Chapter 25: A Young Woman’s Love
Wen Xin, with her background as an instructor, had a naturally persuasive demeanor. Though strict during training, this didn’t dampen the squad’s affection for her.
Once training ended, she transformed into a friendly, approachable person, chatting and joking with everyone. Lin You admired her greatly too.
In the female soldiers’ quarters, Instructor Wen Xin, Captain Ye Qing, and teammates Qiong Hua and Jing Chu sat around chatting.
Wen Xin glanced at Qiong Hua and gently said, “Qiong Hua, Dr. Lin is a good person, and the Captain is deeply in love with her.”
Then she added firmly, “It’s time to let go of those unrealistic ideas.”
The other three hadn’t expected Wen Xin to bring up this topic, and they all looked over in surprise.
Ye Qing turned and supported Wen Xin, “The instructor is right, Qiong Hua. You should really listen.”
Jing Chu couldn’t help but chime in, “Although I haven’t interacted much with Dr. Lin, it seems like everyone at the base adores her.”
Qiong Hua stayed silent for a moment, then asked, “Did she say anything to you? Or did the Captain mention something?”
Wen Xin quickly shook her head, “No, neither of them said anything to me.” She paused before continuing, “I just don’t want to see you waiting in vain any longer. Besides, Dan Ye is a pretty good guy.”
Ye Qing looked at Qiong Hua and continued, “Qiong Hua, I heard they’ve been married for six years.”
Qiong Hua rolled her eyes and snapped, “We’ve known each other for ten!”
Ye Qing sighed softly and said, “Back then, the Captain outright refused your father, which showed he had no feelings for you.”
Without thinking, Qiong Hua retorted, “You all don’t know the real story. Dr. Lin and the Captain were betrothed by their grandparents. The Captain, being someone who values promises, felt a duty to care for her after her parents passed, so he had no choice but to marry her.”
She added, “And they barely see each other. Otherwise, why hasn’t she visited all these years? I don’t think he cares for her that much. Besides being beautiful, what else does she have?”
The three of them were stunned and puzzled, shocked by this revelation about their marriage.
Then Ye Qing reminded her, “But now she’s stationed here. If the Captain didn’t like her, he wouldn’t have let her come. His character isn’t one to marry someone he doesn’t care for.”
Shifting tone, she added, “Dr. Lin has a Ph.D. in medicine, and the way she handled Yang Zhishang even impressed the entire base. She’s far from just a pretty face.”
Wen Xin nodded in agreement and added, “Even if the Captain doesn’t have special feelings for her, they’re married, and the chance of a divorce is almost non existent.”
Jing Chu shared her thoughts, “I think the Captain isn’t indifferent toward her, he’s quite fond of her.”
“Dr. Liu from the medical unit mentioned that Dr. Lin looks very happy. If the Captain didn’t care for her, would she seem that happy?”
Ye Qing added, “A woman as beautiful as Dr. Lin would be hard for any man to ignore, including the Captain.”
Jing Chu, who had been silent, said, “Qiong Hua, loving someone doesn’t always mean marrying them. Isn’t it wonderful if he’s happy?”
“And besides, I think you should take your father’s advice and consider giving Dan Ye a chance.”
Hearing them all speak in favor of Lin You, Qiong Hua impatiently replied, “Enough, I’m not giving up. After he saved my life, no one else has entered my heart. Besides, you don’t understand the bond between us.”
“I’ll keep visiting the medical unit to observe her. Since you’ll be away at the military district for a meeting, I’ll keep training the medical unit. I want to see what makes her so popular.”
The three shook their heads, knowing how stubborn Qiong Hua could be.
When it came to feelings, the person involved is often blind, while outsiders see clearly. They knew she’d have to come to terms with things herself.
Wen Xin silently made a decision, then turned off the lights and prepared for bed.
On Wen Xin’s last day of training, she accompanied Lin You back toward the family quarters, surprising Lin You, who knew Wen Xin usually stayed in the dorms. Lin You wondered if Wen Xin had something to say.
Lin You spoke up, “Instructor Wen, do you have something to discuss?”
Wen Xin kept her usual calm expression and, after observing Lin You for a few days, found her skilled, intelligent, and humble. Wen Xin smiled and said softly, “Dr. Lin, I’d like to talk about Qiong Hua.”
Lin You nodded politely, “Go ahead.”
Wen Xin continued, “Did you know that Qiong Hua has feelings for the Captain?”
Lin You’s eyes showed some confusion but she still nodded.
Wen Xin noticed that Lin You’s eyes held only curiosity, not jealousy or anger.
“Do you know that the Captain once saved Qiong Hua’s life?”
Lin You shook her head.
Wen Xin continued, “When Qiong Hua graduated from military school and joined the new recruits, the Captain was her commander. Like everyone else, she initially disliked his sternness and harsh training.”
“Then one day, something happened.”
“During a break after training, Qiong Hua was shopping and encountered a robbery. Her sense of justice drove her to intervene and return the stolen bag. However, as she chased after the thief, she unwittingly fell into their trap.”
“The attackers had guns and knives. Overpowered, she was wounded and thought she’d die, but the Captain happened to be dining nearby and saved her, even getting shot in the arm in the process.”
“They both ended up in the hospital. Qiong Hua, who was spoiled as a child, would often complain of pain, and the Captain would sit with her, sharing stories of military values. Over time, she realized he wasn’t so terrible and even found him funny and charming.”
“Young girls often admire heroes, and since then, she’s had feelings for him. When the Captain transferred to the Special Forces, she followed him here.”
Seeing Lin You’s moved expression, Wen Xin grew concerned and asked, “Are you okay, Dr. Lin?”
Lin You took a moment, then responded, “I’m fine. It’s a touching story… a young woman’s love.”
Her voice held a faint tremble, which Wen Xin detected.
Wen Xin, fearing Lin You might misunderstand, quickly clarified, “Dr. Lin, please don’t take it the wrong way. That wasn’t my intention.”
Lin You cut her off, her tone cool, “Why are you telling me this, Instructor?”
Wen Xin sighed and explained, “I only want you to understand Qiong Hua and not hold any resentment toward her. It’s just one sided on her part, and the Captain has always rejected her advances, even when her father tried to intervene.”
“Tomorrow, Qiong Hua will be leading the medical unit’s training for the last three days. I’m not sure if she’ll act rudely, but I hope you won’t take it to heart. Her father has significant influence in the military, and I want you to know that the Captain’s heart belongs solely to you.”
“I’ll also encourage Qiong Hua to let go of her feelings.”
“Wishing you and the Captain everlasting happiness.”
