Chapter 69 : I Have No Other Thoughts

Jiang Yu wasn’t joking when she said she wanted to help Wang Yunshan with her makeup, with the wedding date approaching, she had little time left to buy things.

The next day, she took Jiang Xin with her, planning to take a bus into the city.

Jiang Yonghua thought she was going to see He Tingyue, so he asked Wang Meili to pick some vegetables and fruits from the garden to take along.

These items were hard to come by in the city and could be snatched up easily.

Jiang Yu initially wanted to say that He Tingyue’s family rarely cooked, so there was no need to bring those.

But seeing Wang Meili smiling as she picked them, she swallowed her refusal.

Jiang Hao watched as Wang Meili packed a large bag of vegetables and grimaced.

“Mom, isn’t that too much?”

Wang Meili smacked him, “What do you mean too much? Your husband’s family has three kids!”

Last night, the team leader had specially come to see Jiang Yonghua and revealed He Tingyue’s background.

His son worked at the meat processing plant, not far from the second factory, it didn’t take long to find out.

He Tingyue turned out to be the head of the security department!

That meant he was an official at the National Cotton Factory No. 2, a person so important that even the team leader couldn’t easily approach him!

Wang Meili still remembered how envious the team leader had looked yesterday “Yonghua, Jiang Yu is a good girl, you’ll be living well in the future.”

Just because of those few words, Jiang Yonghua had sternly advised her not to offend Jiang Yu.

Even if it was an act, he had to appear loving.

Given He Tingyue’s attitude towards Jiang Yu, it was clear he cherished her, and marriage was just a matter of time.

Thinking about having a son-in-law who was a department head made Jiang Yonghua feel proud.

As Jiang Yu headed out with her things, she called for Jiang Xin.

They hadn’t gone far when Jiang Li shouted at them.

“Jiang Yu, where are you going?”

She had bribed a few kids in the village to keep an eye on Jiang Yu.

Hearing that Jiang Yu was going into the city, she had dressed in her best floral shirt, braided her hair, and even wore new cloth shoes.

“Li, I’m taking Jiang Xin to the city to buy some things.”

Jiang Li’s eyes squinted in a smile, glancing at the bag in Jiang Yu’s hands.

If it was just for shopping, who would carry so many vegetables? Clearly, she was delivering something!

“I need to go into the city too, let’s go together.”

Entering the city wasn’t exclusively Jiang Yu’s thing, so she didn’t mind sharing.

“Sure, let’s go together.”

As soon as the bus arrived, Jiang Yu pulled Jiang Xin up to squeeze in, securing a good spot.

The two sisters sat together while Jiang Li sat behind them.

But it was inconvenient for her to talk to Jiang Yu from there, she still had many questions to ask.

Since there weren’t many people, she decided to stand next to Jiang Yu to chat.

“Jiang Yu, I heard you have a boyfriend.”

Jiang Yu replied with a simple “Mm,” not wanting to say more.

Jiang Li wasn’t deterred by the silence and continued with her questions.

“What’s your boyfriend’s name? Where does he live? What does he do at the second factory? Is his position high?”

Jiang Yu: “…”

Instead, Jiang Xin looked up at her, “Li, you seem to be conducting a household survey. Why are you so concerned about my brother-in-law? I’ve never seen you care about us like this.”

Her innocent expression made Jiang Yu’s thoughts seem even more suspicious.

Jiang Li quickly looked away, “I don’t have any other intentions! I’m just making small talk.”

Jiang Xin replied, “I didn’t say you had other intentions, why are you so defensive?”

Jiang Li was momentarily taken aback and shot her an annoyed glare.

“Your sister hasn’t said anything, and you’re the only one talking!”

Jiang Xin pouted, “My sister is about to fall asleep, she doesn’t have time to deal with you. Li, aren’t you going back to sit? There’s barely any room left.”

There weren’t many people boarding from Funan Commune, but many would wait along the way, so the bus would stop several times.

Often, by the end, there were no seats left, and everyone was standing close together.

Jiang Li wasn’t willing to leave without an answer.

But seeing Jiang Yu with her eyes closed and breathing evenly, looking like she had really fallen asleep, she reluctantly turned back to her seat.

Just as she turned around, she noticed that her original seat was now occupied by an older woman.

She walked over, visibly displeased. “Auntie, that’s my seat!”

The woman glanced at her, unimpressed. “What a joke. There was no one here when I sat down, how is it suddenly your seat? Why don’t you shout and see if it helps?”

Jiang Li’s eyes widened in disbelief, and she laughed incredulously.

“I left a bag on this seat! I got here first, this seat belongs to me!”

The older woman crossed her arms defiantly. “When I sat down, there was no mention of any bag. And this is a bus, there’s no such thing as reserving seats. Even if you take it to the police station, I’m in the right.”

Jiang Li scoffed coldly, “I did leave a bag! There was ten yuan in that bag! Get up and give it back to me!”

The woman became furious. “What do you mean by that? Are you accusing me of stealing your money? I told you, I didn’t see any bag and certainly didn’t take yours! There’s no rule about bags reserving seats on this bus!”

She prided herself on being a civilized person but was now so enraged by Jiang Li that she felt like cursing.

As the tension escalated, Jiang Li raised her voice even more.

“You took my bag and my money, and you won’t even admit it! If you don’t return my money, we’ll go to the police station!”

As soon as she said that, everyone on the bus turned to look at the older woman.

The woman’s face turned red with anger, especially since Jiang Li was so assertive and made the accusation first, which made others naturally believe her.

The older woman had no way to prove her innocence and could only stammer, “I didn’t take your bag!”

Then someone asked, “Isn’t there a bag under that seat?”

Jiang Li bent down to look, pulled out the bag, and opened it in front of everyone. It was completely empty.

“Where’s my money? Auntie, you not only took my seat but also stole my money! You threw my bag on the ground and acted like you didn’t see it. How can someone be this wicked?”

The woman jumped up, desperately defending herself “I really didn’t see your bag when I sat down! Maybe the money was gone before I even sat down.”

“From the start, it was just me and you sitting here. If you didn’t take it, who else could it be? I don’t care, you must return my money today!”

Not only Jiang Li but even other passengers nearby started chiming in.

“Auntie, you’re sitting in her spot, how can you still take her money?”

“Just give her the money back, it’s just ten yuan. The girl is about to cry.”

“This girl has it hard, you’re an elder, and you’re stealing from her. Have you no shame?”

The older woman clutched her chest, nearly fainting from anger.

Jiang Li sneered, “Auntie, pretending to faint won’t help, you must give me my money!”
