Chapter 106 : Both are Widowers

Jiang Yu’s return visit today was no secret, many people were waiting for her.

This was largely due to Jiang Yonghua and Wang Meili promoting it widely after they returned to the village from the wedding banquet.

Just the fact that Jiang Yu left in a car was enough to make her boast for three days and nights.

The people of Nanghe Village envied her, as being able to borrow a car for the wedding clearly indicated that He Tingyue was no ordinary man.

It seemed that the old Jiang family was on the rise.

On the day of the visit, Jiang Yu’s uncles and aunts were already waiting at home, and even some relatives from Wang Meili’s side had come.

When Jiang Yu arrived, the house was packed with people.

“Jiang Yu, you’re finally back! Your cousin has been talking about you since early this morning!” her second aunt said with a warm smile, reaching out to take Jiang Yu’s hand.

Jiang Yu subtly avoided her grip. “Second Aunt, you’re joking. My cousin and I have never really played together since we were little. Why would she be talking about me?”

Her second aunt shot a glare at Wang Moli, who was as stiff as a wooden doll and didn’t know how to ingratiate herself.

Wang Moli felt somewhat unhappy, she had never been the one to flatter Jiang Yu, and it was quite a turn of events.

But to marry a good man, she had to swallow her pride.

Without giving Jiang Yu time to respond, she grabbed her hand tightly.

“Jiang Yu, remember when we used to play with dolls? Why are you being so distant?”

Jiang Yu looked at her with a hint of mockery in her eyes.

“Are you talking about the doll you deliberately threw into the latrine, making me fetch it? When I refused, you complained to my mom, saying I threw your doll into the latrine, which got me punished by her.”

She tilted her head. “Is that what you’re referring to?”

The atmosphere in the room became noticeably tense, like a roaring fire suddenly doused with cold water.

Wang Moli forced a smile, glaring at Jiang Yu.

“Your cousin was just joking, you little grudge-holder.”

Jiang Yu smiled but said nothing, she remembered all the similar incidents clearly.

He Tingyue handed over the brown sugar and a pound of pork to Wang Meili.

Wang Meili was overjoyed; after all, Jiang Ting had come back empty-handed last time.

“Xiao He, really, bringing things on your return visit? Next time, you shouldn’t!” she said playfully.

Though she said this, if he came empty-handed, she would surely wear a black face.

Jiang Yu glanced around and didn’t see Jiang Ye.

“Where’s Jiang Ye?”

“He went out. He’s hardly home these days, he has such a wild temperament,” Wang Meili said, clearly dissatisfied with Jiang Ye.

With Jiang Hao around, she couldn’t help but compare.

Jiang Ye was like a gourd with a sawed-off mouth, he couldn’t charm people like Jiang Hao, which naturally tilted her heart.

Thinking of Jiang Hao made Wang Meili feel a pang of sadness.

“Jiang Yu, you need to check on your brother later, he broke his leg. The doctor said he needs to take it easy for a while, he’s still lying in bed.”

Jiang Yu raised her eyebrows, finally hearing some good news.

“What’s there to see? He brought this on himself. You should tell him to stop offending people, and then he wouldn’t be in this situation.”

Wang Meili sighed, “But he’s your brother! How can you be so cruel?”

Jiang Yonghua interjected, “Child’s mother, why are you just chatting? Quickly make some sweet water for Xiao He and Jiang Yu! They’ve traveled so far, they must be thirsty.”

Wang Meili slapped her forehead. “Look at me, I completely forgot! I still need to go to the fields to pick some vegetables and cook that pork for lunch.”

As she went to prepare the sweet water, Jiang Yu was sipping her drink when her second aunt pulled Wang Moli over.

“Jiang Yu, I heard the National Cotton Mill is a huge factory with many talented young people, right?”

Jiang Yu nodded. “There are indeed many, but there are more female workers, there aren’t many men.”

The National Cotton Mill and textile factory were notoriously known as “the women’s kingdom.”

Her second aunt grew anxious. “Even if there are fewer, there must be some unmarried men, right?”

“There are! We have some in our compound.”

Her second aunt was overjoyed and quickly grasped Jiang Yu’s hand.

“Jiang Yu, can you introduce someone to me? If Moli could marry into your compound, you two sisters would be able to support each other!”

Wang Moli looked bashful. “I don’t have high standards.”

Ideally, someone like He Tingyue.

Jiang Yu replied, “They’re both widowers.”

Her second aunt and Wang Moli froze.

“Widowed? They must have kids, right?”

If they didn’t have kids, it could be considered.

Jiang Yu clarified, “One has kids, one doesn’t.”

Her second aunt’s hopes reignited, rising and falling with Jiang Yu’s words.

“Tell me about the one without kids.”

“Alright, he’s probably a bit older than my dad and works as a cook in the cafeteria of Factory Two.”

Wang Moli was furious. “He could be my dad! Jiang Yu, you’re not being sincere!”

Jiang Yu put on a serious face. “Cousin, what are you saying? Didn’t you ask for an introduction? If you don’t want it, then don’t.”

Her second aunt quickly intervened. “That’s too old, it’s not your fault, it’s what I wanted to ask. Is there anyone younger?”

Jiang Yu replied, “There is, the one with the kids is a bit younger.”

Her second aunt shook her head. “Your cousin can’t go be a stepmother, that’s not appropriate.”

“Oh, then there’s no one else. How about your cousin share her requirements? I’ll see what I can do.”

Wang Moli’s expression softened a bit, this was more acceptable.

“Not too old, preferably under 30. As long as he’s decent-looking, I don’t have high standards. It’s best if he doesn’t live with his parents. I tend to clash with in-laws. Also, no younger siblings, I don’t want to raise someone else’s kids. His salary shouldn’t be too low, preferably matching my brother-in-law’s.”

This high-level discussion successfully made Jiang Yu laugh.

“Cousin, if you want a salary like my husband’s, he needs to be at least at the department head level. How many men at his age can hold such a position? He earned that with his military achievements, you think it’s easy to find?”

Wang Moli bit her lip. “Whoever I marry can’t be worse than your man!”

Jiang Yu spread her hands. “Then you’ll have to find someone on your own. I can’t help you, ask your mother to find a matchmaker.”

Wang Moli snorted. “If I find someone myself,I don’t believe I’m worse than you! Mom, let’s not beg her, I’ll find someone better and make sure you get to ride in a car too!”

Her second aunt was both amused and exasperated. It wasn’t easy to ride in a car.

But none of the people Jiang Yu mentioned could satisfy her, it might be better to find a matchmaker.

“Alright then, let’s drop this. Jiang Yu, since your husband has such a high rank, could you ask if he could help your cousin find a job? Even a temporary position would be fine!”

Her second aunt really didn’t see herself as an outsider, making one request after another, even more boundary-less than Wang Meili.

Jiang Yu smiled coldly, countering, “Second Aunt, I don’t even have a job yet.  If my husband can arrange a job, he will definitely give it to me first. How can he arrange it for my cousin?”

Her second aunt complained, “A woman should just take care of her home, what do you need a job for?”
