Chapter 542: You’re Mine!

Even though the red kitsune was doing it solo, she did not act like it due to the illusion involved. Ye Wenxin found the picture funny. She lingered a while to watch before heading toward the inn’s lobby.

After a look around, she saw the kitsune had already come downstairs. Her face showed urgency as though searching for something. The moment she spotted Ye Wenxin, she rushed over, sniffing her intently with a fierce expression.

“Did she touch you?” the kitsune asked Ye Wenxin, her eyes wrathful.

Ye Wenxin nodded, feigning confusion. “Yes, Boss Red just said she felt lightheaded and asked me to support her.” The kitsune’s expression turned to disbelief. She sniffed around Ye Wenxin’s neck again and finally, her expression softened.

It was only then the kitsune realized she was paying excessive attention to Ye Wenxin. They might have once been teacher and student, but now, they were strangers.

The kitsune wanted to let go but couldn’t ignore Ye Wenxin’s softness. Unlike with men, there was an indescribable quality about a girl’s touch that made her reluctant to release her grip so quickly.

The innkeeper appeared in a panic. “Is something the matter, Miss Luo?” Startled when he saw Ye Wenxin in the kitsune’s embrace after stepping out, he hurriedly came over to ask the kitsune what happened.

The kitsune shook her head, reluctantly pulling back, “I was just asking her where Boss Red went.”

The innkeeper understood immediately and said with a smile, “Boss Red is probably enjoying herself, so I closed off the backyard.”

The kitsune was shocked. She knew the red kitsune’s personality was different from hers. The red kitsune had a broader range of prey and was comfortable engaging with others in her beast form. However, true to their inherent nature, other kitsune admired the red kitsune’s behavior instead of criticizing it.

In contrast, the kitsune always kept herself pure. She remained untouched even after countless encounters with men. Her close relationship with the Heavenly Book had influenced her to dislike such primal ways of survival. Her principles kept countless demons from pursuing her for her status as the kitsune princess.

“Let Boss Red enjoy herself, then. Put her tab on me.” The innkeeper’s response drew a smirk from the kitsune. It didn’t matter who the red kitsune involved herself with, as long as she did not mess with Ye Wenxin. The kitsune was willing to foot the bill to keep it that way.

The innkeeper’s eyes widened in surprise, barely believing his ears.

Everyone knew the kitsune and the red kitsune had been rivals for the throne for many years. The current situation was already beyond the realm of understanding. But the cunning innkeeper didn’t dare to ask more. He turned to Ye Wenxin and said, “Take good care of Miss Luo.”

Ye Wenxin nodded, but the kitsune waved her hand dismissively. “You can go rest. I’ll come find you if I need anything.”

Ye Wenxin finally enjoyed a moment of peace after the kitsune left. She briefly sat down to rest before slowly tidying up.

About half an hour later, the red kitsune returned looking sated. From her drunken expression, she hadn’t realized everything that happened earlier was just an illusion. She looked content and upon spotting Ye Wenxin, even gave her a few teasing glances as if to boast about her “prowess” just now.

Ye Wenxin managed a faint smile. The red kitsune called for the innkeeper. He rushed out from the kitchen, mustering a face full of smiles when he saw the red kitsune. “Boss Red, how may I assist you?”

“I’m claiming this human. From now on, no one is allowed to eat her!” the red kitsune declared, pointing at Ye Wenxin. She used the term ‘human’ without any qualms.

The innkeeper looked astonished. He couldn’t fathom how this young girl had captured the favor of two powerful demons when she just started working here. He figured she must have amazingly dexterous hands. Smiling broadly, he replied, “As you wish. I will make sure to spread the word. She shall be stationed here from now on, and no one will dare to bother her.”

Once she received the innkeeper’s reassurance, the red kitsune patted Ye Wenxin’s head and added, “Make sure to tell Luo Mo that I’ve claimed her. Now, go settle the bill.”

The innkeeper waved his hands. “Miss Luo has already paid on your behalf.”

The red kitsune’s eyes widened. “What did you say?” She trembled with excitement, even her damaged ears perked up in response.

“Miss Luo has already settled the bill. I’m not sure why,” the innkeeper repeated, not daring to say anything more.

Still incredulous, the red kitsune looked at Ye Wenxin. Remembering the mark she’d left on a specific part of Ye Wenxin’s body, she beamed. “Looks like I’ve won this time… Haha… I’ve finally won for once…”

She laughed with great delight, giving the innkeeper a hearty slap on the shoulder. The innkeeper winced but couldn’t resist or pull away, so he just endured as the red kitsune slapped him a few more times. Finally, she snapped out of her triumphant high and turned her attention to Ye Wenxin quietly standing by the whole time.

“Are you afraid? I am a demon.” The red kitsune regarded her with a tender expression. It seemed illusion Ye Wenxin had conquered her.

Ye Wenxin wasn’t sure how she had appeared in the illusion, but the red kitsune’s daring question made her touch her neck.

She replied awkwardly, “A little.”

The red kitsune was disappointed at this answer. However, she quickly regained her smile, hiding her ears again. “I won’t show my ears if you’re afraid… It’s already late. I’ll come find you again in a few days.”

With a hint of reluctance in her expression, the red kitsune gently rubbed her cheek against Ye Wenxin’s before quickly taking her leave.

“Heavens, how did you manage it, Xiaowen!?” The innkeeper overreacted. He couldn’t comprehend how he had hired someone who could instantly win over the two most difficult vixens in Liu City.

“I did nothing. I don’t even know what they mean.” Ye Wenxin shook her head tiredly. She had only intended to deal with the Heavenly Book. At this rate, however, she’d have to handle these two troublesome kitsune first.

The innkeeper kept rambling. He explained that this was a demon inn and seemed genuinely intent on making Ye Wenxin feel a part of the team. Feigning curiosity, Ye Wenxin asked, “So, what kind of demon are you, innkeeper?”

The innkeeper grinned smugly. “You might fall in love with me if I showed you.”

Ye Wenxin already knew, though. She rolled her eyes at his vanity and turned to leave.

Alarmed, the innkeeper quickly reverted to his original form: a black-and-white boar about two meters long. Sporting black-and-white stripes and long tusks, he looked much more like a wild boar than a regular pig.
