Chapter 94: Preparing to Create a Space Farm
Hu Zhaodi was worried that the sausages might spoil in the daytime heat, so she asked the Ji brothers to hang them all in her bedroom.
Once the sausages were hung, Hu Tieniu and the old scholar took their leave. After washing up, Hu Zhaodi entered her room, locked the door, and with a single thought, entered her space.
Her main concern was that the wild boars might wake up and destroy her precious ginseng.
Thankfully, the boars were still unconscious, and the ginseng seedlings in the space remained untouched. The plants were thriving beautifully.
She walked to the clearing behind the “hospital” area in her space and saw all thirty-six boars lying there, motionless. However, a new worry crossed her mind—what if the boars wandered out and trampled her ginseng?
She thought, If only the wild boars could stay confined to the small forest behind the hospital and not wander into the ginseng field.
As soon as the thought crossed her mind, the space automatically created an invisible boundary around the small forest, defining the boars’ territory. But Hu Zhaodi was completely unaware of this change.
Just as she was deep in thought about how to contain the boars, she heard their grunting as they began to stir.
Oh no!
What if they went berserk?
But contrary to her fears, the boars seemed calm upon waking, behaving as tamely as domesticated pigs.
Suddenly, one boar noticed her and started to approach. Hu Zhaodi stepped back and summoned a pouch of strong sedative powder, just in case.
Before she could open the powder, the boar appeared to collide with an invisible wall, stumbled a bit, then turned and walked back to the small forest.
She was stunned.
What was going on?
She took a few steps forward to the spot where the boar had “hit the wall” but couldn’t feel anything. She walked further and still found nothing unusual.
Had the boars seen a ghost?
Determined, she stepped back and made some noise to draw the boars’ attention. They perked up, thinking she was there to feed them, and trotted over excitedly.
Yet again, they seemed to bump into an invisible wall.
“Oh, wow! This is amazing! Could it be that this space can actually create an enclosure based on my thoughts, keeping the boars confined to the forest behind the hospital?”
Satisfied, she put away the sedative and summoned two large cabbages, using them to lure the boars. After testing several times, including from the other side of the hospital, she confirmed that the boars truly couldn’t leave the designated forest area.
Excited, Hu Zhaodi jumped up and down in delight. “Wow! This feature is fantastic! It looks like I can turn this space into a super farm after all. I’m going to be rich! Hahaha…”
With a single thought, more cabbages appeared in the forest, scattered among the boars.
While they happily munched away, she moved over to the spiritual spring and closed her eyes, focusing on cultivating the remaining open areas of land.
Once she’d cleared all the available ground, she planted more ginseng seeds in the newly prepared field. After watering them with the spring water, she exited the space.
Lying in bed, Hu Zhaodi mulled over how to develop her space into a super farm.
Since arriving in this world, she had sensed that the space seemed to respond to her growing abilities. Though it wasn’t enormous yet, it was big enough to make a modest farm a reality.
Hu Zhaodi figured that if her space could confine wild boars, it could probably manage other livestock too. She decided to set aside some time to buy chickens, ducks, and geese to raise in her space. As for other animals, she’d try her luck in the mountains, catching whatever she could to expand her farm gradually.
With such a handy “golden finger” ability as a farming girl, she thought, life hadn’t treated her badly at all. Even if she never found a way back to her old life, this space farm alone could make her the wealthiest woman in Lingxiao Country.
Her thoughts spun wildly until she eventually drifted into sleep late at night.
The next morning, after breakfast, Uncle Ji and his family headed to the small pine grove, while Zhaodi stayed back. She found two large basins and filled them with ice from her space to keep her room cool. She considered storing the sausages in her space but didn’t want to worry the Ji family if they suddenly disappeared. This setup would keep them fresh for now.
With that done, she locked her door, harnessed the cart, and set off for the county. They were nearly out of rice at home, and without some reason to go out, she’d have no good excuse to bring grain from her space. Besides, she wanted to see if she could buy some chickens or ducklings to start raising in her space.
After arriving in the county, she went straight to find Han Dongsheng and asked him to take her shopping.
When Han Dongsheng heard that she wanted to buy chickens, ducks, and geese, he looked at her like she’d lost her mind.
“Where are you going to keep them? The house isn’t even built yet. Isn’t this a bit too early?” he asked.
Zhaodi grinned mysteriously. “Don’t worry about that. Just take me to buy them.”
“I honestly don’t know where to find them,” he shrugged. “We’ll just have to wander around and see. But don’t blame me if we can’t find any.”
“I won’t! If we can’t find young ones, we’ll get adults. As long as they lay eggs, it’s fine.”
“Little sister, who would sell their egg-laying hens? If anyone is selling, it’s usually an old hen or a rooster that’s no good for laying.”
“How will we know unless we try? I might get lucky!”
Han Dongsheng sighed. “Alright, but let’s try finding Big Brother Wu first. He might know where to look.”
“Then let’s go now!” Zhaodi said eagerly.
With no choice, Han Dongsheng accompanied her to Wu Yinghai’s stable.
When Wu Yinghai heard she wanted chickens, ducks, and geese, his reaction was similar to Han Dongsheng’s.
“Zhaodi, young chickens, ducks, and geese are hard to come by. Nobody’s willing to sell their chicks. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone selling them around the county.”
Zhaodi’s shoulders drooped in disappointment. “If I’d known, I would have just gone to another village to look.”
Wu Yinghai’s eyes lit up. “Wait, Zhaodi, I know a place. There’s an old lady in a village west of the city who raises a lot of chickens.”
“Really? Then let’s go! If we can’t find chicks, we’ll buy hens. They’ll still lay eggs, and hens can hatch their own chicks.”
“It’s a bit of a drive, though. I’ll hitch up the cart.” Wu Yinghai quickly left to prepare.
Soon, he returned with the cart ready, and the three of them—Zhaodi, Han Dongsheng, and Wu Yinghai—climbed aboard, heading for the village on the outskirts west of the city.
