With her father’s assurance, Su Qin was no longer worried about any penalty fees.
“What’s《City of Colors》, anyway? Just a trashy, low-level project. If they want to replace me, so be it. Once things calm down, Dad will invest in a big production for me and hire a cast to support me. I don’t believe people will still like that worthless Su Wan by then.”
《City of Colors》 had faced so many twists and turns that, without her to carry it, it would probably end up as a flop.
Let them regret it!
Hatred nearly overflowed from Su Qin’s heart.
She turned to Su Ming with an aggrieved look and said, “Dad, I’m sorry about your investment. I can’t be the lead actress anymore… I only wish I could pull out my investment like Auntie Su did.”
Su Qin’s words served as a reminder to Su Ming.
He snorted coldly and said, “If she dared to withdraw her investment for Su Wan, why shouldn’t I do the same for you? She won’t profit at my expense! If they still want to make the film, they can figure it out themselves.”
Excited at the thought of recovering his money immediately, Su Ming hurriedly called his assistant.
Technically, this mess was Su Qin’s fault, but since he was pulling the funds, the crew wouldn’t dare do anything against him.
After all, he was the head of the Su family—who would dare challenge him?
He’d consider the small loss he’d already incurred a friendly favor; after all, Su Ming didn’t lack for money.
Besides, the star was his daughter—who needed a salary?
Su Ming’s calculations were sharp as ever.
The next day.
Su Wan’s hospital room had an unexpected visitor: Director Meng.
Director Meng sipped warm water from a paper cup, and the two stared at each other.
Su Wan: “…If you have something to say, just say it. Staring at me is scary.”
“Ahem. This is my loving gaze!”
Director Meng tried to show a softer side, but when Su Wan called him out, he couldn’t help feeling a bit awkward. After a few forceful coughs, he dropped the act and resumed his usual blunt tone.
“So… your agent mentioned the situation, right?”
“Oh.”
Su Wan nodded.
“Don’t just nod—what do you think?” Director Meng had been in a frenzy the past few days, seeing months of hard work come close to collapsing. How could he accept it?
Reshooting with a new lead actress was out of the question.
Neither the time nor energy allowed for a complete redo. To say nothing of the budget—funds were already exhausted, the cast’s schedules were packed, and fan crowdfunding wasn’t going to cover much.
Switching leads wasn’t a simple fix.
So, Director Meng had thought of another plan.
“I talked with the editor all night, watched the footage again, and I think it might work.”
With no money to reshoot, he would have to patch it together, re-editing the entire story to make Su Wan’s supporting role the protagonist. Naturally, the tone of the story would change.
Su Wan thought about her scenes and fell silent. “Director, the lead character is a villain—will that even get approval?”
What’s the plot here?
A tragic story about an evil supporting character?
“You don’t get it. We’ll re-dub some lines, edit some scenes to highlight you, and use a stunt double for any missing shots. I just wanted to know if you’re willing to do it.”
Director Meng knew the project was essentially doomed, but he still wanted to salvage it.
Su Wan saw his rough, calloused fingers tapping against the paper cup, his hair unkempt and clearly stressed.
“It’s… not impossible.”
“Really, you’re willing?!”
Director Meng was both surprised and thrilled. He hadn’t expected Su Wan to agree to take on such a thankless task—it showed just how much trust she had in him and the editing team.
Listening in from nearby, Su Xiaoqing smiled and chimed in, “Actually, I have an idea that could help.”
