The Female Supporting Character Who Accompanied The Main Character Through Poverty Has Awakened: Chapter 29-3

{Guys, is this for your kids? 3}

“What do you mean?”

“Who else would she be here to see if not me?” Zhao Buhui stood beside Qian Xu, deliberately giving his employee the impression that she might be the boss’s lady. “Isn’t it obvious that I’m the most handsome person here?”

“Boss,” the employee sighed heavily.

She almost forgot the minor issue at hand until Qian Xu reminded her, “Zhao Buhui, the light on the floor below is broken.”

The employee naturally wanted to mention to Boss Zhao that she would call an electrician the next day.

“Alright, I’ll change the bulb myself.”

True to her quick wit from working around Zhao Buhui for over half a year, the employee replied, “Miss Qian, don’t underestimate our boss. He personally handles things like changing light bulbs.”

She emphasized “personally” as if it were some grand achievement.

“Isn’t that just normal?”

Qian Xu’s family ran a hardware store at the crossroads in her hometown, so she’d been around hardware her entire life. She usually changed her own light bulbs and didn’t think anything of it.

“Mind your business,” Zhao Buhui scolded his loyal employee. “Changing light bulbs is just one of my many skills.”

It was all bragging until he actually grabbed a stool and faced the shaky light bulb on the first floor. Truthfully, he felt a little nervous; he hadn’t dealt with this kind of problem since returning to the country.

Unexpectedly, the crowd from the private room—the ones who should have been drinking and feasting without ever coming out—suddenly gathered around.

Someone handed him a screwdriver, another gave him a pair of pliers, but none of these were what he actually needed.

He felt the pressure of all the gazes on his back, and the attention weighed on him, causing him to fail at changing the bulb twice in a row.

Finally, embarrassed, he said, “Forget it. It’s too dark to see properly. The wiring might be loose. I’ll have an electrician fix it tomorrow.”

Qian Xu, unable to watch any longer, offered, “Let me do it.”

Seeing he was reluctant to give up the stool, she directed him, “Just stand down and hold your phone light for me.”

Everyone was stunned.

While changing a light bulb was a difficult task for Zhao Buhui, for Qian Xu, it was an easy mode. With just a couple of twists, the lightbulb was shining brightly. Someone in the crowd joked, “Brother Zhao, did you make this lady come here just to fix the lights for you?”

Everyone burst out laughing.

Zhao Buhui turned to them and said, “She can do it because she’s amazing. That doesn’t mean any of you could, got it?”

Qian Xu assumed she might have wounded his male pride by doing something he couldn’t. But with Zhao Buhui, you’d never know he felt that way. If anything, he seemed eager to announce to the world just how capable she was.

“Not at all,” Qian Xu responded, feeling a bit embarrassed by the praise and eager to leave. “Weren’t we going to go for a walk?”

She politely bid everyone farewell, but Zhao Buhui, even more eager to head out, quickly followed.

Passing by a deli, Qian Xu naturally picked a bit of each meat dish, just enough to celebrate. “I don’t know how you wealthy people celebrate birthdays, but back home, we’d usually buy a few prepared dishes and light some candles on a birthday cake…”

As she described it, he listened intently, savoring every word.

The deli owner quickly sliced up beef shank, beef tongue, pork, and tripe for them, but still, Zhao Buhui made no move to help.

“Aren’t you going to carry these?”

It was a cold day, and leaving the lady who paid to carry everything wasn’t very gentlemanly.
