Chapter 101 : Getting the Certificate

The commotion caused by Duan Yuzhen was quite loud, especially with the cries of Wen Yan and Lin Donghua, which drew everyone’s attention.

Jiang Yu naturally heard it and felt a bit helpless, realizing she had unintentionally made things worse.

He Feiyan said, “Don’t take it to heart, Duan Yuzhen is just that kind of person. The whole Duan family is good, but she’s the only one who turned out this way.”

Just by looking at Old Master Duan, you could tell what kind of family values the Duan family had, and it was clear they spoiled Duan Yuzhen.

Jiang Yu forced a smile. “I’m not taking it to heart, I just feel sorry for Sister Lin.”

Duan Yuzhen’s behavior was really like that of an ingrate.

“Feiyan, come in and serve the dishes,” He Tingyue called out.

There were still some garlic sprouts left over from yesterday, perfect for stir-frying with the cured meat.

One thing about He Tingyue’s cooking is that he is generous with oil, which makes his food delicious.

The cured meat was fried until golden and fragrant, making everyone’s mouths water.

The sausage didn’t need cooking, it was simply sliced and placed on the rice.

He Feiyan swallowed hard. “Big Brother, are we having rice today instead of steamed buns?”

Typically, the staple foods at home were steamed buns or noodles, with rice being an occasional treat.

Today was a rare day, they have actually steamed rice.

He Tingyue said, “You can mix it up, stir the sausage into the rice.”

“Gululu.” He Feiyan could hear her own stomach growling.

Once mixed, the rice would be infused with the savory flavor of the sausage, and it would surely be delicious!

“There’s a way to eat sausage in Guangdong called clay pot rice, where the sausage is placed on top of the rice.” He Tingyue hadn’t tried it himself, so it might not be authentic, but it had a similar vibe.

As He Feiyan started preparing, she couldn’t help but salivate.

“Lilan, bring over some bowls!”

“Coming!”

He Lilan quickly fetched a stack of bowls.

He Zhengdong saw this and complained, “Why are there only five bowls?”

He Lilan shot him a look. “Brother, didn’t you say you didn’t want any?”

He Zhengdong pouted, rubbing his stomach. “But I can eat one bowl!”

He Feiyan teased, “Are you sure? You have to finish it, we don’t waste food in our house.”

He Zhengdong hung his head. “Then just give me half a bowl.”

He had already eaten two big peaches, and his stomach was bloated.

But even if he was full, he still wanted to push down that half bowl of rice.

He Feiyan playfully nudged his head, filling half a bowl with rice and adding two pieces of sausage.

Since both the cured meat and sausage were salty, He Tingyue only cut half a piece.

Besides the stir-fried garlic sprouts, there was also a large plate of pork cracklings with cabbage and a plate of spicy-sour shredded potatoes.

Alongside the rice, they also served the steamed buns made that morning.

“Jiang Ye, eat your fill, don’t be polite.”

Jiang Ye looked at the spread and was definitely tempted but hesitated to pick up his chopsticks.

He had only eaten such good food once before, at Jiang Yu’s wedding when he was at Dongke.

He Feiyan noticed his unease and handed him the chopsticks.

“Go on, eat up. There’s plenty for everyone.”

After serving Jiang Ye, He Feiyan was too busy to talk, focusing on the fragrant white rice.

A bite of rice paired with a bite of sausage was simply delicious!

She didn’t even need the other dishes on the table, as long as there was sausage, she was satisfied.

He Lilan preferred the cured meat, which paired perfectly with the garlic sprouts.

He Zhengdong didn’t care what it was; he just stuffed his face.

“This spicy-sour shredded potato is delicious.” Jiang Yu thought she could eat half a plate just of the potatoes.

He Tingyue smiled and added two pieces of cured meat to her plate.

“The cabbage is also good, stir-fried with pork fat.”

The monthly oil quota for side dishes wasn’t enough, so He Tingyue would occasionally buy some lard and fry it at home.

Lard was hard to get, but he had a contact at the meat processing plant who saved some for him.

Jiang Yu felt extremely satisfied after this meal.

She had thought her cooking skills were decent, but compared to He Tingyue’s, they were insignificant.

By the end of the meal, everyone was so full they were burping.

He Feiyan stood up. “Starting today, anyone eating at home will take turns washing the dishes. I’ll wash today, Zhengdong tomorrow, and Lilan the day after. Any objections?”

He Zhengdong immediately raised his hand. “What about Sister-in-law? Why isn’t she washing? She didn’t even cook!”

He Feiyan tapped his head. “Just because she’s Big Brother’s wife! When can you become the eldest brother’s wife? You can also stop washing dishes.”

He Zhengdong silently glanced at the stern-faced He Tingyue, shivering.

Never mind, he would rather wash the dishes!

He Tingyue was cold and stern, a slap from him would hurt and  He doesn’t want to be the eldest brother’s wife.

“Any other objections?”

He Zhengdong and He Lilan chorused, “None!”

“Then it’s settled!” He Feiyan took the cleaned dishes into the kitchen.

Jiang Ye felt awkward just sitting there, so he followed her in.

“Let me wash instead.”

“No, you’re new here, you shouldn’t have to do any work.”

Jiang Yu called out, “Jiang Ye, you can come out. Let Feiyan wash.”

Jiang Ye had no choice but to step back out, feeling uncomfortable in the situation.

“Sis, should I just head back? I still need to find Yunshan.”

Jiang Yu nodded. “That’s fine. Just take the leftover half piece of cured meat to Yunshan.”

After picking so many peaches, it wouldn’t be right not to return the favor.

She looked at He Tingyue for his input.

He Tingyue smiled. “It’s all up to you.”

Jiang Yu packed away two sausages and wrapped up the leftover half piece of cured meat and one sausage.

After Jiang Ye left, Jiang Yu let out a long yawn.

After a full meal, she felt like sleeping, her bones felt all soft.

He Tingyue wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes. “Tired? Want to take a nap?”

Since she had nothing planned for the afternoon, she decided to sleep.

“Do you want to join me?”

He Tingyue’s eyes flickered. “Wife, are you inviting me?”

After last night, Jiang Yu could tell what he was thinking and rolled her eyes.

“Who’s inviting you, you perv!”

He Tingyue laughed as he pushed her into the room, locking the door behind them.

“I won’t tease you, sleep now.”

Jiang Yu lazily covered her mouth and yawned again.

“Remember to call me.”

They still needed to go get their marriage certificate later, if they were late, the office would be closed.

“Okay, sleep tight.” He Tingyue tucked her in.

Seeing her sleep so peacefully, he couldn’t help but join her, wrapping his arms around her for a nap.

He had a wedding leave from work, and although he technically didn’t need to go in today, he had a few things to take care of in the morning.

The afternoon was off as usual, and he would be off until they returned from the wedding visit.

All three younger siblings had gone to school, leaving this brother and sister-in-law pair feeling leisurely, they didn’t wake up until three o’clock.

Today was the day they were getting their marriage certificate, and Jiang Yu wanted to treat it as a special occasion.

She put on a floral shirt, carefully braided her hair, and tied a scarf at the end.

“Looks good,” He Tingyue said, not taking his eyes off her. “After we get the certificate, let’s go take a photo together.”

“A photo? Us?” Jiang Yu was surprised.

She had lived for twenty years and had never taken a photo before.

He Tingyue smiled, “Yes, just our wedding photo. We’ll take one every year and make an album so that when we’re old, we can look back at them.”
