Chapter 177: The Outcome
Old Lady Zhang lay on the ground like a puddle of mud, motionless.
The wives who had come to watch the commotion looked at each other, none of them daring to step forward and help Old Lady Zhang up.
After a long time, two wives walked over and helped Old Lady Zhang up from the ground.
At this moment, Old Lady Zhang’s mind was still in a mess. She couldn’t understand why Ma Meifang, who had always been submissive and meek, had suddenly changed her personality and even dared to hit her.
Meanwhile, Ma Meifang took her three daughters to the military guesthouse.
When they walked into the room that Ling Yao had booked for them, they were amazed and opened their mouths wide. This room was like heaven compared to the one they had lived in before.
Da Ni’s eyes widened, her face full of surprise, “Mom, this room is so big! Are we going to live here forever?”
Er Ni couldn’t wait to pounce on the soft and comfortable bed, rolling around, “Wow, this bed is so soft! It feels so good to sleep on it!”
San Ni pulled on Ma Meifang’s sleeve, blinking her innocent big eyes, and asked expectantly, “Mom, are we never going back home?”
Looking at the blooming smiles on Da Ni, Er Ni, and San Ni’s faces, a hint of relief gradually appeared on Ma Meifang’s weathered face, “That’s right. We’re never going back to that house. We’ll have our own new life from now on.”
At this moment, she realized how foolish she had been. She had almost ruined her own life and even dragged her daughters into suffering.
“That’s great! We won’t be beaten by Grandma and Dad anymore.”
“Mom, will we never be hungry again?”
“Will we not have to do laundry, cook, and do housework every day?”
Looking at her three daughters, Ma Meifang’s eyes gradually turned red. She reached out and gently rubbed San Ni’s hair, her eyes full of love and determination, “Yes, we won’t be beaten anymore.
Mom will also send you to school.” No matter what difficulties and challenges she faced in the future, she would try her best to give her daughters a warm home and send them to school. She wanted knowledge to change their future.
“That’s great! We can go to school, hahaha…” Da Ni, Er Ni, and San Ni exclaimed excitedly, jumping up and down.
The whole room was filled with laughter.
Ling Yao was sleeping soundly when she suddenly felt a soft, wet touch on her forehead.
She struggled to open her sleepy eyes, her vision gradually clearing. Before her was Lu Qingyun’s handsome face, with sharp features, like a god.
She lazily stretched out her arms, wrapped them around Lu Qingyun’s neck, and gently rubbed her cheek against his neck, saying softly, “You’re back… How did things go with Zhang Huzi…”
Lu Qingyun gently stroked Ling Yao’s hair, “The investigation is complete. The higher-ups have decided to revoke Zhang Huzi’s position and have him discharged and return to his hometown.” Lu Qingyun told Ling Yao the entire outcome in detail.
Ling Yao smiled in satisfaction, “Serves him right!” That scumbag deserved this outcome.
“There’s one more thing. I have an important mission tomorrow. This trip will be longer than usual, probably about half a month. If you feel bored living in the family quarters, you can go back to Mom’s house for a while. Yaoyao, I’m really sorry…”
Ling Yao reached out and gently pressed her fingertip against Lu Qingyun’s lips, stopping his next words. She smiled and shook her head, looking at him seriously, “I understand. I just hope you can return safely.
That’s more important than anything else.” She knew the responsibilities and missions her husband, as a soldier, had to shoulder. When she decided to marry him, she had already prepared herself mentally to face all kinds of difficulties and separations.
“I will return safely.” Lu Qingyun held Ling Yao’s hand, lowered his head, and lightly kissed her lips with a touch of doting. His eyes revealed a hint of reluctance.
Ling Yao woke up again. The sky outside was already bright, and Lu Qingyun was no longer in bed. She felt a slight sense of loss.
She sat up and went to the bathroom to wash up. She planned to go to the guesthouse and see Ma Meifang and her daughters later.
After washing up, she went to the kitchen and opened the pot lid. She found that breakfast was being kept warm inside. A faint smile appeared on Ling Yao’s lips, and her heart was filled with sweetness.
Ma Meifang heard a knock on the door. Thinking it was Ling Yao, she went to open it.
When she saw Zhang Huzi and Old Lady Zhang outside, her face turned pale with fear. She quickly tried to close the door.
But it was too late. Zhang Huzi pushed the door open.
Ma Meifang could only watch helplessly as Zhang Huzi and Old Lady Zhang barged into the room.
Zhang Huzi glared at Ma Meifang fiercely, his eyes flashing with a ferocious light, as if he was going to devour her alive, “Do you know how miserable you’ve made me?”
Zhang Huzi questioned Ma Meifang through gritted teeth, his voice filled with anger and resentment. If it wasn’t for her, how would he have been dismissed? How would he have been discharged? It was all her fault.
“Th… that’s… that’s because you deserved it…” Ma Meifang trembled her lips, trying to keep her voice from completely breaking.
Zhang Huzi grabbed Ma Meifang’s hair and slapped her face, “You won’t let me live in peace. You think I’ll let you live in peace?”
“Mom!” Da Ni, Er Ni, and San Ni saw this and ran over to help Ma Meifang, but they were stopped by Old Lady Zhang.
Old Lady Zhang glared at the three girls fiercely, “Behave yourselves, or I’ll have your father sell you.” They would be leaving the family quarters soon anyway. Then, she would find a human trafficker and sell these three money-losing daughters. As for Ma Meifang, she had made her son suffer so much. Today, they wouldn’t let her get away with it.
Ling Yao arrived at the guesthouse.
The guesthouse attendant saw Ling Yao and quickly ran to her, “Sister Lu, it’s not good. Sister Meifang’s husband and mother-in-law are here. They’re beating Sister Meifang upstairs.”
Hearing this, Ling Yao’s face changed. She quickly ran upstairs.
From afar, Ling Yao could hear Ma Meifang’s screams and the cries of her three children. A piercing chill ran through her eyes. It seemed that the lesson for Zhang Huzi wasn’t enough.
Walking into the room, Ling Yao pulled Zhang Huzi away from Ma Meifang, who was being beaten. Then, her fists rained down on Zhang Huzi like hailstones.
“Ah~” Zhang Huzi screamed in pain.
Ma Meifang curled up on the ground in pain, looking at Zhang Huzi with hatred in her eyes. Why wouldn’t he let them, mother and daughter, go?
She glanced at a fruit knife on the table nearby, and a look of determination flashed in her eyes.
