Chapter 64: Missing
Mr. Yang was stunned. Then, he asked excitedly, “You know my senior brother? Where is he now?”
He and his senior brother hadn’t seen each other for over a decade.
He had been looking for his senior brother, but he hadn’t heard from him all these years. He thought his senior brother had already passed away.
After all, during that period, their traditional Chinese medicine practitioners had suffered too much.
Some were sent to cowsheds, some were sent to farms, and they did the most tiring and hardest work.
They couldn’t even eat enough, and they were often dragged out for criticism.
Thinking of that painful and difficult time, Mr. Yang couldn’t help but sigh. That period was like walking through the gates of hell.
Both his body and mind had suffered greatly. He almost died. Fortunately, he persevered and finally saw the light again.
“He’s my master. He’s already gone abroad.” Ling Yao wouldn’t meet her master until ten years later.
“I see. Is your master doing well now? Did he say when he’s coming back?” Mr. Yang’s gaze towards Ling Yao became gentler.
His senior brother’s disciple was also his junior. He naturally had to take extra care of her.
“He’s doing well now. He’s always been very worried about you. But he can’t come back now.”
In her previous life, her master told her that his life was also full of hardships during his first few years abroad.
He worked odd jobs, carrying cargo at the docks. He endured countless hardships to earn enough money to open a traditional Chinese medicine clinic.
However, in a foreign country, traditional Chinese medicine clinics were not accepted by people.
His clinic was smashed more than once. Finally, he had the good fortune to save a big shot.
That big shot helped him, and he was able to open a traditional Chinese medicine clinic in Chinatown.
“It’s good that my senior brother is okay.” Mr. Yang nodded with a smile. As long as his senior brother was still alive, they would meet again one day.
“Yaoyao, did your master teach you the Taiyi Needle?”
“Yes.” Ling Yao nodded.
“Then take this set of Taiyi Needles. This is a little gift from your uncle.”
Mr. Yang was beaming with joy, as if he were the Buddha Maitreya. He had also taken on several apprentices, but their talent was not good.
When he taught them the Taiyi Needle, they could only learn the form, but they couldn’t understand the secrets within, let alone use it.
Whenever he thought of this, he couldn’t help but sigh. If there were no successors, his skills would be lost.
“Thank you, Uncle!” Ling Yao didn’t refuse. It was a gift from an elder, and she couldn’t refuse.
“Yaoyao, how many needles of the Taiyi Needle have you learned?” Mr. Yang planned to pass on his lifelong skills to Ling Yao.
Ling Yao was clearly a smart child, and he also believed in his senior brother’s judgment.
“I’ve learned them all.” In her previous life, she had used the Taiyi Needle to save many people.
Even with her eyes closed, she could use the Taiyi Needle accurately and flawlessly. The Taiyi Needle had become a part of her body.
“That’s great.” Mr. Yang smiled even more happily. Finally, they had a successor.
He didn’t doubt Ling Yao’s words. With Ling Yao’s current achievements, there was no need for her to lie to him.
Besides, he had been with Ling Yao for so long and knew her character.
“Yaoyao, if you have any questions in medicine in the future, feel free to come to your uncle.” As long as Ling Yao needed him, he would do everything he could.
“Okay, Uncle.” Ling Yao was also happy. She didn’t expect to have this kind of relationship with Mr. Yang.
A car drove slowly on the road. Ji Yanting looked at the scenery passing by outside the window, his mind filled with thoughts.
His gaze fell on a cinema not far away. His eyes moved slightly, “Stop!”
The driver quickly pulled over to the side of the road.
Ji Yanting pushed open the car door and got out. He said to Ji Yuanming, who wanted to follow him, “I’ll walk around by myself.
You and the driver go back to the hotel. I’ll be back later.” He planned to stay in Yuncheng tonight and go back early tomorrow morning.
“Dad! I’m not at ease leaving you alone.” Ji Yuanming was worried.
His father’s leg had only healed recently, and he didn’t know anyone in Yuncheng. What if something happened to him?
“I’m not a child. Don’t worry about me. Go back.” Ji Yanting waved to Ji Yuanming and walked towards the cinema.
Ji Yuanming shook his head and sighed. After waiting for a while, he still followed quietly.
Walking into the cinema, Ji Yanting glanced at the movie posters on the wall and then scanned the surroundings.
There didn’t seem to be much change here. It was still similar to when he came here before.
Endless longing surged through his heart. He seemed to see his and Xuemei’s figures from back then. They were walking side by side, laughing and talking as they entered.
They were newly married at the time, deeply in love. Xuemei wanted to watch a movie, so he brought her here.
They bought a bag of melon seeds and a bottle of soda. They sat in the dark cinema, watching the movie and sharing their laughter and happiness.
Their laughter echoed through the cinema, as if the whole world was just the two of them.
Now, he was the only one left here, relying on memories to yearn for the person in his heart.
He bought a ticket, a bag of melon seeds, and a bottle of soda. Ji Yanting walked into the cinema and sat down in the seat where he and Ling Xuemei had sat before.
“Xuemei, do you want some soda?” He looked at the seat next to him.
It seemed as if a girl with two braids and a smiling face was still sitting there. She was looking at him with gentle eyes.
“Okay.”
Ji Yanting smiled, but his eyes slowly welled up. Xuemei, I miss you so much! I miss you so much!
An hour later, Ji Yanting walked out of the cinema and came to an alley opposite. This alley used to be a black market.
He had brought Xuemei here to buy cloth and rice. At the time, they ran into an inspection and almost got caught.
Thinking back to that time, Ji Yanting smiled slightly. They were very poor back then, but they were truly happy.
If time could turn back, he wouldn’t choose to return to the city. He would stay here and be with his wife and daughter.
Unfortunately, there are no ifs. He would never see his beloved again.
He turned around and walked towards the entrance of the alley, following the path he had come from.
Suddenly, a wave of dizziness hit him. Ji Yanting quickly grabbed the wall, trying to steady himself. But his vision was still engulfed in darkness.
“Dad!” Ji Yuanming saw this and ran over anxiously.
Ling Yao had just turned into the alley when she saw the two of them. Seeing that one of them had fainted, she quickly went over to check.
She realized that they were the two people she had met at Huayitang.
“Don’t worry. I’ll take a look at him.” Ling Yao reached out and felt Ji Yanting’s wrist, taking his pulse.
Ji Yuanming saw Ling Yao’s actions and knew that she was a doctor. He didn’t say anything and supported Ji Yanting.
“He’s been too emotionally overwhelmed. I’ll give him two needles. My house is in the alley ahead.
You carry him over.” Ling Yao pointed ahead. It was a good thing she decided to take a shortcut through this alley today.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have encountered them.
