Chapter 27
The Scum and the Cheap Woman Deserve to Die
The next second, Zhang Heping’s words shattered Li Wenzhu’s fantasy.
“I’ll write you both a recommendation letter right now, and give you the afternoon off. Go get your marriage certificate! If you don’t, you’re not really married!”
At this point, Fang Zhaodi was conflicted. On one hand, she wanted to marry Li Wenzhu; on the other hand, she didn’t want to marry him right now. Their families were both average, and after two years in the countryside, neither had received any financial help from home. They often had to send money back to their families, and now they would have to support both households.
But the situation left her no choice. With so many people watching, if she refused, the consequences were clear.
For the entire afternoon, the older women were all excited as if they’d been injected with energy, their insults toward the couple never repeated. During a break, Summer Wan Yang even contributed a bag of sunflower seeds, peanuts, and some fruit candies.
Li Yu, who had been isolated in the morning, spent the afternoon quietly working, occasionally glaring at Summer Wan Yang.
But Summer Wan Yang didn’t care. She was focused on how to deal with that scum of a man and his cheap woman. She decided that, for their future misdeeds, she needed to give them a thorough lesson.
As everyone finished work for the day, Li Wenzhu and Fang Zhaodi were packing their things. The team had let them stay in the cow shed, since they were now married, and it was inappropriate to live with everyone else.
Li Jing looked at Fang Zhaodi with disdain. Summer Wan Yang didn’t care, since it had nothing to do with her.
After dinner, Summer Wan Yang returned to her room, claiming she needed rest after being scared earlier that day.
She drew the curtains and entered the space, running up the mountain without pause. “Little snakes, come out!”
The Bamboo Leaf Green, Silver Ring Snake, White-Browed Viper, and several other snakes that Summer Wan Yang couldn’t name all lined up automatically, followed by a few Corn Snakes and Spotted Snakes.
“No need for non-poisonous ones to join in, go back!” Summer Wan Yang puffed her cheeks, already scared. It was fine when only one or two snakes were around, but with so many, they were trying to scare her to death!
With a snap of her fingers, only six venomous snakes remained, the ones she recognized.
“I’ll take you all to a place soon. Bite them tightly, but first, scare them. After they pass out, hide, and when they wake up, go for the bite. Got it?”
The little snakes flicked their tongues and swayed their heads, signaling their understanding.
In the dead of night, with only the sounds of cicadas outside, Summer Wan Yang changed into a black outfit. Mimicking what she’d seen on TV, she found a black cloth and covered her face.
When she opened the window and tried to jump down, her legs trembled from the height, and she almost fell.
“Mom, thank goodness I’m nimble. I almost saw my great-grandfather!” Summer Wan Yang clutched her chest.
At this time, the village was pitch dark, and she couldn’t risk using a flashlight. If something jumped out, it would scare her half to death. She had no intention of failing her mission and getting caught.
Using her memory from her past life, she made her way to the cow shed. From a crack in the door, she saw two figures on the small bed—one on the east side, one on the west side. Were they fighting?
Summer Wan Yang realized the truth. Neither of them had eaten dinner, and they had moved into the cow shed without any furniture. The place smelled of cow dung, and flies swarmed around. The bed had no mat, and the only things in the room were a lopsided table and a chair covered in spider webs.
Li Wenzhu immediately began to argue with Fang Zhaodi, blaming her for everything that happened. If she hadn’t invited him to the woods, none of this would have occurred.
But Fang Zhaodi felt wronged too. She had been insulted by Summer Wan Yang and the older women that morning, didn’t earn any work points in the afternoon, and had been seen by all the men in the village. When they went to get their marriage certificate, Li Wenzhu didn’t even suggest buying anything for her.
They ended up arguing, and neither of them cooked dinner. They simply lay down on the bed and fell asleep.
Summer Wan Yang released the snakes. They entered the room and crawled up the bed, following the pants of Li Wenzhu, which were hanging off the edge.
Fang Zhaodi was in a deep sleep, dreaming she had returned to the city and was living a happy life. But then, a cold sensation suddenly touched her neck, waking her up. She groggily opened her eyes and realized something was wrapped around her neck, cold and sharp.
Fang Zhaodi was terrified. Her heart raced as her body trembled uncontrollably. She tried to scream, but her throat felt blocked, and only a faint whimper escaped her lips. Fear overwhelmed her, and her mind went blank.
“Ah—ah—” Fang Zhaodi couldn’t hold back her scream. Her voice shattered the silence of the night, echoing in the air. She struggled desperately to free herself from the snake’s grip, but it held on tightly, making it impossible for her to move.
The shrill sound woke Li Wenzhu, who had been sleeping soundly. He was about to yell at her but immediately felt something cold crawling on him. “Ah—bugs!”
The cow shed, which had once been home to elderly people sent down to the countryside, had been empty for months after they had died in the winter. The nearest house was at least 500 meters away, and no one would hear them in the middle of the night.
Then the two of them passed out together. Summer Wan Yang, along with the snakes, entered the space. These two scoundrels weren’t going to wake up anytime soon, and she certainly didn’t want to stay outside getting eaten by mosquitoes.
She set an alarm for two hours and fell asleep. When she woke up and exited the space, Li Wenzhu and Fang Zhaodi still hadn’t regained consciousness. It seemed they had been thoroughly frightened.
Summer Wan Yang pinched the pressure point on her own body, then quickly released a few snakes before returning to the space. It wasn’t that she enjoyed tormenting them, but she could always be reborn. She feared that these two might somehow experience the same miracle and come looking for revenge later, which would be no fun.
The snakes didn’t hesitate this time. They immediately carried out their tasks, each targeting a different part of the bodies. Three snakes attacked one person: one bit their leg, another aimed for their abdomen, and the last one went straight for the neck, preparing to land a fatal strike.
When Summer Wan Yang came out, the two of them were already beyond saving. After gathering the snakes, she kicked them a few times. In her mind, she replayed the images of her previous life when Li Wenzhu tortured and confined her, taking everything she had for his own enjoyment. Now, he had died in this filthy cow shed in such a tragic way. She finally felt a sense of relief.
“Don’t ask me where I’m from~ my hometown is far away~” Summer Wan Yang happily sang as she skipped along. When she was about twenty meters away, she saw someone coming out to use the restroom.
She quickly hid, knowing that the news of the two scoundrels’ deaths would spread tomorrow, and she didn’t want to be suspected.
Before long, the person who had gone to the restroom came out. Summer Wan Yang saw clearly—it was Wang Jing, that annoying fool who had talked nonsense in front of Zhang Shiye during the day, almost ruining her reputation. She had been busy with Li Wenzhu and Fang Zhaodi and hadn’t had time to deal with her, but now this woman had delivered herself right to her doorstep.
Summer Wan Yang quickly ran over, grabbed Wang Jing by the hair, and slammed her head against the wall. She remembered how Wang Jing had pushed her down at Wang Huan’s wedding, causing her to hit her head, and slammed her again in anger.
Blood flowed from Wang Jing’s head uncontrollably. Summer Wan Yang pursed her lips—she didn’t want to kill her, just teach her a lesson. It wasn’t like there was deep hatred between them.
After thinking for a moment, she took out a towel and pressed it to Wang Jing’s head until the bleeding stopped. Then, she dragged her toward the restroom, pinning her to the ground with her face down.
“Hmph, sleep well in the restroom. Let’s see if you’re still so mouthy in the future.”
She clapped her hands, then climbed back into the house through the window.
