Chapter 39: Letting Go
Qin Lang was extremely busy that day.
He went to assess the disaster area in the mountains, checked with the village for any missing persons, and carefully investigated the exact cause of the fire. When he returned at noon and saw Lin You still sleeping, he quietly left again to visit Li Yang and Qiong Hua in the hospital.
Both surgeries went well, they weren’t major operations.
When Qiong Hua saw Qin Lang come in, she anxiously tried to get out of bed, placing her injured foot on her healthy one, standing straight, and saluting him. “Report, I have something to say.”
Qin Lang felt grateful for her staying with Lin You last night. If it hadn’t been for her, Lin You could have been in real danger, and his opinion of her softened significantly.
“Go ahead.”
Seeing the disdain in his eyes had diminished, Qiong Hua felt happy. She said loudly, “Captain, I’m sorry. I apologize to you and Sister in law for my previous mistakes. I will correct my faults and work together with my colleagues from now on. I hope you can give me this chance.”
Qin Lang didn’t respond but walked up to her, gently patting her shoulder. “Just focus on recovering now. We can talk about other things later.”
After saying this, he turned and left.
Watching his retreating figure, Qiong Hua couldn’t help but shed tears of regret.
Wen Xin stepped forward to help her back to bed and asked with concern, “Qiong Hua, have you really let go?”
Qiong Hua wiped her tears. “I could tell long ago that Captain Qin only likes Doctor Lin. I just couldn’t accept it. When I was with her in the mountains that day, I understood why he only likes her, she’s really a good person. Even when she hated me, she still insisted on disinfecting my injury.”
“Even when she was scared and lost, she still came to find me and stayed with me.”
“Even when I spoke harshly, she obediently followed my instructions.”
Wen Xin went to hug Qiong Hua, but Qiong Hua stopped her and continued, “When I saw her cry and how surprised Captain Qin was to find her this morning, how he hugged her without caring about the others around them, I realized how wrong I had been.”
Tears filled her eyes again, and she stepped forward to embrace Wen Xin, crying out in pain.
Wen Xin gently patted her back, knowing that while it was painful now, letting go of her obsession would ultimately be good for all three of them.
When Qin Lang returned, the sky was already dark.
As he stepped into the house, the aroma of food wafted through the air.
Lin You walked out of the kitchen and, seeing Qin Lang return, brought the dishes to the dining table, then stepped forward to hug him, her arms wrapping around his waist.
Looking up with a slight smile, she said, “Welcome home.”
Seeing her regain her previous tenderness, Qin Lang felt the fatigue from that morning vanish. His heart settled, and a charming smile appeared on his face.
He lifted her chin and kissed her deeply, seeking her breath as he closed his eyes, fingers tangling in her hair.
Though he was longing for her, he still tried to restrain himself gently.
Lin You’s hands rested around his neck, responding to his passion.
Qin Lang kissed her deeper, his hand moving to her slim waist. After a long absence of half a month, their kiss ignited their mutual desire.
In the end, only their breaths and heartbeats remained in the room.
After a long while, Qin Lang sat on the couch, still holding Lin You, catching his breath, and whispered in her ear, “Wife, I still can’t be gentle all the time.”
Lin You gave him a light kiss on the lips and rested her head on his chest.
“From now on, do as you please.”
Qin Lang let out a deep laugh from his chest.
After a while, he picked Lin You up and brought her to the dining table. Lin You, feeling shy, tried to get off him, but his strong arms held her in place.
He placed a piece of meat in her mouth and laughed, “Didn’t you say I could do as I please?”
Lin You lowered her head, chewing the meat, and didn’t say another word.
Qin Lang recalled her previous complaints, released her, and stood up to serve rice.
Lin You promptly sat on the other side.
After dinner, Qin Lang went to take a shower while Lin You washed the dishes.
Having slept nearly all day, Lin You wasn’t tired at all. She sat on the bed in their room, picking up a book to read casually.
When Qin Lang emerged from the bathroom, he directly climbed into bed and tossed the book from her hands.
He laid her down, positioning himself on top of her.
Lin You noticed the fatigue on Qin Lang’s face and didn’t want him to do anything further. She gently pushed him, softly reminding him, “You’ve been busy all day, and you were on the road last night. Aren’t you tired?”
Qin Lang got off her and lay beside her, still holding her waist.
“Wife, let’s chat.”
Lin You turned to face him, her hands tracing his firm jaw, and she softly replied, “Okay.”
Qin Lang felt her hands gliding over his face, sending a delightful shiver through him.
“Am I handsome?”
Lin You didn’t expect him to ask this out of the blue. She giggled but then, seeing his serious expression, nodded and replied, “Very handsome.”
“More handsome than Wang Xin?”
Lin You, momentarily confused, didn’t react immediately and instinctively asked, “Who is Wang Xin?”
Qin Lang burst out laughing; good, since she forgot about him, that meant the person wasn’t important at all.
Lin You suddenly sat up, looking seriously at Qin Lang, asking, “Did you go to the hospital today?”
“I did.”
“How are Qiong Hua and Li Yang?”
Qin Lang laid her back down again, holding her as he answered, “Neither of them has any major issues.”
After saying this, he closed his eyes.
After a while, Lin You softly spoke while nestled in his arms, “Qiong Hua is actually a good person. If it weren’t for her yesterday, I wouldn’t know what to do.”
Time passed slowly, and Qin Lang remained silent, making Lin You feel anxious as she bit her lip. Finally, she gathered her courage and cautiously voiced her request, “Let’s forgive Qiong Hua. In the end, it’s our own problem. If she realizes her mistakes, let’s not punish her, okay?”
Qin Lang continued to be silent, and she couldn’t help but feel puzzled. She understood it was a sensitive topic that required more time to discuss.
Lin You gently lifted her head and found that Qin Lang had already fallen asleep. Looking at his weary face and the dark circles under his eyes, she recalled how he had exhausted himself for her. She could rest all day, but he still had to deal with squad matters, he was truly tired.
Lin You felt a pang of sympathy.
What the head nurse said was correct; Qin Lang’s work was full of risks. She shouldn’t let him worry about her, nor should she argue with him. She had to learn to be independent and strong, not to distract him from his duties.
Although they had been apart emotionally for days and hadn’t mentioned their previous misunderstandings, none of that mattered anymore. As long as they were still together, that was enough.
That’s how it is between couples, even after fierce arguments and any grievances, sometimes a simple kiss or a moment of intimacy can resolve many issues without them even realizing it.
