After finishing his work from five in the morning to eleven at night, Luo Yu stumbled out of the history department research room into the muggy night air, unable to control his yawns. He decided to buy a mask at the supermarket, and on a whim, he also picked up a bottle of red wine as a prop for his livestream.
A group of students rode by on their bikes, squealing with excitement as they headed to the night market, making him feel very out of place in his exhausted state.
When he returned to the A1 building lobby of his community, it was just in time for the distribution of sleep medication.
It was still early, and not many people had shown up to collect their meds, so Luo Yu quickly got in line. He handed his cup to the woman sitting by the window dispensing the medication.
Noticing the volunteer armband on her arm, he smiled sweetly, trying to be charming:
“Hey, sister, you just got off work and are already here to hand out medication? You’re working too hard!”
The woman waved her hand in a pleased manner, saying, “Serving everyone!” She then handed him a full cup of hot water along with a white pill.
Luo Yu skillfully hid the pill under his tongue and took a sip of water, mumbling, “Goodbye, sister!” before quickly heading to the elevator.
The elevator was crowded, and he was afraid of being caught, so he kept the pill tucked on the tip of his tongue.
Luo Yu wasn’t worried about the sleep medication melting since he had sleeping pills; their potency would overpower the effects of the wakefulness drug.
Once inside his apartment, he spat out the small portion of the melted pill into the sink.
Suddenly, there was a loud “bang, bang, bang” at the door!
A wave of panic surged through him, making Luo Yu feel as if he’d been electrocuted!
He quickly swallowed the remnants of the pill, tiptoed to the door, and looked through the peephole. There stood a young woman who looked to be in her early twenties, with a high ponytail and dressed in a black dress, holding a bunch of grapes.
He didn’t open the door or make a sound.
“Hey there, I’m your neighbor from across the hall!” The woman seemed to see through his hesitation and spoke up. “I noticed you moved in today, so I brought you some homegrown grapes. Now that we’re neighbors, we’ll have plenty of chances to help each other out!”
Luo Yu relaxed and opened the door with a polite smile. “What should I call you?”
“My name is Wen Shu, but you can just call me Little Shu.” She handed him the grapes. “These grapes are pesticide-free and all-natural, so remember to keep them in the fridge.”
“Thank you, Little Shu,” Luo Yu said softly, expressing his gratitude. “I just moved in, and I don’t have much to offer you. But I’ll invite you to dinner another time!”
“Don’t be so polite!” Wen Shu smiled brightly as she turned and entered her apartment in 1301 across the hall.
Luo Yu let out a sigh of relief and went back inside, brushing off the brief encounter.
There were still twenty minutes until his second livestream started.
The previous tenant had left some daily necessities, which were stored in a box in the corner of the living room.
Luo Yu found two folding metal stands. He installed one on the glass door facing the bathtub in the bathroom and opened the bathtub drain. The other he set up over the bedside table in the bedroom.
Next, he poured the wine he had bought into a glass bowl and placed it in the microwave to heat.
With ten minutes left, he poured the hot red wine into a goblet, set it on a round stool beside the bathtub, and grabbed a poetry book he had brought back from the research room, placing it next to the goblet.
In the last five minutes, he quickly washed up outside the tub. Once the bathtub was filled, he changed into a clean white shirt and carefully sat down in the warm water.
Everything was ready.
Luo Yu raised his hand and clicked “Start Livestream.”
The “Xingyao” platform only provided a homepage recommendation slot for first-time university student streamers. Since he was streaming today, he wouldn’t have such good exposure resources again.
Fortunately, he had set up a fan group yesterday and easily shared the livestream link there.
In the high-level fan group, users were sorted by the amount of gifts they had given.
His biggest sponsor, S, ranked first, with a golden border around their profile picture.
Luo Yu didn’t hesitate; feeling service-oriented, he sent a private message to “S.”
— Meanwhile.
Behind a secluded lake in City A, inside a heavily guarded red house.
The International Human Advancement Federation’s mid-year work summary meeting was about to begin.
This summary conference would last three days and nights in a row. According to the president, Song Lingyuan, all attendees were required to lock their personal phones in a cabinet to improve meeting efficiency.
In the storage room, a participant had just locked away their phone and turned to see two colleagues peeking into their storage lockers, snickering:
“What are you two dawdling for? Flirting at the speed of life and death?”
“I just had a fight with my wife before coming! If I don’t coax her in three days, I won’t have a wife anymore!”
“It’s not even a confidential meeting. Why do we have to lock our phones for three days? It’s absurd…”
The man shrugged. “You’d have to ask our President Song about that…”
With a loud “bang,” the storage room door was pushed open from the outside.
A tall man in a formal suit walked into the room, his cold blue eyes scanning the area.
“Does it really take this long to put away a phone?”
The members of the federation who were still stalling quickly closed their lockers with a “snap, snap.” “President.” “Hello, President.” “It’s all locked up!”
Only then did Song Lingyuan nod slightly, retract his gaze, pull out his phone, and toss it effortlessly into his designated storage locker with a graceful arc, intending to casually close the metal door.
“Ding—”
Suddenly, the phone at the bottom of the locker emitted a clear notification sound.
The storage room fell into an eerie silence.
Song Lingyuan glanced at the phone screen, his finger hovering over the locker door for a moment.
“Important work message.”
He picked up his phone and turned to look at the people in the storage room, whose expressions were inscrutable. Realizing he was explaining himself to them, he felt irritated and snapped:
“What are you doing still hanging around here instead of going to the conference room?”
Everyone:…
They quickly formed a line and jogged out.
The storage room was left with only Song Lingyuan.
He touched the notification, and the phone screen switched to the “Xingyao” platform.
@History-Sleep-Luo Yu: “Brother, I’m going live tonight!”
@History-Sleep-Luo Yu: “It should be really fun today!”
He also sent a link to the livestream.
Song Lingyuan lowered his gaze at the livestream cover, which was the thumbnail of the ongoing stream.
The little streamer was lounging in a filled bathtub, his clothes soaked, face flushed, and his eyes sparkling as he looked at the camera.
To showcase something so intimate as bathing in a livestream? Song Lingyuan’s displeasure immediately manifested in his tightly furrowed brows, just as his finger landed on the thumbnail.
Suddenly, the door of the storage room was pushed open again, and someone greeted him loudly, “President, are you also putting away your phone?”
Song Lingyuan almost quickly turned off the screen, but his hand slipped, and the phone fell deep into the storage cabinet.
He took a deep breath and forcefully closed the metal door, saying, “Mm.”
…
In the bathroom, Luo Yu waited for a few seconds, but S did not reply.
It was normal for a big spender to be busy; if they weren’t making money, how could they afford to send gifts?
Luo Yu didn’t think much of it and quickly switched back to the live stream, discovering that several hundred people had already entered.
【Ahhh, why is my wife playing with wetness and temptation? I couldn’t take it as soon as I came in!】
【Honey, your bathtub is so big; can I join too?】
The live stream image just happened to show the water’s surface, and Luo Yu’s shirt was already soaked, clinging to the exposed part of his collarbone, partially revealing it.
Seeing the comments, he shifted a bit to the side of the bathtub:
“Don’t be shy; let’s all soak together.”
【Here I come, hubby! Splash!】
【Why are you still wearing clothes while taking a bath?! Is there anything we can’t see as your high-level fans?】
Luo Yu leaned on the edge of the bathtub and smiled lightly at the camera:
“If I didn’t wear clothes, do you think the moderator responsible for banning the live stream wouldn’t come first?!”
【Is today’s performance about sleeping in the bathtub? Baby, be careful not to drown!】
“You really don’t understand sleeping…” Luo Yu couldn’t help but laugh, “It’s too hard to sleep here. I take a bath because I usually sleep better after bathing!”
Luo Yu slid down the bathtub a bit, submerging himself in the water, and drew a circle in the air with a finger:
“Everyone guess, in the past, if people wanted to sleep better, what would they do?”
【I watched a documentary before that said doing some love-making exercises in bed has the great benefit of helping people sleep better, hehe.】
【Please share the documentary resources, thanks!】
【I can’t share the name; the platform says I violated rules.】
【Hahaha, then don’t say it; I’m afraid my wife’s live stream will get banned.】
【Her little face is turning yellow; I can’t imagine what my husband is going to teach us today.】
“…Looks like the youth of this era aren’t completely clueless about sleeping!”
Luo Yu’s mouth twitched: “What are you thinking! What the host wants to ask is what sleeping aids single dogs can use! How can one sleep better alone!”
【Why can’t single dogs have some love-making exercises too?】
【Host baby wouldn’t know that one can actually do it alone, right?】
【Don’t lead my wife astray!】
【Host, I’ll private message you…】
Sitting in the rippling water, the steam was already reddening his cheeks, and after seeing the vulgar comments, his face turned even more flushed.
He clung to the edge of the bathtub, pouting pitifully like a drowning puppy:
“Everyone stop spamming and don’t private message me; the moderator will catch me.”
The netizens were quite amused and began to comfort him.
Luo Yu chuckled softly, and then he got to the point:
“Enough messing around; the sleep blogger is officially starting class. For the new babies who just joined, today the host will talk about how humans used to help themselves sleep before sleep aids disappeared.”
“To sleep sweetly, the first step is to relax the body and empty the mind.”
“Taking a hot bath like the host, isn’t it very relaxing? But the water temperature can’t be too hot or too cold, or else the body will become even more excited, and you might not be able to sleep at all.”
Luo Yu smiled and closed his eyes, leaning against the bathtub wall, slowly exhaling hot air.
Water droplets rolled from the tips of his hair down to his fair neck, then rolled down and disappeared into the open collar of his shirt.
It was all very clear in the live stream’s camera.
【Hiss! Hiss!】
【Why does it feel even sexier to wear clothes than not to wear them?】
When Luo Yu opened his eyes and saw this comment, he coughed and quickly buttoned the top of his wet shirt:
“At times like this, if we can play some soothing music, it would help with relaxation even more.”
Luo Yu activated the smart assistant on the left wall of the bathtub and played an elegant classical piano piece.
【Elegant, so elegant!】
【Although we don’t need to sleep now, doing these things is actually very beneficial for mental health.】
【Yeah, yeah, watching the host take a bath makes all the stress of a day’s work disappear!】
Luo Yu glanced at the comments and suddenly realized that while sleeping pills might relieve the physiological dependence on sleep, they couldn’t alleviate the psychological issues caused by long hours of work.
…But that’s the problem the International Human Progress Association needs to solve!
【Host, what’s the wine for?】
Luo Yu came back to his senses and smoothly changed the topic: “The wine, according to our research data, many people used to rely on drinking to help them sleep; getting drunk would make them fall asleep.”
Luo Yu lifted the wine glass with the tinkling piano sound, gently took a sip, and then looked at the camera with a smile in his eyes:
“But this is actually not good! Even if you fall asleep, it’s very difficult to enter deep sleep, and the next day you wake up feeling as tired as if you hadn’t slept at all!”
Luo Yu set down the wine glass, wiped his hands on a towel nearby, and picked up a poetry book:
“Instead of drinking, it’s better to read a book before bed, forgetting all the worries of the day, which makes it easier to fall asleep.”
【My wife looks so beautiful sitting in the water soaked, reading; I could watch her all day!】
“Alright, then I’ll let you watch a bit longer.”
Luo Yu leaned back in the bathtub, quietly flipping through a few modern poems from this world, before placing the book back on the round stool.
“The bath time is over; the host is moving to another location to continue the live stream, so behave and face the wall, babies.”
Saying that, Luo Yu ignored the opposition in the comments and pointed the camera toward the wall.
He stepped through the water, got out of the bathtub, tossed his wet shirt aside with a “whoosh,” grabbed a light-colored bath towel to wrap around his body, casually dried his hair, and then changed into a new pure cotton white shirt and a pair of white shorts that didn’t reach his knees.
After all, the live stream couldn’t see what he was wearing on his lower half!
【Why can’t I see my wife changing clothes behind the phone?】
【Even though I can’t see it, my imagination is running wild…】
【Husband, you’re too much of a gentleman; you really won’t show anything at all!】
The comments were clamoring until suddenly a delicate and radiant face appeared in front of the camera.
Her eyes, heated and brightened, looked even more luminous, and her soft, rosy lips parted slightly:
“Are you all waiting eagerly?”
The beauty filter struck hard!
The netizens were falling over themselves.
【No, no】
【Waiting for my wife is what I should do.】
“Good boy, then the host will take everyone to see the bedroom!”
Luo Yu held the phone, smiling sweetly, walking through the bright corridor into the bedroom, where only a dim yellow lamp was on:
“Complete darkness is better for sleep! But to let my babies see my face clearly, I won’t turn off all the lights.”
【Is the host renting a place off-campus?】
“Yes, to provide a better live-streaming experience for everyone, I specifically rented a place with a larger space.”
【So touching! Does that mean you can live stream bathing every day, hehe?】
Luo Yu didn’t look at the comments; he was focused on propping the phone up on the side table in the bedroom and then sitting down at the table.
The camera was directed at his face, so at that moment, no one noticed the bed in the bedroom.
Luo Yu pulled out an orange scented candle from the drawer of the side table and opened it to place it on the table.
A faint sweet orange scent filled the air, and he brought the candle to the camera to show it off:
“It’s a sleep candle with an orange scent; it smells like freshly picked oranges, sweet and fragrant. It’s said to be great for helping sleep!”
【Is the host planning to sell products now?】
Luo Yu raised an eyebrow: “Sell what! These are all limited edition antiques; the host uses them for personal use only.” Saying that, he opened a sleep mask and applied a thin layer of transparent gel to his face.
【Can an antique mask still be used??】
Luo Yu chuckled: “Good question; let the host try it out!”
【Where does the host find all these antiques?】
“The host is a history major; isn’t it normal for history majors to dig up some antiques?” Luo Yu casually responded, “Welcome everyone to apply for A University’s history department! We’ll have the opportunity to take a fake nap together!”
【Got it! The sleep process: listen to music, take a bath, read a book, light a sleep candle, then do some love-making exercises, and finally sleep beautifully!】
【Could it be that you are a genius?!】
【First place for stacking buffs!】
【Then now it’s just missing…】
Luo Yu said earnestly: “Just missing the host getting banned by the moderator.”
【Hahahaha】 The comments burst into laughter.
Luo Yu said: “Single dogs can jump straight to the last step, sleeping beautifully. If you don’t sleep, all those previous steps are meaningless!”
【Sleeping again?】
【This host is quite interesting, but the whole sleeping performance is really unnecessary.】
【Isn’t this going to lose a lot of viewers?】
【I just want to chat with my wife; can she not sleep next time?】
Luo Yu rested his hands on his face, as if he didn’t see the comments:
“Today is also a simulation of deep sleep for 90 minutes. Babies who don’t love watching can leave the live stream for now and come back in 90 minutes. We won’t see each other again!”
While Luo Yu was talking, he sat at the table, and the audience thought that he would once again lay his head on the table to sleep.
They all exited the live stream.
The number of people in the live stream dropped from four digits to three digits within a few minutes.
Then it dropped to two digits.
Luo Yu watched helplessly as his live stream’s popularity ranking slid from third place in the college student category down to the very last place in the entire channel, with only two digits left.
The fewer people, the safer he felt. He let out a big sigh of relief and turned to walk toward the big bed.
He didn’t expect that just a few minutes later, the audience count would suddenly explode, multiplying rapidly!
