Chapter 3: Qin Lang Knows Her Thoughts
Suddenly, the next day, Professor Song was still the same as before, and Lin You had no idea that Professor Song already knew her thoughts.
Afterward, Professor Song bought several outfits, jewelry, and shoes for Lin You. Lin You’s daily attire and grooming were all chosen by her, and even Lin You’s intimate clothing, she would personally buy.
Every time Lin You said she was going shopping, she would reply:
“Of course you can buy it yourself, but I can’t help myself every time I see it. And you’re so young and beautiful now, you should wear whatever you like. I want to wear clothes like that too, but with my age and figure, it just doesn’t work anymore.”
So when she took everything out to show Lin You, Lin You didn’t find it strange because this was her usual style.
Professor Song’s family background traces back to early New China’s entrepreneurs. After decades of hard work, they were quite well off, so she never looked at the price or quantity when shopping.
About a week after Qin Lang left, his father, Qin Ninghai, returned.
Qin Ninghai had a personality similar to Qin Lang’s, both had spent a long time in the army and were taciturn yet commanding.
The only difference was that Qin Ninghai was very obedient to his wife, Professor Song. Although they spent little time together, they were very affectionate. Every time Qin Ninghai took a leave at home, Lin You and Professor Song would act as if they were hands off managers because he would take care of everything.
Sometimes, Lin You thought that part of the reason she agreed to marry Qin Lang was because of Qin Lang’s father. She felt that after marriage, Qin Lang would be considerate and gentle like his father. However, the reality was otherwise.
On the day Qin Ninghai returned, as soon as they entered the house, the aroma of food filled the air. Before Lin You could react, Professor Song hurried to the kitchen, shouting, “Old Qin, are you back?”
Soon, a deep male voice came from the kitchen “Yes, dear, I’m back.”
Then he quickly caught the excited Professor Song, and the two embraced warmly.
Lin You stood at the door, feeling awkward and not knowing where to look. Soon, they came out, and Lin You took the initiative to greet him “Dad, you’re back.”
Qin Ninghai looked at Lin You, who was becoming more beautiful and graceful, and was quite satisfied. He looked at her lovingly “Yoyo, off work? Is everything okay at work? Have you been wronged?”
Before Lin You could answer, Professor Song said, “Don’t worry, dear. With me around, who would dare to bully our daughter in law? Besides, Yoyo works very hard and is doing great.”
Qin Ninghai looked at his wife with smiling eyes and reminded her: “But don’t be too biased, we still need to be low key.”
Professor Song pulled Lin You, who was standing by, towards the bathroom, preparing to wash her hands before dinner, muttering to Qin Ninghai “I know, just like your unsavory son, every time he comes back, it’s always this line. We are already low key enough.”
Qin Ninghai shook his head helplessly and went into the kitchen to serve the dishes.
During dinner, Professor Song glanced at Lin You, who was eating, and asked, “How’s our son? Did he return to the base smoothly? Their work is so classified, it’s really hard to contact him usually.”
Lin You paused her eating but couldn’t escape the observant gazes of the two in front of her.
“He’s back.” Glancing at Lin You, he said meaningfully, “Because of leaving the team without permission, the captain gave him a week of physical punishment.”
Professor Song sighed, “He really deserves it, how can he be so undisciplined?”
Lin You, however, said nothing, thinking to herself that it didn’t matter if he was punished or not, he was only fulfilling his animal instincts, and she felt no sympathy for him.
The couple looked at Lin You’s reaction in confusion and exchanged glances, deciding not to mention Qin Lang anymore.
Afterward, Qin Ninghai took a sip of water to clear his throat, as if he were about to speak “Wife, You You, can I tell you some good news?”
The two looked up expectantly at him, and Qin Ninghai was quite pleased with their reactions “After the holiday ends, I’ll be transferred back to City C, so I will have a few days at home every month from now on.”
Professor Song immediately became happy, and Lin You looked at her joyful expression, feeling happy for her. However, when she thought of herself, she immediately lowered her gaze, and the two opposite her still noticed Lin You’s disappointment amid their excitement.
Qin Ninghai quickly looked at Professor Song. She understood and carefully squeezed Qin Ninghai’s hand, signaling him to wait and tell him later.
After dinner, Lin You returned to her room, leaving space for the long separated couple.
Qin Ninghai anxiously asked Professor Song, “Yoyo, why do I feel like she has something on her mind? What happened between her and Qin Lang? She doesn’t seem to care or be concerned about him at all.”
Professor Song sighed and sat on the sofa like a deflated balloon “Yoyo wants a divorce, her future with Qin Lang is uncertain.”
Qin Ninghai didn’t understand this at all. In his view, they were quite a match, and he spoke up directly “Why?”
Professor Song sat up straight and said, “I don’t know, I just saw it accidentally, and I’m guessing.” She then told Qin Ninghai what she had seen.
After listening, Qin Ninghai frowned, looking unhappy and unsure of what to do.
“I haven’t asked Yoyo yet, thinking you would be back soon to discuss it together before making a decision,” Professor Song continued.
“They haven’t spent enough time together since they got married, and Yoyo is already starting to resist this marriage.” Qin Ninghai analyzed rationally.
“Yes, we need to think of a way quickly. If one day Yoyo tells us she wants a divorce, what will we say then? Both sides are important to us,” Professor Song began to analyze the future situation.
Qin Ninghai stood up and paced the room with his hands behind his back. Suddenly, as if recalling something, he looked at Professor Song and asked, “Isn’t Yoyo about to graduate with her doctorate soon?”
Professor Song didn’t understand the reason behind his question, but she nodded.
“Let Yoyo work at the hospital in the city where Qin Lang is stationed after she graduates,” Qin Ninghai stated his plan.
However, Professor Song immediately opposed “No, they will only be able to meet during holidays, which is not much different from now. It would only mean they could see each other on weekends, and I won’t be there beside Yoyo. What if she falls for someone else? She has always had many admirers.”
After hearing this, Qin Ninghai felt it made sense, squatting down helplessly beside Professor Song.
“I’ve long considered Yoyo as my daughter, I can’t bear to let her leave our family. When she married Qin Lang, I felt it was a pity. If it weren’t for my own son, I wouldn’t have agreed back then. Although Yoyo is strong and brave, she needs Qin Lang’s company,” Professor Song spoke again, voicing Lin You’s grievances from these years.
Qin Ninghai patted Professor Song on the shoulder and expressed his thoughts “Tell Qin Lang about this, if he cares about Yoyo, he’ll have a plan. If not, then we need to support her decision.”
Professor Song nodded sadly, looking despondent at Qin Ninghai “Qin Lang has always cared for Yoyo, otherwise, why would he have rushed back last time? It’s just that Yoyo… Yoyo is delicate, and Qin Lang is very responsible. If they can be together day and night, they will surely fall in love with each other.”
Qin Ninghai looked at his wife and voiced his doubts over the years “Why haven’t they had children all these years? If they had a child, this wouldn’t be the case. We also spent little time together, but Qin Lang was born a year after our marriage. What’s their situation?”
“Qin Lang always said that Yoyo hasn’t graduated yet, so there’s no rush,” Professor Song answered Qin Ninghai’s concerns.
At that moment, far away at the station, Qin Lang sat in a chair with his arms crossed over his chest, his lips pressed tight, glaring at the computer on the table with an annoyed expression.
There was a knock at the door, and he stood up, walking towards it.
Li Yang stood outside, and upon seeing Qin Lang, immediately saluted him with a standard military greeting and cautiously asked, “Captain, is the assembly complete? Are we heading out now?”
Qin Lang lifted his eyelids, staring directly at Li Yang with an expression of displeasure. He thought to himself, how could Li Yang, who has been following him for so long, still need to ask this? Doesn’t he know his decision?
Not receiving a response from Qin Lang, Li Yang hesitated and spoke again: “Captain, it’s almost dinner time now. If we go to the shooting range, it will be dark by the time we arrive, and visibility will be poor.”
Qin Lang’s lips curled slightly into a contemptuous smile as he loudly questioned, “Do you think that when war comes, the
enemy will kindly wait for you to eat? If you are afraid of darkness, then don’t come! It’s enough for me alone!”
Li Yang’s face froze, unable to say anything, but inwardly he cursed “It’s only one time, but why must you be so harsh?”
As Qin Lang adjusted his collar and took out his military cap, he spoke loudly “Move quickly!”
Li Yang nodded and quickly retreated.
Qin Lang took one last look at the computer screen, which displayed the video from last night’s party. The moment Lin You glanced at him made him more irritated. The expression on her face of “I don’t want to talk to you, and you’d better not approach me” was more pronounced, and this made him feel uncomfortable.
He slammed the laptop shut, turned, and walked out.
