Chen Dudu was currently sitting cross-legged on the soft sleeper berth of a train, gnawing on duck necks.
Across from her was her ex-boyfriend, whom she had broken up with just two months ago.
The duck necks were so spicy that Chen Dudu was reduced to a sniffling, teary mess. She didn’t want to cry, but it was too spicy, and she couldn’t help but sniffle and slurp at the same time.
The man across from her watched with a furrowed brow, his eyes filled with what seemed to be… disgust.
If she had known her ex would be sitting across from her, she wouldn’t have rushed to eat duck necks as soon as she got on the train.
Just a few minutes earlier, she was eating duck necks and looking at her phone. When she noticed that the person across from her was also a male college student, she eagerly looked up to see his face.
You could say that male college students were most abundant on trains during the start of the school year and summer vacations. She saw that the person on the opposite berth had a tall and straight figure, with legs so long they seemed to reach the sky.
Full of anticipation to see a handsome guy, she looked up, only to find that it was her ex-boyfriend of over a year, whom she had broken up with due to his cold and violent behavior—Shen Gengli.
Her hopes of seeing a handsome guy were dashed, and she lowered her head to continue playing with her phone.
Shen Gengli sat down across from her.
He was too tall, and even sitting down, his long legs couldn’t stretch out fully. Although he was on the lower berth, he was too tall and had to hunch over uncomfortably.
Shen Gengli decided to lie down and read a book instead.
But even reading was uncomfortable, as the space was too small and he had to keep his legs bent.
As the train departed, Chen Dudu, due to the spiciness of the duck necks, made ugly gasping sounds, which were seen clearly by Shen Gengli across from her.
How embarrassing, to make such ugly faces in front of her ex, with whom she had an unpleasant breakup.
Chen Dudu quickly took a sip of water to calm down and looked at Shen Gengli across from her.
Suddenly, she thought of something.
“Wait, Shen Gengli, why are you also on this train? Isn’t this train going to the capital? No way, no way! You also got into a university in the capital?”
Shen Gengli didn’t even bother to acknowledge her. Hearing her words, he turned his back to her and continued reading his book.
So cold!
Chen Dudu: “…”
She shouldn’t have initiated a conversation with him!
Too embarrassing!
This wasn’t the first time she had seen his cold demeanor.
Chen Dudu thought, with his high IQ, always ranking first in his class, it was natural for him to go to a prestigious university like Tsinghua.
But what surprised her was that a rich young master like Shen Gengli would take a green-skinned train?
Although it was a soft sleeper, he was someone who always traveled by plane in first class. Why would he choose a green-skinned train?
Chen Dudu really couldn’t understand the thought process of rich people.
Maybe it was to experience life.
For normal people, it was: 100 ways to love yourself.
For rich young masters like him, it was probably: 100 ways to experience being poor.
Once, out of curiosity, Shen Gengli wore one of her thick, long, pink winter pajamas. That night, he had a severe allergic reaction, developed a rash, went to the hospital, and almost seemed like he was going to die.
The doctor’s diagnosis was: an allergic reaction to the cheap fabric.
For her, it was utterly humiliating!
……
Chen Dudu and Shen Gengli had been on the train for several hours. Apart from the initial cold and ignored conversation, they hadn’t spoken, which was typical for them.
Chen Dudu finished eating her duck necks.
It was lunchtime, so Chen Dudu took out her Old Jar Pickled Vegetable Beef Instant Noodles to prepare.
On a train, instant noodles and sausages were essential.
She looked at Shen Gengli sitting across from her, who had brought nothing.
The train to the capital took over 30 hours.
Without instant noodles, he would starve!
“You didn’t bring any instant noodles, did you? You’re going to starve,” she asked genuinely.
The young master who had been lying down reading finally put down his book, sat up, and opened his noble mouth to say, “I checked. The train sells boxed meals.”
The train’s food… boxed meals, he still didn’t understand his own stomach.
The young master’s dog ate meals prepared by a five-star hotel!
Chen Dudu returned with her prepared instant noodles, and Shen Gengli had bought a boxed meal.
The young master looked at the unappetizing boxed meal and didn’t know where to start.
Chen Dudu returned with her instant noodles and saw him take a bite of the dish, his expression suddenly changing due to the bad taste.
He elegantly spat it out with a tissue.
Chen Dudu slurped her instant noodles.
Delicious.
Shen Gengli looked at her eating the instant noodles.
The smell was indeed much better than his boxed meal.
He didn’t expect the boxed meal to be so unpalatable.
It was hard to swallow.
Chen Dudu looked up and saw Shen Gengli’s gaze, filled with longing, hunger, and pleading.
But he wouldn’t ask for help.
So, he couldn’t say anything.
This was the perfect opportunity to make money.
Chen Dudu handed him another pack of Old Jar Pickled Vegetable Beef Instant Noodles and showed him her payment QR code, “200 yuan per pack, good stuff is expensive.”
Shen Gengli scanned and paid her 200 yuan.
Just as the payment succeeded, a dining car attendant pushed a cart past, advertising, “Instant noodles. 10 yuan per pack.”
Shen Gengli: “…”
Chen Dudu: “…”
Chen Dudu felt a bit guilty for overcharging him and helped him prepare the instant noodles.
Shen Gengli had probably never eaten these before and wouldn’t know how to prepare them.
She took the instant noodles and returned with them prepared, giving them to Shen Gengli to eat.
Shen Gengli had never eaten this kind of food before and watched Chen Dudu eat, mimicking her.
The taste was definitely better than the boxed meal.
But only slightly.
Chen Dudu saw him accepting it and jokingly said, “It’s good, right? This pickled vegetable is made by the auntie stepping on it with her feet, that’s how it’s authentic. If it’s not made by stepping on it, I won’t eat it.”
Shen Gengli: “…”
Shen Gengli had just taken a bite of the pickled vegetable and, hearing this, felt his stomach churn. He rushed to the bathroom to vomit.
Chen Dudu: “…”
……
Over the next several dozen hours, Shen Gengli didn’t speak to her and also… didn’t eat anything.
When he was hungry, he just drank water.
Chen Dudu had explained to him that the pickled vegetables weren’t made by stepping on them with feet, and he could eat them without worry, but Shen Gengli didn’t believe her anymore.
But it was understandable; “ex” was one of the most vicious words in the world, indeed not to be trusted.
After getting off the train, Chen Dudu prepared to take the subway to her university to report.
She checked the route; there was a direct line from the train station to her university.
Chen Dudu was looking at her phone for the route map when she noticed that Shen Gengli was actually following her.
Wherever she went, east or west, Shen Gengli followed.
He kept following her, making her feel a bit creeped out.
Chen Dudu stopped and turned to look at the man behind her, angrily asking, “Shen Gengli, why are you following me?”
Shen Gengli, standing much taller than her, looked down at her and said, “I’m also going to A University. You’re going there too, so we’re going the same way.”
“You’re also going to A University? You applied to A University?”
Shen Gengli didn’t say anything, but his expression clearly indicated that he thought she was stupid for not understanding.
Chen Dudu felt something was off, really off.
Was his going to A University related to him following her on the subway now?
“Are you also taking the subway there?”
Shen Gengli nodded.
Chen Dudu understood and suddenly realized, “I knew something was off when you took the green-skinned train. And now you’re taking the subway with me. Did your family go bankrupt? How did it happen so suddenly? You’re reduced to this state now. I told you not to spend money so recklessly, but you didn’t listen. Now you have no money!”
Shen Gengli: “…”
“But what about Xiao Cai? It grew up with you in luxury, eating top-grade Wagyu beef and ostrich eggs. Now that you’re bankrupt, won’t it have to eat dog food? How pitiful.”
Shen Gengli looked at her genuinely concerned expression and was both amused and annoyed, “You curse me, but you’re concerned about a dog?”
