Chapter 128: Awake

Chu Cheng raised his wrist and glanced at his watch.

He noticed that an hour had already passed by five minutes.

He sighed inwardly. The hope that had been ignited instantly extinguished, and his mood plummeted.

Thankfully, he hadn’t told his grandfather the news, otherwise, the old man would have been disappointed.

“Chu Cheng, I’ll go back to my office. If your brother shows any changes, let me know immediately.” The director’s words revealed his disappointment.

He had been hoping that Ling Yao could create a miracle and wake Chu Lie up. Now it seemed his expectations for Ling Yao were too high.

Chu Lie was in a vegetative state. Even doctors abroad were helpless. How could Ling Yao, a young girl who hadn’t even graduated from medical school, wake him up?

Liu Wenshan didn’t say anything. He followed the director towards the ward door. It seemed he had overestimated Ling Yao.

At this moment, none of the three people in the ward noticed that Chu Lie on the bed was slightly fluttering his eyelashes, as if he wanted to open his eyes.

Chu Cheng saw the director and Liu Wenshan out of the ward. He gently closed the door and then slowly walked back to the bedside with heavy steps.

When his gaze accidentally fell on Chu Lie on the bed, he felt as if he had been struck by lightning. His eyes widened, his face filled with disbelief.

“Brother! You… you woke up?” Chu Cheng’s voice trembled with excitement.

He stared intently at Chu Lie, afraid that this was just an illusion. Ling Yao had actually done it.

She had successfully woken his brother up! It was a miracle! Ling Yao was amazing! He had to thank her properly.

Chu Lie had just woken up from his long coma. His consciousness was still a little hazy. He slowly turned his head, trying to figure out where he was.

“I… where am I?” Chu Lie’s voice was weak, like a candle in the wind, about to extinguish.

Chu Cheng reached out and took Chu Lie’s hand. His eyes were red as he said, “Brother, this is the hospital.

You’ve been asleep for over a month. We were worried sick. Now that you’re finally awake, it’s great!”

Chu Lie closed his eyes and recalled what had happened. Images of the harrowing battle and his severe injuries flashed through his mind.

At that time, he thought he would never wake up again, never see his family again.

“Brother, don’t think too much. Just rest and recover.”

Chu Lie nodded slightly.

“I’ll go call grandpa and tell him the good news.” With that, Chu Cheng rushed out of the ward like a gust of wind.

In the office, the director and Liu Wenshan sat facing each other. They were discussing Ling Yao.

Before, they had indeed placed great importance on Ling Yao, hoping that she could wake Chu Lie up.

If she could do it, they would do their best to recommend her to join the Medical Association.

They knew that those who could join the Medical Association were all top-notch doctors and masters in the country.

If Ling Yao was lucky enough to join, her future medical achievements would surely reach new heights.

The director took a sip of tea and said leisurely, “Ling Yao’s medical skills are indeed outstanding, but she’s still young and a little impetuous.

She needs to go through some tempering before she can become a great doctor.”

Liu Wenshan nodded in agreement, “Yes, she’s still too young. She needs to be tempered for a few more years.”

At this moment, a crisp and hurried knock on the door suddenly sounded.

Then, Chu Cheng, his face beaming with joy, excitedly pushed open the door and walked in.

“Director! Old Liu! My brother woke up!” Chu Cheng couldn’t hide his joy and excitement. His voice trembled with excitement.

“What did you say?!” Hearing this, the director and Liu Wenshan were astonished.

Their faces showed disbelief. They wondered if they had heard wrong.

They looked at each other and then back at Chu Cheng, hoping to get confirmation from him.

Chu Cheng nodded vigorously, “My brother really woke up! His consciousness has returned!

I just talked to him. I’m going to call my grandpa and tell him the good news!”

With that, Chu Cheng couldn’t wait to walk to the desk, pick up the phone, and dial his home number.

The director and Liu Wenshan exchanged glances, stood up, and quickly walked out of the office.

They had to see it for themselves; otherwise, they wouldn’t believe it was true.

When they arrived at the ward, the director and Liu Wenshan saw Chu Lie lying in bed with his eyes open, looking out the window.

Hearing someone enter, Chu Lie turned his gaze away from the window and looked at the two of them.

He nodded slightly at them. He recognized the director, but this was the first time he had seen Liu Wenshan.

“Regiment Commander Chu, how are you feeling now? Is there anything uncomfortable?”

The director asked excitedly. A miracle, truly a miracle!

Chu Lie shook his head, “I just don’t have much strength…”

Liu Wenshan walked to the bedside, his voice slightly trembling with excitement, “Let me take your pulse.”

Chu Lie nodded slightly.

Liu Wenshan gently placed his hand on Chu Lie’s wrist, carefully feeling his pulse.

After just a few seconds, a look of ecstatic joy appeared on his face, “You’re doing very well now.

You’ll be fine if you rest for a while.” This was truly a miracle! Ling Yao was incredible. She had actually cleared all the blockages in Chu Lie’s meridians.

Chu Lie nodded, “Thank you…” He also noticed that his condition was gradually improving since he woke up.

Before, he could barely move his head, but now he could move freely.

“Don’t thank me. Ling Yao is the one who cured you. You should thank her.” Liu Wenshan said with a smile.

He would go find Ling Yao later. He had already decided that he would introduce Ling Yao to the Medical Association. A talent with such outstanding medical skills like Ling Yao was rare.

She absolutely couldn’t be buried.

“Ling Yao?” Chu Lie seemed to have heard that name somewhere.

“Brother, I’ve already called grandpa and told him the good news about you waking up. He, Uncle, Aunt, and my parents are on their way.”

Chu Cheng walked into the ward with a happy smile on his face. When he told his grandfather the good news, his grandfather cried with joy.

When his grandfather and the others arrived, he would take them to thank Ling Yao. If it weren’t for her, his brother didn’t know when he would have woken up.

Liu Wenshan and the director checked on Chu Lie for a few moments and then left the ward. They planned to find Ling Yao.

Ling Yao and Lu Qingyun were having dinner when they heard a knock on the door. They turned their heads and saw the director and Liu Wenshan.

“Director! Old Liu!” Ling Yao put down her lunchbox and stood up to greet them. At the same time, she had already guessed why they were here.
