Chapter 544: I Have Few Friends

“I’m fine,” the kitsune declined with a head shake. She didn’t want to trouble Ye Wenxin.

“But I’ll have no way to get down from here if you faint,” Ye Wenxin pointed out, gesturing to the elevation. It was a daunting height for an ordinary person.

The kitsune froze, looked at Ye Wenxin’s small hands, and finally nodded. “Alright, you can help me with the medicine.”

She turned into a black fox again. However, her black fur made her wounds impossible to locate. Ye Wenxin took one look before sighing in frustration. “I can’t see your wounds like this.”

The kitsune was reluctant to shift back. “But… I’d feel embarrassed in that form.”

Ye Wenxin couldn’t help but think this kitsune seemed more human than that woman named Fairy Fengya. She tried to persuade her, “What’s there to be embarrassed about? I wouldn’t.”

The kitsune finally gave in. She returned to her human form—a beautiful woman with dark hair and black eyes. Loosening her robes, she turned most of her back toward Ye Wenxin. The atmosphere fell into a brief lull as Ye Wenxin applied the medicine.

Once her clothing was back in place, the kitsune spoke. “How are you settling here?”

“Very comfortably… but, Miss Luo, are you sure we’ve never met?”

The kitsune’s question had Ye Wenxin’s acting skills kicking in again. A hint of bitterness showed on the kitsune’s face. “I’m sure. Perhaps I just have a common appearance.”

Ye Wenxin felt the kitsune deserved a hit for saying that with such a beautiful face. But she recalled demons had a different sense of aesthetics from humans. Although the kitsune’s true form was gorgeous, it lacked the strength demons typically admired. Her slender figure only evoked beauty.

“Is that so?”

“Yes, but you’re remarkable, Miss Ye. You don’t fear us.” The kitsune smiled, clasping Ye Wenxin’s petite hand as if she couldn’t bear to let go. If not for the self-restraint inherent to kitsune, she wouldn’t have been able to resist showering Ye Wenxin with affectionate licks.

This impulse, however, remained a fleeting thought. The kitsune recalled her impending marriage to the bear demon and intended to abandon such notions.

Her pursuit for the throne, her notion that a male should be her life partner—she couldn’t change what had been ingrained into her mind despite her feelings for Ye Wenxin. So she tried to distance herself, but it was proving impossible. These feelings only grew, and she wanted to give Ye Wenxin licks every day.

The kitsune couldn’t refrain from licking her dry lips. Seeing how defenseless Ye Wenxin was, she wanted to push her down and mount her. These male urges she had developed scared even her.

Ye Wenxin remained oblivious to the kitsune’s inner struggle. She assumed the kitsune was staring at her like she was some delicious treat, so she changed the topic. “Oh, I heard you and Mr. Bear are getting married. I want to congratulate you in advance. May you both have a long and happy life together.”

Ye Wenxin thought the kitsune had finally found a man who wouldn’t succumb to her curse. She was genuinely happy for her. However, she noticed an odd expression on the kitsune’s face, as if she had said something she shouldn’t.

“Me… and him… we’re just…” The kitsune wanted to explain. She didn’t want Ye Wenxin to misunderstand. But when she saw the look in Ye Wenxin’s eyes, she realized she was overcomplicating it.

So, the kitsune sighed. “Forget it. Don’t mention that anymore.”

“Is something troubling you, Miss Luo? I don’t know much but maybe you’ll feel better after talking about it.” Ye Wenxin could tell the kitsune was distressed from her expression. She figured accompanying the kitsune was also part of her job at the inn, so she took on the role of a caring older sister.

The kitsune gave her a strange look but asked, “Do you really want to know?”

Ye Wenxin nodded. Curious about what was troubling the kitsune, her face was full of anticipation.

“Actually, I’ve recently become aware of my feelings for women. Even something as simple as holding hands with Mr. Bear makes me uncomfortable. I’m afraid if we get married in the future, it will end in divorce.” She observed Ye Wenxin’s reaction as she said this.

Ye Wenxin stared blankly at her. She always thought the kitsune had overcome the curse through willpower. She never expected the kitsune’s wavering feelings to be why the curse hadn’t killed the bear demon.

Now, the kitsune had come out so openly to her. A novice in such matters, Ye Wenxin was unsure how to respond to this challenging topic.

“Well, you could try with your friends first to see if you like men or women.” Ye Wenxin thought of Wen Susu. Despite Wen Susu’s disdainful remarks, she could tell they were close. If the kitsune was truly troubled, she could try experimenting. Wen Susu, the Heavenly Book, would be more qualified to resolve her issues.

“But I have few friends,” the kitsune said with a bitter expression. She turned to Ye Wenxin, her look bearing implication. Ye Wenxin felt she might have inadvertently put herself in a tricky position by giving advice.

“You can’t be wanting me to…” Ye Wenxin shook her head in refusal, turning to run away. However, the kitsune was different from the people she knew. Seeing Ye Wenxin trying to escape, her predatory instincts kicked in and she pounced on Ye Wenxin.

Only after doing so did she realize the reflex she had towards Ye Wenxin. As she watched Ye Wenxin pinned beneath her, she became aware they were no longer teacher and student, or anything else. The kitsune’s mind started to wander into a realm of fantasies.

“How about you let me try with you?” The kitsune tried to negotiate. Before Ye Wenxin could shake her head to refuse, the kitsune kissed her.

Even though she had never learned or tried before, she was exceptionally good at stirring Ye Wenxin’s emotions. Ye Wenxin struggled, but passion had taken over the kitsune. Her tails and ears reappeared. She tightly held onto the delicate Ye Wenxin, as if that first kiss had erased all her self-control.

Ye Wenxin was no longer a novice in sensual matters. She couldn’t let herself waver in the face of this relentless attack. She defended herself, and the two began to intertwine in a great battle. One attacked wildly while the other firmly protected her territory.

After nearly five minutes, the kitsune released Ye Wenxin. The infatuation in her eyes made it seem she just tasted the most delicious morsel in the realm. The feeling made her wish she could abandon everything just for more.
