Chapter 87: : Peril
Lu Qingyun slowly hung up the phone, a faint smile still lingering on his lips, as if he were still immersed in the call.
Ji Yuanming couldn’t contain his curiosity and eagerly asked, “You really have a girlfriend? Come on, tell me who it is.”
Lu Qingyun lazily glanced at Ji Yuanming, a slight smile playing on his lips, revealing a hint of mystery.
He deliberately played coy, “You’ll find out later.” He couldn’t tell Ji Yuanming. If this guy knew his girlfriend was his sister, who knows how smug he would be.
“Lu Qingyun, are we still brothers?” Ji Yuanming put on a serious face, pretending to be angry.
He had to know who Lu Qingyun’s girlfriend was today, or he would be itching to know.
“Alright, I’ll tell you, but you have to stay calm.” Lu Qingyun’s tone was playful. He decided to give Ji Yuanming a heads-up.
At that moment, the phone on the desk suddenly rang.
The smiles on Lu Qingyun and Ji Yuanming’s faces instantly disappeared, replaced by seriousness and focus.
Lu Qingyun quickly reached out and picked up the phone. He listened intently to the content coming from the other end, his expression grave.
“Yes!” Lu Qingyun replied concisely and firmly. His voice conveyed a sense of responsibility and determination.
Lu Qingyun put down the phone with a cold expression. He had just received orders that a smuggling ring had appeared in the Yuncheng area.
They were not only smuggling weapons and drugs but also kidnapping women and children. They were utterly ruthless. This time, he would bring them down.
On Sunday, Wu Xin invited Ling Yao to go shopping.
“Aren’t you supposed to be studying?” Yesterday, when Wu Xin parted ways with her, she said she would stay home and study hard today, hoping to get a good score in the college entrance exam.
Wu Xin gave a tired smile and shook her head slightly, “I studied until three o’clock last night.
My head was spinning. I couldn’t take in anything. So, I decided to relax today.
Look, there’s a sugar man seller over there. Let’s go take a look.”
With that, Wu Xin grabbed Ling Yao’s hand and excitedly ran towards the sugar man stall.
They arrived at the sugar man stall. An elderly woman, kind and amiable, was intently using her fingers to skillfully mold the sugar figures.
Before long, a lifelike and vivid monkey was formed in her hands.
Wu Xin’s eyes sparkled with admiration. She whispered to Ling Yao, “Look, this old lady’s craftsmanship is amazing!”
“Yeah.” Ling Yao smiled and nodded.
The old lady handed the monkey she had just made to a child who was waiting at the stall.
Then, she smiled at Ling Yao and Wu Xin, “Would you two girls like to buy one?”
“Grandma, I want to buy a horse. Can you make one?” Wu Xin asked.
“Of course, I can.” The old lady smiled at Ling Yao, “Little girl, what do you want to buy?”
“I don’t need anything.” Ling Yao shook her head.
The old lady smiled and nodded. She took a lump of sugar syrup from a small drawer and started to mold it.
Halfway through, the old lady’s face suddenly turned pale. She swayed and leaned on the stall, as if she were about to faint.
“Grandma, what’s wrong?” Wu Xin quickly stepped forward to support the old lady.
“I feel dizzy. My house is in the alley ahead. Could you please take me home?” The old lady weakly pointed to an alley nearby.
Ling Yao felt a sense of unease, “Grandma, I happen to know a little bit about medicine. Let me check your pulse.”
The old lady pulled her hand back and shook her head,
“It’s my old ailment. You can just take me home. I have medicine there. I’ll be fine after I take it.”
“Should we take her home?” Wu Xin supported the old lady and looked at Ling Yao for confirmation.
Ling Yao glanced at the old lady who was tightly holding Wu Xin’s hand and nodded.
In this situation, they couldn’t refuse. They could only act as they went. Hopefully, she was overthinking.
They supported the old lady and walked towards the alley.
“My house is right ahead.” The old lady pointed to a courtyard in front.
When they reached the courtyard, the old lady asked Wu Xin to help her to the door. She reached out and gently knocked.
Ling Yao had been paying attention to the old lady’s every move. She noticed that her knocking technique was a bit unusual, as if she were sending a signal to someone inside.
This discovery further confirmed her suspicions.
“Wu Xin, since Grandma is home, let’s go.” Ling Yao stepped forward, tightly holding Wu Xin’s hand, and gave her a wink.
“You two girls, thank you for taking me home. Come in and have some tea before you go.”
The old lady also held Wu Xin’s hand tightly, refusing to let go. She smiled at them, her eyes filled with sincere gratitude.
Just then, the courtyard gate slowly opened.
A young man walked out from inside. He exuded a chillingly sinister aura, making one’s heart feel cold.
His eyes swept over Ling Yao and Wu Xin, revealing a satisfied look, as if he were sizing up his prey.
“He’s my son. Don’t be afraid. Come in and sit for a while.” The old lady tightly held Wu Xin’s hand and forcefully pulled her towards the house.
“No need. We have to go.” Wu Xin also realized the danger. She was filled with fear and wanted to escape this terrifying place.
Seeing this, Ling Yao took out a needle and quickly pricked the old lady’s hand that was holding Wu Xin.
“Ah!” The old lady cried out in pain and immediately released Wu Xin.
“Run!” Ling Yao pulled Wu Xin and ran.
They hadn’t run two steps when Wu Xin’s clothes were grabbed from behind.
Wu Xin’s heart skipped a beat. A wave of panic surged through her. Then, she felt a strong pulling force on her neck.
The force made it almost impossible for Wu Xin to breathe. Her throat felt like it was being squeezed by an invisible hand. Every breath became incredibly difficult.
She instinctively struggled, trying to break free from that terrifying hand, but the disparity in strength made her efforts seem so futile.
Ling Yao noticed something was wrong. She quickly turned around and, without hesitation, launched an attack on the man who was grabbing Wu Xin.
Ling Yao’s movements were agile and decisive. Every punch and kick was filled with power and anger.
The young man was a little surprised. He didn’t expect this beautiful woman to be a martial artist.
“Call for help.” He was hit by Ling Yao several times on his face and body. He struggled to defend against her attacks.
The old lady quickly shouted into the house. Then, five or six burly men rushed out.
“Run! Go call the police!” Ling Yao shouted to Wu Xin, who was already scared silly. As long as Wu Xin escaped, she would find a way to get away.
Wu Xin reacted and immediately ran, but it was too late. She was captured.
“Don’t move! Or I’ll strangle her.”
