DLSRWAR Chapter 3 He was going to find his wife.
Qin Yumian had a bizarre talent for card games—no, it was more like she had unnaturally good luck.
Having lost four out of five rounds, Yang Mao couldn’t continue. He threw his cards across the table and said, “Sports rep, if your luck could be used for answering questions, you’d definitely be the top student in our class.”
Qin Yumian pulled the comic book out of her desk and asked, “Do you want to put my photo on the wall and pray to it every day?”
Yang Mao’s eyes lit up. “That’s a good idea.”
Before he could say more, a sharp voice cut through the room with irritation—
“Qin Yumian, are you leading everyone in playing cards in the classroom again? Get out and stand in the hallway!”
When her name was called, Qin Yumian’s expression remained unchanged as she picked up her comic book and walked out of the classroom without a word.
Chen Lanping continued to berate her from behind. “Not only are you failing to study yourself, but you’re also leading others astray. The atmosphere in our class is being ruined by you and your troublemaking friends!”
Zhao Qian, unable to tolerate Chen Lanping’s insults towards the sports rep, stood up. “I was the one who started it. I’ll stand outside too.”
Yang Mao grabbed his game console and followed. “Me too.”
Chen Lanping was furious and rolled her eyes. Unlike Qin Yumian and Yang Mao, Zhao Qian’s father was a prominent figure in Sangcheng, making it impossible for Chen Lanping to openly criticize him.
So, she directed all her frustration and dissatisfaction with her transfer at Qin Yumian, who had no significant family background.
Harsh, demeaning words filled the hallway, with Chen Lanping even mentioning Qin Yumian’s deceased parents.
“Children raised without parents are just rotten wood. It’s strange; your father was such a good man, yet you turned out to be such a troublemaker. And your delinquent brother—fighting, stealing—he must have inherited all that from your shameless mother!”
Chen Lanping’s face twisted with disgust and mockery as she spoke.
Qin Yumian stood quietly against the wall, her face showing no emotion.
Yang Mao muttered under his breath, “Damn, is her mouth from a cesspit?”
It was foul and filthy.
Zhao Qian, used to being arrogant, impatiently shouted into the classroom, “Teacher, are you going to teach or not?”
Chen Lanping fell silent, clearly frustrated.
Yang Mao leaned closer to Qin Yumian and whispered, “Sports rep, how about we go and puncture the tires on her electric bike after class?”
Qin Yumian didn’t react much. She simply gave him a glance and said, “Don’t forget to run around the sports field shouting ‘Dad’.”
Yang Mao: “…”
Yang Mao’s enthusiasm deflated instantly.
Yet, he couldn’t help but admire Qin Yumian’s remarkable composure. Despite Chen Lanping’s repeated provocations, she managed to endure it all.
Yang Mao thought: Is the sports rep a reincarnation of some Ninja Turtle?
In the afternoon, as school let out, Chen Lanping was busy contacting an old colleague at the education bureau while walking toward the parking lot.
“Sister, do you remember me? It’s Ah Ping. Are you busy these days? Let’s find a time to have a meal together,” Chen Lanping spoke into her phone with a beaming smile. As she pulled out her car keys and looked up, her smile froze, replaced by a surge of rage.
The rear tire of her electric bike had been mysteriously removed!
The parking lot was soon filled with the woman’s angry curses.
Qin Yumian stood in a dim corner, holding a wrench with greasy hands. Listening to Chen Lanping’s shrill, foul-mouthed tirade like a shrew, she calmly dusted off her hands.
It was time to head back to make lunch.
And maybe drop by the internet café to catch that little rascal.
As Qin Yumian walked toward the bus stop, she wondered: Which leg of the little rascal should she break first?
…
Ye Hancheng’s head injury was not serious, and he was discharged from the hospital on the third day.
Qiu Gaotiao, a childhood friend, came over to visit. He stared at the white bandage on his head and asked with concern, “Chengzi, is your head alright?”
“It’s fine.” Ye Hancheng lifted his feet and propped them up on the coffee table, taking a bite of a clean apple. “What’s up?”
“Since you’ve had a head injury, the guys and I are throwing a little party to celebrate your discharge.”
“Where’s the party?” Ye Hancheng added, “No bars or brothels.”
“Why? Is big brother Ye not allowing you to go?”
“It’s my wife who’s not allowing it.”
Qiu Gaotiao was momentarily stunned by what his childhood friend had said, then burst into laughter, nearly falling off the sofa. “Hahahaha… Chengzi, did your head get damaged? You’re a virgin who doesn’t even have a girlfriend, where did you get a wife from?”
Among their circle of wealthy childhood friends, many had started dating girls as early as fifteen or sixteen, including Qiu Gaotiao. Ye Hancheng, however, had reached eighteen without even holding a girl’s hand.
It was often said in their circle that Ye Hancheng’s elder brother was very strict, not allowing him to fool around, which is why he had managed to stay a virgin.
Ye Hancheng’s realization hit him as his childhood friend laughed. He didn’t have a wife at the moment.
He didn’t need to quit smoking, drinking, or indulging in fun for his wife.
“Chengzi, are you thinking about dating? I know quite a few pretty girls. Want me to introduce one to you?” Qiu Gaotiao teased with a playful wink.
Ye Hancheng firmly declined. “No need.”
He had a wife.
Qiu Gaotiao was just joking and had no intention of actually introducing anyone to Ye Hancheng.
With a grin, Qiu Gaotiao nudged Ye Hancheng’s shoulder. “Seven o’clock tonight, at Baimen Club. Are you coming, Second Young Master Ye?”
Ye ‘currently single’ Hancheng, replied, “I’ll go.”
Now that he was single, it was the perfect time to enjoy himself. Once he had a wife, he would have to change his ways.
Thus, Second Young Master Ye, who had returned to being eighteen and single, embarked on a carefree and liberating single life.
He could stay out late at bars and clubs without anyone caring, come home to late-night snacks made by the housekeeper, and sleep in a soft, big bed.
Life was simply… exhilarating!
However, after several days, as he lay in bed feeling the emptiness beside him, Ye Hancheng couldn’t help but feel a pang of loneliness.
Waking up every day to an empty bed, he found himself missing the days when he used to wake up with his wife in his arms.
His wife was beautiful, with a faint fragrance always surrounding her. Her body was soft, her skin smooth and delicate; a little pressure would instantly redden her fair skin. She was also prone to crying, especially when he was “bullying” her—her tearful and shy appearance…
The more Ye Hancheng thought about it, the lonelier and colder he felt at that moment. He even noticed something under the covers slowly lifting its head.
Ye Hancheng: “…Fuck!”
He quickly threw off the covers and got out of bed, hurrying into the bathroom. Soon, the sound of the shower filled the room.
…
“Chengzi, are you sure your head isn’t damaged?” As soon as Ye Hancheng answered the phone, he heard Qiu Gaotiao’s concerned voice on the other end.
Ye Hancheng’s expression hardened. “No, it’s fine.”
Qiu Gaotiao continued, “But why are you going to some obscure little town for a vacation? Why not somewhere more well-known?”
“I’m happy to.”
Qiu Gaotiao: “…”
“Alright then, since I have nothing better to do, I’ll come with you!” Qiu Gaotiao declared, slapping the table.
Ye Hancheng: “…”
He was going to find his wife. Why are you tagging along and making a fuss?
