Chapter 26: Alive or Dead, I Must See
“Then hurry up.” The old doctor wanted to transfer the money to Ling Yao as soon as possible so he could go back and tell the big shot the good news.
The staff member responded and went to the manager’s office.
A moment later, the manager came out in a hurry, followed by the staff member.
He saw the old doctor and quickly smiled, “Mr. Yang, it’s you.” Mr. Yang was a major client of their bank. He couldn’t afford to offend him.
Mr. Yang nodded, “President Zhou, I want to transfer ten thousand yuan to this young lady.”
President Zhou glanced at Ling Yao, curious about her identity. However, he didn’t ask.
The money belonged to the bank, and there would be plenty of opportunities to get to know her in the future. He nodded with a smile,
“I’ll handle it right away. Xiao Zhang, quickly process Mr. Yang’s transaction.”
“Okay.” The staff member quickly helped Ling Yao and Mr. Yang with the transfer.
President Zhou walked out and handed Ling Yao a business card, “Comrade Ling Yao, this is my business card.
Feel free to contact me if you need anything.” She could make friends with someone like Mr. Yang and even have him transfer money to her. She definitely wasn’t an ordinary person.
“Okay.” Ling Yao smiled and took the business card.
After exchanging a few pleasantries with President Zhou, Ling Yao left the bank with Mr. Yang.
“If you can find ginseng of this quality again, you must come to me.”
“Of course.” Ling Yao nodded. But she probably wouldn’t sell any more ginseng. After all, she didn’t need money now.
Besides, the ginseng in her space wasn’t ordinary ginseng. It was all ginseng over five hundred years old.
If she took any more out to sell, it would cause a stir and might even bring unnecessary trouble to her and her mother.
In this life, she just wanted to live peacefully with her mother and not get involved in any more conflicts.
Mr. Yang returned to the medical hall and immediately called the big shot.
“Hello! I’ve acquired another ginseng. This ginseng is of excellent quality. It should be over five hundred years old. Okay, okay.” Mr. Yang hung up the phone and let out a sigh of relief.
He went to the safe, opened it, carefully took out the ginseng, held it in his palm, and admired it carefully. He couldn’t help but lean in and smell it. He immediately felt refreshed,
“It truly is ginseng over five hundred years old. It’s a pity it’s not mine.” He wondered if Ling Yao would be able to find ginseng of such excellent quality again.
On the other side, the man hung up the phone and quickly went upstairs.
He pushed open the door, walked to the window, and respectfully said to the middle-aged man in the wheelchair,
“Dad! Mr. Yang from Huayi Medical Hall just called. He said he found another ginseng over five hundred years old.”
The middle-aged man nodded, his expression still calm, “Have you found out anything about the matter I asked you to investigate?”
His eyes were dim as he looked out the window. Deep in his eyes, there was guilt and longing. After leaving his wife and daughter and returning to the city, he was sent to the battlefield by his father.
His father said that as long as he could achieve military merit and be promoted to the rank of battalion commander, he would agree to let him bring his wife and daughter back and acknowledge their status.
To be reunited with his wife and daughter as soon as possible, he had been working hard. He was fearless in the face of any dangerous mission. Finally, he succeeded.
But when he wanted to bring his wife and daughter back, he received news of their deaths.
He didn’t believe it. He had people investigate repeatedly, but he received the same results.
His father advised him to give up and remarry, but he refused. He adopted the three orphans left behind by his comrade.
All these years, he had been thinking about his wife and daughter. He didn’t believe they were dead. He would find them.
The man pursed his lips, “I’ve been investigating, but there’s no news of them.” He knew his father had been missing his wife and daughter, but all the information he had found indicated that they had passed away.
The middle-aged man sighed heavily, his voice low and mournful, “Keep looking. Alive or dead, I must see.”
“Yes.” The man responded, “Dad! Should we send someone to get the ginseng or have it mailed here?”
“I’ll go with you to get it.” The middle-aged man said.
“But your leg.” The man looked at the middle-aged man’s leg with concern. His father’s leg had been injured in an explosion on the battlefield a few years ago.
His father had seen many doctors over the years, but the results were always the same: incurable.
A while ago, he went to Yuncheng on business and happened to buy a hundred-year-old ginseng at the Huayi Medical Hall in Yuncheng. He gave the ginseng to his father to nourish his body.
After his father ate the ginseng, he found that his leg injury seemed to have improved. So, he called Mr. Yang at the Huayi Medical Hall and asked him if he had any ginseng of the same quality. If he did, he wanted to buy it.
Today, he received a call from Mr. Yang, who told him that he had just received a ginseng over five hundred years old.
“I’m fine. I want to go to Yuncheng.” His wife and daughter were in Yuncheng. He wanted to see it with his own eyes. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to let it go.
“Dad! The doctor said your leg can’t move yet. How about this? I’ll get the ginseng and bring it back. If it works well after you eat it, I’ll take you to Yuncheng next time.”
“I’m going this time.” The middle-aged man insisted.
“What are you going for? Don’t you know your condition?” A stern voice came from the doorway.
The middle-aged man didn’t even turn his head. Although the person was his father, he hated him. If it hadn’t been for him, he wouldn’t have been separated from his wife and daughter.
“Grandpa!” The man saw the person and greeted him respectfully.
The old man nodded slightly, came to the middle-aged man’s side, and looked at him with disappointment,
“They’re dead. Why are you still so obsessed after all these years?” His son was the one he was most proud of. He was capable and strong, but he had fallen for ‘love’.
“They’re not dead. Don’t say they’re dead.” The middle-aged man glared angrily at the old man.
The old man shook his head and sighed, “What’s the point of deceiving yourself like this?”
He couldn’t understand what charm that country woman had that made his son think about her for so many years.
The middle-aged man turned his head, his voice firm, “I will find them.”
“You’re going to make me angry. Cough, cough, cough…” The old man coughed violently. How could he have such an unfilial son?
“Grandpa! Calm down.” The man quickly stepped forward and gently patted the old man’s back.
The old man calmed down and felt much better. “Anyway, you’re not allowed to go to Yuncheng this time. If you dare to go, I’ll cut off our father-son relationship.”
He knew that the mother and daughter were not dead. He didn’t want his son to see them again. He had to find a way to make them leave Yuncheng and disappear from his son’s life forever.
