Chapter 25

Dealing with the Scumbag and the Shameless Girl

Xia Wanyang, still slightly dazed, accepted the offer. Just then, Wang Jing, Li Jing, and Fang Zhaodi walked over.

“Xia Wanyang, you’re really something, huh? Hooked up with Accountant Zhang already?” Wang Jing sneered.

Xia Wanyang turned to look at her. Jealousy briefly flickered in Wang Jing’s eyes before she quickly concealed it.

“What are you talking about? How can you slander me like this?” Xia Wanyang bit her lip and pinched herself discreetly. Tears welled up and began to flow—a perfect act of grievance.

Zhang Shiye’s gaze darkened as he said coldly, “Apologize.”

Wang Jing looked incredulous. “Why should I apologize? If she dares to act like this, why can’t others talk about it?”

Zhang Shiye slowly approached. “Xia Comrade and I share a pure camaraderie. How did that become so dirty after being twisted by your filthy mouth? Maybe it’s because you’re so dirty yourself that you can’t see purity in anyone else.”

Wang Jing’s eyes reddened. “You…you two…”

Xia Wanyang, her face streaked with crocodile tears, pitifully turned to Zhang Shiye. “Accountant Zhang, just let it go. I’m used to them bullying me.”

Zhang Shiye’s brows knitted tightly. “No, I can’t let them smear you like this.”

Xia Wanyang turned to Wang Jing. “Comrade Wang, I know you’re jealous of me. But we’re all comrades here for re-education by the poor and lower-middle peasants. You can’t just spout baseless accusations. I’ll let it slide this time, but I hope there won’t be a next time.”

Then, silently mouthing, You just wait.

She turned back with a sorrowful, tear-streaked face. “I’ll get to work now, Accountant Zhang. What I did yesterday was what I should’ve done. Don’t feel burdened—I just wanted to thank you.”

Wang Jing: “…”

Fang Zhaodi: “…”

Li Jing: “…”

As Xia Wanyang walked away, Wang Jing glared at her retreating figure, jealousy flaring even stronger in her eyes. She clenched her fists, silently vowing to make Xia Wanyang pay.

Zhang Shiye, watching her leave, mentally marked down Wang Jing for her actions.

Holding her large steamed bun, Xia Wanyang instantly switched to a cheerful demeanor. “Ladies, I’m here!”

Aunt Ding saw her and immediately pulled over a small stool to sit beside her, face full of gossip. “Little Xia, there’s someone new here trying to switch jobs. Since she arrived, she’s been clinging to Shuyun like glue. Look at her—her face practically screams, ‘I like your son!’”

Following Aunt Ding’s gaze, Xia Wanyang spotted the culprit. Oh, it’s Li Yu!

At the moment, Li Yu was sitting beside Aunt Qiao, chattering incessantly. Xia Wanyang narrowed her eyes. Well, well, trying to steal my chance, are you?

Aunt Qiao’s brow furrowed so tightly it resembled a pretzel. Xia Wanyang called out, “Aunt Qiao!”

To Aunt Qiao, it was like hearing a voice from heaven. She immediately moved her stool over, and soon the other women—Aunt Cai, Sister Liu, Aunt Wang—naturally gathered around, forming a circle with Xia Wanyang at the center.

Li Yu’s eyes widened in fury, practically shooting daggers at Xia Wanyang. She glared at her with such venom it seemed she wanted to devour her whole.

Last night, Li Yu had seen Xia Wanyang—a beautiful and captivating youth. She’d also noticed Zhang Shiye’s gaze, so gentle and focused, as if Xia Wanyang was the only person in the world. That kind of tenderness and attention drove Li Yu mad with jealousy and seething with rage.

By the end of the morning, Xia Wanyang had chatted and laughed with the group so much her mouth felt dry, but she didn’t slack off with her work. In fact, the laughter seemed to make the tasks go even faster.

It was a pity such light work would only last two more days. By May 1st, it would be time to start planting crops!

When Xia Wanyang returned at noon, lunch had already been prepared. Duan Xiaoyu and Wang Yan sat on either side of her, with Li Xiang and Zheng Yu sitting across from them.

Although they were having boiled cabbage for lunch, Xia Wanyang was starving and found the food unexpectedly delicious.

After finishing her meal, she didn’t go for a rest. Fang Zhaodi and Li Wenzhu had just left in succession, and Xia Wanyang decided to follow them and see what kind of sparks might fly between the two.

In the woods, Fang Zhaodi was leaning against a large tree, wiping her tears continuously, her eyes swollen like walnuts. Among all the female intellectual youth, Fang Zhaodi wasn’t the most beautiful, but she definitely had the kind of look that mothers wanted their sons to marry.

“Why should this happen to me? Xia Wanyang is too much. Neither of us has ever offended her, but why does she get to treat us with such disrespect, cursing us like that?” Fang Zhaodi sobbed.

Li Wenzhu’s eyes flashed with disgust. “Stop crying. She’s just a spoiled young lady from the big city. Of course, she has a big temper. Once I have her in my grasp, I’ll be able to do whatever I want with her. After I take her back to the city, I’ll settle her in, and then I’ll come back to get you!”

Fang Zhaodi cried as she threw herself into Li Wenzhu’s arms. “Wenzhu, you’re all I have left. If you go back, don’t forget about me! I’ll wait for you here until you come back!”

Xia Wanyang had heard Li Wenzhu say he would “have her in his hands” and felt her stomach churn with disgust. She was so upset she nearly vomited her lunch.

“Yeah, just wait for me here,” Li Wenzhu continued. “But to get her in my hands, we need a plan. Otherwise, with her attitude, I can’t even speak to her properly.”

“Wenzhu, why don’t we ruin her reputation? That way, even if she wants to marry, she’ll have to, and if she doesn’t, it won’t be up to her!”

The two of them continued whispering in each other’s ears. Whatever they said, Xia Wanyang couldn’t hear, but it was probably just the usual underhanded tricks.

Xia Wanyang quickly entered her space and called for Dazhuang to come down from the mountain. Her original plan was to have the poisonous snakes bite them to death, but upon further thought, that would be too easy for them. Li Wenzhu had tortured her for nearly ten years in her past life.

“Dazhuang, when you go out, scare these two bad people into unconsciousness. Don’t bite them; I still need them! Once it’s done, I’ll give you and your wife some delicious spirit water!” Xia Wanyang patted Dazhuang’s head while speaking.

Dazhuang nodded in understanding.

When Xia Wanyang came out of her space, the two were still in each other’s arms, exchanging their affections.

She quietly released Dazhuang, then hid back in her space. Three minutes later, when she came out, Dazhuang was sitting to the side, licking his paw, while the two scheming individuals were lying unconscious on the ground.

Dazhuang gave her a look as if asking, Why did you take so long? Xia Wanyang’s mouth twitched. She quickly recalled Dazhuang to her space and then took the two villains along with her. This spot wouldn’t do; she needed to move them to a new location.

Leaving the woods, she took a look outside. Everyone was resting for lunch, and there wasn’t a soul around. She tossed the two out and then released the monkeys she had been feeding from the mountain. “Little monkeys, strip them of their clothes! Not a piece left! I’ll wait over there, and once you’re done, come find me. There’s a reward if you do it well!”

She ran a little further away. Five minutes later, the monkeys came bounding toward her. The smallest monkey had Fang Zhaodi’s tattered shirt on its head.

Xia Wanyang’s eyes flicked, and she called over the biggest monkey. “Take the clothes and throw them onto the tree!”

Once everything was done, Xia Wanyang and her troop of monkeys entered the space. “Let’s go wash up in that little creek!”

The monkeys eagerly jumped in, and Xia Wanyang took out five bunches of bananas to give them as a treat.

After the monkeys ate and washed, they all ran off. The monkey that had thrown the clothes at her gestured toward Xia Wanyang, mimed a fist-pumping action, and then pointed to the sky.

“Are you saying you’ll help me again next time?”

The large monkey gave her a clever look before running off.

Xia Wanyang then called for Dazhuang and Cuihua to come down and have a bath in the creek too. She even gave them a whole pig’s leg as a treat.

Once everything was taken care of and she had thanked the monkeys, she looked at the creek, flowing swiftly toward the distance, and finally relaxed. Otherwise, with all that fur in the water, she wouldn’t have been able to bathe herself!
