yu on a registration form, and many people at the newspaper knew her pen name was “Xiao Jiang.”
Just then, Xiao Jiang hadn’t submitted anything, so the editor had assigned her a task to submit an article on any topic, preferably a story.
Duan Yuzhen panicked, she had already delayed for two days and couldn’t postpone any longer.
But she didn’t know how to write a story. After two days, she hadn’t even managed a hundred words.
He Feiyan had no idea what Duan Yuzhen was up to and refused outright.
“Can’t you write it yourself? Why do you need to buy my article? This is something I asked Jiang Yu to help me with. I’m not selling it.”
