As expected, when Li Shujing inside the house heard this, she realized there were still many things left in the town.
“This damn girl actually kept it to herself,” Li Shujing cursed angrily, already thinking about how to get her hands on the food.
“Da Ya, go follow this girl tomorrow and make sure you watch where she puts her things. Then come back and tell me, understand?”
Da Ya referred to Yang Xiaoxiang.
Li Shujing had a plan. Yang Guoyao would likely send things to Yang Xiaoye again in the future and if she knew the location, she could snatch it first. After all, the town isn’t very safe and Yang Xiaoye couldn’t blame anyone if something went missing.
“Got it, Mom.” Yang Xiaoxiang wrapped her arm and responded viciously.
Just before Yang Xiaoye left, Grandma Yang pulled her over and began beating her without any reason. She had taken out all her anger from the day on Yang Xiaoxiang, leaving her so sore that she couldn’t even lift her arms.
Yang Xiaoxiang hated her family and of course, she blamed everything on Yang Xiaoye. If she hadn’t come back, she would have already been in the city and wouldn’t be suffering here.
Her mind twisted, she began thinking of ways to get rid of Yang Xiaoye. Maybe she should go to town tomorrow and find some hooligans to kidnap Yang Xiaoye. At worst, both sides would be destroyed. She wanted to see how Yang Xiaoye would survive in the old Yang family without those things.
Meanwhile, Yang Xiaoye had no idea what the eldest daughter-in-law was plotting. She went back to her room and fell asleep without even changing her clothes. She was simply too tired after the day’s work and the quarrel.
The next morning, after a good night’s rest, she was woken up early by Yang Xiaoyue.
“Sister Xiaoye, get up and have breakfast.”
Yang Xiaoyue stood by the kang with a bowl of porridge, hesitating to wake her.
They had agreed to eat separately, but since Yang Xiaoye had already given some food to the old Yang family, Grandma Yang wouldn’t stop them. So when Yang Xiaoyue came to serve breakfast, Grandma Yang didn’t stop her.
“Xiaoyue, I feel a little dizzy.”
Yang Xiaoye struggled to sit up, rubbing her head as she felt faint.
“Sister Xiaoye, your forehead feels a little hot. Were you tired yesterday?”
Yang Xiaoyue set the porridge down and touched Yang Xiaoye’s forehead, which was indeed warm.
Yang Xiaoye wasn’t sure if she was sick, but she definitely knew she was exhausted from yesterday.
“This body can’t handle much fatigue,” she thought. “I pushed myself too hard yesterday and now I’m paying for it.”
“Sister Xiaoye, why don’t you rest at home today?” Yang Xiaoyue asked worriedly.
“It’s fine. Brother Jiaqiang already asked for leave for both of us yesterday. It’s hard to change it now. I’ll just go get something and come back. It shouldn’t be a problem.”
After drinking the porridge that Yang Xiaoyue brought, Yang Xiaoye felt much better.
She struggled to get up and was relieved to find out she could still walk.
Yang Jiaqiang was already waiting for her outside.
When Yang Xiaoye came out, the expressions on the faces of the Yang family members were all different.
Grandma Yang and Li Shujing were resentful, while Yang Xiaoxiang looked jealous. The second wife was a little happier, as they had never gotten along with the first wife. Now that Xiaoye from the third wife was willing to be close to them, she’s became happy naturally.
“Let’s go, Brother Jiaqiang,” Yang Xiaoye said, not saying anything to anyone as she led the way out with Yang Jiaqiang.
After watching them leave, Li Shujing winked at Yang Xiaoxiang, signaling her to follow.
“Hey, where is Xiaoxiang going? She’s in a hurry. Is she going to work? Xiaoyue, don’t dawdle. Can’t you see that Big Sister is going to work? Hurry up and follow her.”
Seeing Yang Xiaoxiang trying to leave stealthily, Sun Juan immediately instructed her daughter to follow.
What a joke! Now it was their son going to get the things and they couldn’t let the eldest wife follow secretly.
“Oh, here it comes.”
Xiaoyue didn’t dare disobey Sun Juan’s order. She gulped down the porridge and immediately followed Yang Xiaoxiang.
Now, Yang Xiaoxiang had no way to follow the direction Yang Xiaoye was going.
“Second brother’s wife, Xiaoxiang has asked for leave today because of something, so she won’t be going to work.”
Li Shujing responded with a smile, but cursed several times in her heart.
‘Damn Sun Juan, the second wife’s son has already gone with them, why didn’t she let the first wife go as well? Does she want to keep everything for herself?’
“Oh, so that’s the case. After all, Xiaoxiang asks for leave every few days and her work points aren’t full every time. I’m used to it.” Sun Juan said indifferently and didn’t signal Xiaoyue to follow.
Li Shujing’s face turned dark and she cursed Sun Juan silently.
Meanwhile, Yang Xiaoxiang didn’t care what others said. She just stared in the direction where Yang Xiaoye had left. But after being interrupted by the second room, Yang Xiaoye and the other person had already disappeared.
It was fine, Yang Xiaoxiang comforted herself. She could just take a shortcut and borrow a bicycle to get to the town to block the road. They didn’t have a car anyway, so they would have to walk.
Yang Xiaoye turned a corner, but didn’t head toward the town.
Yang Jiaqiang, walking beside her, was stunned. He grabbed his incredibly pretty cousin and asked, “Xiaoye, isn’t this the way to town?”
“Yes, we’re not going to town today. Let’s go to the mountains.”
Yang Xiaoye nodded.
Qingshan Village is called Qingshan Village because, as the name suggests, it is surrounded by mountains on three sides and is very beautiful.
“Go to the mountain? Aren’t we going to get something?”
“Yeah, but this thing is not in town. I hid it in the mountains. I lied to them.”
The temperature outside wasn’t low now and there weren’t many people in the mountains. It was indeed a good place to hide things.
“Brother Jiaqiang, I am a little girl who has come here away from my parents. I always have to be careful.”
Yang Xiaoye lowered her voice a bit and spoke weakly.
After hearing these words, Yang Jiaqiang immediately thought of the theft yesterday. He clenched his palms and felt very unfair for his little cousin.
But since he was the younger generation in the family, with little influence, he couldn’t criticize the adults.
Still, his heart leaned toward Yang Xiaoye.
“Well, you did the right thing, very smart.”
Yang Jiaqiang praised her.
“But you still have to be careful where you hide things so they don’t get discovered. How about this, I’ll help you keep an eye on the people at the foot of the mountain and you go up there to get them. Call me when you can’t get them.”
Yang Jiaqiang suggested this so that he wouldn’t know where Yang Xiaoye hid the things.
His behavior is quite straightforward.
Yang Xiaoye never expected her second cousin to be so honest.
She smiled warmly and nodded.
“Okay then, cousin, please wait for me downstairs. I’ll be back soon.”
Yang Xiaoye is very satisfied. This way, she didn’t have to send Yang Jiaqiang away to get the things out.
The largest mountain in Qingshan Village is the one behind it. This mountain is vast and endless. Most people don’t know what the other side looks like.
There are very few people in the mountains and at this time, only children are picking some wild vegetables and fruits at the foot of the mountain to eat.
In the past, when people were hungry, some tried to go into the mountains to hunt. However, a few families went too far and were injured by bears.
Since then, few people dared to enter the mountains.
Yang Xiaoye said hiding in the mountains was just an excuse.
After bidding farewell to Yang Jiaqiang at the foot of the mountain, Yang Xiaoye only climbed for a short time before feeling too tired and stopped.
She didn’t know why, but she still felt dizzy. Also, some of the blisters on her feet that weren’t treated yesterday had rubbed off and some that weren’t broken were now hurting again.
Yang Xiaoye touched her head and found it even hotter, so she stopped moving forward.
She began organizing the space.
The chances of having her things searched when she went back were slim, but if people were greedy, there were definitely other ways to satisfy their cravings.
So, she took out a little less.
At most, she could come back to the mountain a few more times, which was better than having everything taken away at once.
Anyway, her things are in the space, so even if someone found out she was hiding things in the mountains, they wouldn’t be able to find them.
After thinking for a moment, Yang Xiaoye took out some flour to make noodles, rice, sausages, canned meat and a chicken to eat today. Along with eggs and necessary oil.
As for salt, sauce and vinegar, she just used those from Old Yang’s family. There wasn’t much left from Old Yang’s family anyway and she had given them food before.
While thinking, Yang Xiaoye felt even more dizzy. There was a tree nearby, so she tilted her head and planned to lean against it for a while.
“Don’t move.”
A hurried command came, which scared Yang Xiaoye.
“Who?”
Yang Xiaoye shouted but didn’t move.
“If you don’t want to die, don’t move. There’s a snake on the branch next to you.”
A deep, resonant voice came from behind her.
When Yang Xiaoye heard there was a snake, goosebumps ran down her back.
Cold sweat instantly broke out on her face.
But she couldn’t move, because if she did, the snake might come closer.
“Save me, please.”
Her voice trembled with fear and there was a hint of tears in it. Yang Xiaoye could only hope that the person telling her not to move was someone powerful.
She didn’t know how long it had been before she heard the sound of wind behind her.
It sounded like something was flying through the air.
Yang Xiaoye didn’t dare to move. Then, it felt like something had landed in her arms.
She lowered her head slightly and was almost scared to death.
“Snake! The snake is in my arms.”
Unable to bear it any longer, Yang Xiaoye threw the things in her arms into the air and subconsciously ran toward the sound, her eyes closed.
Bang!
She must have hit a tree. It was so hard that tears sprang from her eyes.
“Don’t worry, he’s dead.”
The person spoke slowly, his deep, magnetic voice soothing her.
Yang Xiaoye didn’t dare to open her eyes. She simply hugged the person in front of her who spoke and burst into tears.
“I’m scared to death. Wuuuaaaa! It’s so scary.”
Yang Xiaoye had never seen a snake in her life and she was so scared that she almost lost her senses.
The embrace was warm and broad. The movement of the person holding her made her feel somewhat safe in this strange embrace.
But before Yang Xiaoye could continue feeling comforted, she was picked up with one hand.
When she opened her eyes, she saw a shy and cold face with red ears.
Those handsome round eyes and firm jaw.
Isn’t it Gu Huai?
“Ahem.”
Gu Huai coughed uncomfortably, trying to forget the soft touch and the feminine scent that lingered around him.
“Comrade, please respect yourself.”
Yang Xiaoye stopped crying the moment she was picked up. When she opened her eyes, she saw that it was Gu Huai.
There was silence for three seconds and then she started crying even louder.
Ignoring what Gu Huai said, Yang Xiaoye rushed into his arms again.
“Hiks… Huhu.. Huwaaaaa”
Gu Huai: …
There was no way to communicate.
