Chapter 19: The Beauty Cream Goes Viral
At the scheduled time, as agreed upon with her second aunt Rong Qing, the beauty cream was officially launched for sale. Before the sale, Mu Rong Shu held a small ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Old Master Rong had the servants set off two long strings of firecrackers and even invited a lion dance troupe. The invited guests for the ribbon-cutting found it all quite novel, and soon a crowd gathered around, eager to watch.
Once people began asking around, they learned that it was the new beauty cream from Silver Phoenix Tower, and by midday, everyone on the street knew about it.
After the lunch break, Mu Si brought his colleagues over. After being constantly shown off by Mu Si, his colleagues were extremely curious. Wen Ye also came along, not because he wanted to accompany Mu Si, but because everyone else was attending, and if he didn’t come, he’d appear out of place.
Fortunately, Old Master Rong had arranged for more people to help, otherwise, it would have been impossible to handle the crowd. After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Mu Rong Shu didn’t have a moment to rest. Even Song Wei and Ming Shu joined in to help entertain the visiting ladies.
Liu Ru Yan and Song Yan Ran were also kept busy, and they never imagined so many people would show up. Now, they were somewhat regretting inviting some of their friends, fearing that Mu Rong Shu’s business wouldn’t do well.
Each lady or young miss who came to buy the beauty cream received a thorough pulse check from Mu Rong Shu, followed by a recommendation for the most suitable beauty cream.
For some special cases, Mu Rong Shu even suggested customized treatments. As a healer, she also discreetly informed some ladies about their underlying health issues.
As a result, many of the ladies not only bought the beauty cream but also approached Song Wei to build a relationship, hoping to have Mu Rong Shu examine their hidden ailments in the future. Song Wei made a note of all their requests and said she would consult her daughter before extending any invitations.
For Mu Rong Shu’s second uncle Mu Si’s colleagues, she also recommended suitable beauty creams based on their descriptions.
As for her cousins’ friends, Mu Rong Shu either directly recommended products or suggested they have their mothers, sisters, or younger sisters come in person for better results.
Wen Jing’s two sisters-in-law each bought a lot of the beauty cream, some for themselves and others as gifts for their family members.
When Mu Rong Shu took the pulse of Wen Jing’s second sister-in-law, she noticed irregularities in her menstrual cycle. Casually, she asked, “How long have you and Wen Ye been married?”
Caught off guard by the question, Wen Er’s wife didn’t think much of it and answered with some concern, “It’s been three years since we married.”
“I noticed an underlying health issue during your pulse check, which might affect conception. It will require some adjustment,” Mu Rong Shu replied thoughtfully, unsure of how much her answer would be accepted in ancient times.
“Miss Mu, do you have a way to help?” Wen Er’s wife asked eagerly.
Mu Rong Shu nodded, “I’ve initially determined the symptoms, but further examination will be necessary.”
“As long as there’s a chance to get better, I’m willing to do any examination,” Wen Er’s wife said, and tears instantly streamed down her face.
“Second Madam, don’t worry. If I have time tomorrow, we can do a further examination,” Mu Rong Shu, seeing how emotional the patient was, tried to arrange the examination as soon as possible.
“Yes, yes, I’m free every day,” Wen Er’s wife replied, wiping her tears.
“Please prepare a clean and private room for the examination, and I’ll come to the Wen residence tomorrow afternoon,” Mu Rong Shu suggested, thinking of her space hospital and making the request.
“Alright, I’ll wait for Miss Mu at the house tomorrow. Should I send a carriage to pick you up from the Mu residence?” Wen Er’s wife asked, trying to calm her excitement.
“There’s no need for that trouble. I’ll come after lunch tomorrow. Also, I’m not sure if Wen Ye will be available for the consultation tomorrow,” Mu Rong Shu added, concerned that men in ancient times might not be as open to these matters.
“It’s fine. I’ll talk to my husband tonight and ask him to take the day off tomorrow,” Wen Er’s wife replied. Though she didn’t understand the connection, she trusted Mu Rong Shu’s request, knowing it was important.
She had a very good relationship with her husband, but their marriage had been without children for three years. Although her husband and mother-in-law were very understanding and had never pressured her, she knew he wanted a child. She had tried many remedies and prescriptions, but none had worked. Now, hearing that Mu Rong Shu could help her regulate her health, she was willing to do anything, even if it meant her husband’s involvement.
The ladies and young misses who arrived later were disappointed when they found out the beauty cream had already sold out. Although they couldn’t get it immediately, they all registered to be given priority when the next batch was available.
After the last customer left, everyone was exhausted. Mu Rong Shu, knowing they had worked hard, had her second aunt distribute rewards to the shopkeeper and staff who had helped.
As for Liu Ru Yan and Song Yan Ran, Mu Rong Shu promised to give them some health supplements to help their bodies and then took them out for a lavish meal.
Song Wei and Ming Shu had already returned to their residence. Rong Qing also declined Mu Rong Shu’s invitation as there were still matters to handle at the shop, and she wanted to immediately check the sales of the beauty cream.
Wen Jing was included in the invitation as Mu Rong Shu’s older brother, Mu Si, happened to be picking up his sister and came along. So, Wen Jing’s presence became more reasonable.
Mu Rong Shu, feeling financially confident now, led them to the best restaurant in the capital. The staff, seeing the third young master with guests, quickly escorted them to a private VIP room on the second floor.
“Shu Er, this is too extravagant. This place is so expensive! I bet my father has never come here. I never imagined I’d get to enjoy it because of you,” Liu Ru Yan thought of her stingy father and decided to brag about it when she got home.
“Well then, eat more. Later, you can take some back for Ming Shu and Uncle Liu. I’ll cover the bill. Ming Shu helped a lot today,” Mu Rong Shu said while helping everyone take a seat and suggesting Liu Ru Yan take some food to go.
“That’s too much… Mother will scold me if I do that,” Liu Ru Yan hesitated, not daring to take food to go.
“Then just eat more yourself, and finish Ming Shu and Uncle Liu’s portions,” Song Yan Ran teased with a smile.
“Hmph, I’m not going to save you money today. I’ll order the signature dishes!” Liu Ru Yan joked, pretending to be angry.
“Order, order, all of them! Manager, bring us your signature dishes!” Mu Rong Shu said to the manager.
“Shu Er, I was just joking, don’t really order everything!” Liu Ru Yan quickly stopped her when she realized Mu Rong Shu was serious.
“Don’t worry, I have the money. Besides, I haven’t had a chance to dine at a restaurant in the capital yet. It’s a must,” Mu Rong Shu said with confidence.
“You don’t need to worry, Miss Liu. I have a VIP card here, so we can get a discount,” Wen Jing, who had been silent, reassured Liu Ru Yan.
The manager, standing by, couldn’t help but twitch his mouth, thinking, “Third Young Master, how much of a discount should we give for this meal?”
Although Wen Jing wasn’t a frequent customer due to his health, the staff and manager all knew him well. Wen’s family was the most scholarly and well-respected, and offending him could cost them their jobs.
