Chapter 110
Feeling his breath on her cheek, Shen Yu leaned back slightly, staring into his eyes and asking, “What’s wrong with you today?”
Xie Tingzhou was startled, but Shen Yu had already reached out and covered his forehead, then touched her own forehead.
She mumbled, “It feels like I’m the one with the fever, and your brain is the one that’s gone bad.”
Xie Tingzhou: “…”
He stepped back slightly and listened for a moment. Outside, there were sounds of Changliu and the doctor talking.
He called out, “Let the doctor come in and check her pulse.”
The bed curtains fell back down. Shen Yu reached out from under the gauze curtain and let the doctor check her pulse.
The gauze curtain was semi-transparent, and she stared at Xie Tingzhou’s shadow on the curtain, lost in thought.
Actually, just now, her heart had raced uncontrollably for a moment. It took a lot of effort to calm herself down.
He had been born into a position of power, and the Crown Prince had plenty of time and energy to indulge in his whims. But she had so much to do.
“It’s good that the internal fire has burned out. Now, judging from the pulse, she’s much better. But she still needs to be careful afterwards. She shouldn’t be exposed to the wind in the next few days, to prevent the wind from entering her body and causing a relapse. Are there any other parts of your body that are uncomfortable?”
Shen Yu was brought back to her senses by the doctor’s words, “No, I just feel a little tired in my bones.”
“That shouldn’t be,” the doctor frowned and thought for a moment, “This symptom is a little strange.”
“It’s not strange.” Xie Tingzhou said nonchalantly, “She can’t stop moving. If she doesn’t jump around for a day, her bones will be tired.”
Through the curtain, Shen Yu glared at him fiercely. She didn’t know if Xie Tingzhou had noticed.
The doctor also smiled and got up, “She just recovered from her illness, so she needs to take things gradually. I’ll prescribe some more medicine to help her recover.”
As soon as the doctor left, Shen Yu said she wanted to go back to Lumingxuan.
She was occupying Xie Tingzhou’s bed, and she didn’t even dare to ask where he had been sleeping these past few days.
Xie Tingzhou didn’t keep her, but he asked her to go to his study after she washed up.
Shen Yu changed her clothes and tied her hair up again. She looked a little more energetic, but her complexion was still not good.
As she walked out of Xie Tingzhou’s bedroom, she saw Changliu under a tree digging for ants.
Shen Yu waved to him and asked Changliu to come over.
“What?” Changliu looked up, his face full of resentment, like a child who wasn’t getting any attention.
Shen Yu walked over and squatted down beside him, handing him a plate of snacks she had specially brought out.
Changliu looked at it, swallowed, and didn’t take it.
“Isn’t this your favorite?”
“Do you have some kind of scheme?” Changliu asked.
Shen Yu patted his head and said, “Who said you’ve fallen out of favor? Everyone loves you, and I love you too.”
Changliu then pouted and took it. Looking at Shen Yu’s back as she got up and left, he suddenly realized that Shi Yu was only a year older than him. Why did she treat him like a child?
So he shouted from behind, “Shi Yu, you’re taking advantage of me!”
Shen Yu stepped into Xie Tingzhou’s study. She had been here many times and was not unfamiliar with it.
Xie Tingzhou stood behind the desk. He looked up at her when he heard her voice, then lowered his eyes again, “Come and take a look.”
Shen Yu walked over. On the desk was a portrait. It was upside down and she couldn’t see it clearly, so she walked around to Xie Tingzhou’s side.
“Who is this?”
Xie Tingzhou looked at the portrait and said, “The old man that Sanfu mentioned. This is a portrait drawn by a painter based on Sanfu’s description.”
Of the four people who came from Qichang Prefecture, three had died, leaving only an old man who was nowhere to be found. That old man must be suspicious, and he might be a breakthrough.
Shen Yu stared at the portrait for a long time, shaking her head, “I haven’t seen him, but we can ask the staff at Lu’s shop to recognize him.”
Xie Tingzhou nodded.
Lu’s shop was spread all over Da Zhou, and her eyes were everywhere, which made things much easier.
…
Shen Yu wanted to move back to Lumingxuan, but the biggest opposition came from Zhong Bo.
After a lot of persuasion, he still insisted on giving her a few maidservants.
Shen Yu didn’t want any of them. Now that Lu Yao was back, Lu Yao and Er’ya were enough. Besides, more people would make things less convenient.
As the sun went down, it gradually got dark.
Lu Yao and Er’ya had both gone to sleep.
When the third gong sounded, Shen Yu got out of bed and took out a set of night clothes from the back of the cabinet and put them on.
She hid short daggers in her waist and boots, and the sleeping drug in her pouch was for emergencies.
After getting everything ready and making sure she hadn’t forgotten anything, Shen Yu pushed open the window and jumped onto the roof with a light step.
There was no one guarding the Prince’s Mansion at night. She knew the guard change schedule very well.
Dressed in night clothes, she blended into the night, like a ghost, avoiding the guards on duty in a few steps and climbing over the walls of the Prince’s Mansion.
“Your Highness guessed right, Shi Yu really came out from here.”
Shen Yu was just climbing over the wall when she suddenly heard this sentence. When she landed, she almost lost her footing.
She leaned against the wall and looked at the pitch-black alley. There were shadowy figures there, and then a light came on.
The guards lined up in a row, a dozen or so of them, with stern expressions, looking like they were catching a thief.
Xie Tingzhou stood in the middle, wearing a dark blue robe. The cloud patterns on the edge of the robe were illuminated by the lanterns, making him truly look like a peerless individual.
But Shen Yu had no time to admire him at the moment.
She was thinking about how she was so unlucky to be caught red-handed by Xie Tingzhou. And she was also thinking about how big the Prince’s Mansion was, how could he guess that she would come out from here?
Was he a worm in her stomach?
Xie Tingzhou stared at her intently. After a while, he took a step forward.
Shen Yu was on high alert. Before he could speak, she took the initiative, “You don’t need to persuade me. Ge Liangji will be executed tomorrow. I have to go. If I use all my strength, these brothers might not be able to stop me.”
Xie Tingzhou’s face was unpleasant, “Do you think Ge Liangji will talk? Since he insisted on taking all the blame in the court, why would he easily open his mouth now?”
“We have to try,” Shen Yu said seriously, “We have to try so we won’t regret it.”
She was the kind of person who wouldn’t turn back until she hit a wall. Xie Tingzhou knew that even if Ge Liangji didn’t speak, she would do her best. But if she didn’t go, she would always be thinking about it.
Just like the words he had told her, she only sought a clear conscience.
Xie Tingzhou sighed softly and stopped in front of her.
“How are you going to go?” His tone was slightly heavy, “You’re going to break into Dali Temple at night. You know Ge Liangji is imprisoned there now. How many more people has Dali Temple sent to guard him?”
Shen Yu said, “I’ll give it a try. I have a way to get out safely.”
Xie Tingzhou’s jaw tightened, “What way?”
Shen Yu didn’t say anything.
Xie Tingzhou took a deep breath and lowered his voice, “When… when will you learn to trust me?”
Shen Yu suddenly looked up. He was standing against the light, and she couldn’t see his expression, but she could hear his anger, even a hint of helplessness and disappointment.
Shen Yu bit her lower lip, but her mind was still clear. “It’s getting late. I have to go early. We… we’ll talk about it when we get back, okay?”
She finally softened and pleaded with him.
Xie Tingzhou lowered his eyes and glanced at her. In the darkness, a carriage came towards them, its wheels making a rhythmic sound.
