Chapter 31: Argument
Suddenly, on the next day of work, Lin You deliberately wore a pair of black framed glasses to conceal her red and swollen eyes.
Xiao Nan and Xiao Bei, knowing the situation, could guess that she hadn’t slept well the night before.
They quickly approached her, asking with concern, “Doctor Lin, are you okay?”
Lin You gently shook her head, indicating that she was fine.
During the morning meeting, Doctor Liu curiously asked, “Doctor Lin, why are you wearing glasses today?”
Lin You glanced at Xiao Nan and Xiao Bei before responding, “I accidentally got some wind and sand in my eyes when I came back yesterday, so they’re tearing up.”
Doctor Liu replied, “You should put in some eye drops, otherwise, it must be uncomfortable.”
Lin You quickly responded, “Thank you, I’ve already used some.”
Throughout the day, Xiao Nan and Xiao Bei tried to find a suitable opportunity to comfort Lin You, but she was extremely busy with multiple emergency surgeries.
For Lin You, this busyness was a source of comfort because when she was fully immersed in her work, she couldn’t dwell on her troubling thoughts.
Finally, when the workday ended in the afternoon, Xiao Nan and Xiao Bei walked up to Lin You and sincerely invited her, “Doctor Lin, you have to go home and cook alone. That’s too hard. Why don’t you have dinner with us tonight? We can cook for you.”
Lin You appreciated their concern but worried about being a bother. “Thank you, I’m a bit tired and want to go home and rest.”
After returning home, she had no appetite, so she skipped cooking and just made instant noodles before going to bed.
Exhausted from the day, she slept soundly through the night.
Three days later, Qin Lang returned.
While Lin You was showering in the bathroom, she heard the sound of keys turning at the door, guessing that he had come back.
Originally, she was almost done showering, but thinking about how to face Qin Lang afterward made her choose to stay in the bathroom a bit longer.
She turned her attention to the clothes she had brought into the bathroom for washing and decided to clean them first.
After using the hairdryer to dry her hair, she casually washed her clothes as well.
After Qin Lang entered the house, he heard the sound of water from the bathroom and realized Lin You was inside.
He turned to the kitchen and noticed that there were some leftover dishes on the dining table, still warm likely from when she had just left them. He picked up the bowl and chopsticks, sat at the table, and began eating while waiting for her, thinking about what to say to her, wondering if she had misunderstood him that day.
After finishing his meal, he noticed that the water in the bathroom still hadn’t stopped, and there were no signs of her coming out.
Qin Lang felt puzzled and walked to the bathroom door, gently knocking. “Yoyo, are you in there? I’m back.”
Lin You heard his voice and felt a surge of conflicting emotions, but she didn’t want to respond. Moments later, she heard him forcefully tugging at the bathroom door, which annoyed her.
She thought to herself that if she didn’t go out now, he would definitely come in. Besides, it was he who had done something wrong, why should she be afraid to get up and open the door?
When Qin Lang saw Lin You standing inside, he immediately rushed forward and hugged her tightly.
“Wife.”
The term felt particularly jarring to Lin You, she frowned and struggled out of Qin Lang’s embrace.
She turned to pick up the washed clothes and walked toward the balcony.
As Qin Lang watched her open the door, he noticed her unusually cold gaze and unhappy expression, realizing that she was angry.
He just wanted to hold her, thinking that she would hug him back like she usually did. But that didn’t happen, and he felt a sense of panic rise in him; he had never been this nervous even in life and death situations.
Qin Lang cautiously followed her and explained, “Yoyo, that day we were on a mission.”
“Don’t misunderstand, there was nothing between us, really.”
Lin You turned around and glared at him, coldly asking, “How did you get that injury on your arm?”
“During a mission.”
Lin You scoffed, continuing her interrogation, “Have you given Qiong Hua gifts?”
Qin Lang was confused as to why she was asking these questions. Seeing her furrowed brow, wide open eyes, and flaring nostrils made it apparent that she was suppressing her anger.
But he still firmly answered, “No.”
Hearing this response, Lin You fixed her gaze on him, her eyes filled with disbelief and anger.
Her lips trembled slightly as if she was trying to control her emotions, but ultimately, she couldn’t hold back any longer. With a hint of coldness in her tone, she asked, “Then why have I heard that you stayed behind to save Qiong Hua?”
Qin Lang was taken aback by her words. When did he ever save Qiong Hua? He didn’t even know about it. He had saved her life on a mission, but that scar wasn’t from that time.
He quickly asked, “Who told you that?”
Lin You watched his reaction and felt he was intentionally dodging the question.
Taking a deep breath, she continued her rhythm, “Does it matter who told me? You’ve never given her gifts? But do you know this?”
Qin Lang raised his eyes to look at her. At this moment, Lin You’s face was flushed, her eyes glinting with clear anger. Each of her words felt like they were forced out from between her teeth
“She once boasted to me about the necklace you gave her, saying that she was the one who loved you the most in this world.”
As Lin You’s tone grew increasingly agitated, tears welled up in her eyes. “She even mocked me for not being worthy of you.”
“And how did she know? My parents died early, and I’ve been living in the Qin family all along.”
At this moment, Qin Lang was completely panicked, he never expected Qiong Hua would do something like this.
Not daring to look Lin You in the eye with her cold gaze, he held her tightly, frantically explaining, “No, I’ve never given her gifts.”
“For all these years, I have never liked her, I have always made it clear that I refuse her.”
“And I won’t tell her our private matters. As for how she knows, I need to investigate.”
Qin Lang was rambling in his attempts to convince Lin You of his innocence.
Sighing deeply, he cupped Lin You’s face, gazing into her eyes filled with regret and pain, softly saying, “I’m sorry, I didn’t expect her to do this. I apologize to you on her behalf.”
When Lin You heard him say this, her anger flared up instantly, her eyes wide open, her voice rising in pitch as she furiously questioned, “You’re apologizing for her? What identity do you have to do that? Her leader, or her lover?”
When Qin Lang heard this, he could hardly believe his ears, staring at Lin You in shock, completely unable to understand how she could say such insulting words.
He frowned and sternly retorted, “Lin You, what are you talking about?”
Lin You had completely lost her rationality, her emotions uncontrollable.
“You’ve never given her gifts? Was that bouquet of flowers on that day bought by her with her own money? Or did you not take care of her thoughtfully? Or didn’t you save her back then?”
“You know very well she likes you, why didn’t you keep your distance given that you’re married? You’re the only man in the team! Why did she insist on being in the same group as you?”
“You made her fall for you, making her believe that she still had a chance. Is that your fault, or do you care about her too?”
Her voice was choked with emotion, and every word felt like a sword stabbing into Qin Lang’s heart.
Qin Lang watched her trembling body, her chest rising and falling violently as she gasped for breath, as if she were suffocating. Her once bright eyes were now red, bloodshot, and filled with tears that she stubbornly held back, defiantly raising her chin to prevent them from falling.
He had never seen her like this and felt an intense fear in his heart. He quickly stepped forward, taking her hand and saying, “Yoyo, it’s my fault, I don’t care about her, what I care about is you.”
However, she forcefully shook off his hand, tears streaming down her cheeks as she said with a tone of grievance, “You’ve never truly cared about me. You only know how to fulfill your desires. You’ve never taken me to see a movie or given me a flower, let alone a gift.”
“You just treat me like a tool, like a hungry wolf pressing down on me.”
After saying this, she turned and walked toward the bedroom, slamming the door shut with a bang and locking it behind her.
With Qin Lang’s abilities, a mere door could not stop him.
But now he didn’t dare do anything, fearing he would offend her again.
He turned and walked out the door.
