Chapter 17 Can You Compare to Your Sister?

The man who fell into the water woke up after being bandaged by Doctor Liu.  Upon waking, he ran around screaming and looking for his daughter.  No matter how the village chief’s family tried to stop him, he wouldn’t listen.  He would grab any child around three or four years old and check them up and down.  If he found out it wasn’t his daughter, he would throw them away, scaring the children into crying.  The adults were so angry that they chased after him.

The man being chased cried out in a heart-wrenching voice as he ran: “Zhen Zhen, where are you?  Don’t leave daddy, daddy promises to be good, wuuu, you give me back my daughter, wuuu, I’ll give you anything you want, please give me back my daughter, Zhen Zhen!!!”

After shouting, he even barged into other people’s homes to snatch children, causing chaos in the entire village.  The commotion was so loud that even the old Shen family at the end of the village heard it.

Shen Laotou and the others put down their chopsticks and went outside to check the situation.  From afar, they saw a mess in the center of the village, with a large group of people chasing after a big man.

Hearing the silly man’s cries, Shen Nian frowned and said to Wei Shi: “Mother, it’s that uncle, he’s looking for his daughter again!”

Shen Laotou: “Is it the strange man who fell into the water that you mentioned?”

Shen Nian nodded: “Grandpa, I think the daughter the uncle is looking for might be me.  Why don’t we go over and take a look?  The uncle is injured, and he’s making such a fuss, his injuries will get worse.”

The Shen family disagreed.  The man thought Nian Nian was his daughter, what if he saw Nian Nian and tried to snatch her?  It would scare Nian Nian.

The man’s commotion grew louder and louder.  He ran to the kitchen of a household and grabbed a kitchen knife, hacking at random.  The villagers dared not approach him.  He took the opportunity to climb onto the roof, shouting at the top of his lungs: “Zhen Zhen!  Zhen Zhen!  Waaaa!”

He cried out in despair twice and jumped off the roof, rushing into the crowd and taking a young boy hostage.  He held the knife to the boy’s neck and roared at the crowd: “Where have you hidden my daughter?  Hand her over, or I’ll kill him!”

His ferocious appearance at this moment was like a crazed demon.

The villagers were terrified, but their fear was overshadowed by anger.

“We shouldn’t have saved this man, he’s a madman!”

“You quickly let go of my son, we don’t know your daughter at all!  Your daughter isn’t here!”

“Let him go!”

The more the villagers shouted, the more agitated the man became.  His cries grew louder, and his grip on the knife tightened.

The atmosphere became increasingly tense.

Suddenly, a crisp voice rang out.

“Uncle, please don’t hurt Little Tiger!”

Hearing this voice, the crying man stopped crying immediately.  He looked in the direction of the voice.

Shen Nian was being held by Shen Nan and walked out of the crowd, followed by the rest of the Shen family.  Shen Feng stepped forward and stood beside Shen Nan.

As soon as he saw Shen Nian, the man showed excitement: “Zhen Zhen, daddy finally found you, wuuu, they are all bad people, they bullied daddy.”

Shen Nian patiently said: “They are not bad people, they are all good people, they didn’t bully you, they didn’t bully you, uncle, can you please let go of Little Tiger?”

The man asked: “Who is Little Tiger?”

Shen Nian said: “It’s the person you’re holding, he’s Little Tiger, he’s a good person.”

The man said “oh” and let go of Little Tiger.

Little Tiger quickly crawled behind his father and hid.

Shen Nian secretly breathed a sigh of relief and said to the man again: “Uncle, can you please put down the knife?  The knife is very dangerous, I’m scared!”

The man immediately threw the knife to the ground.

Seeing that the man no longer had a knife in his hand, the villagers were about to rush forward and grab him.

Shen Nian shouted: “Stop!”

She said urgently: “Brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, please don’t be impulsive, don’t hurt the uncle, let me talk to him for a while, okay?”

Wang Pozi said: “Nian Nian, what do you have to talk to him about?  He’s a madman!”

“Nian Nian, move away, let us grab him first, lest he go crazy again!”

“Little Tiger was almost hurt by him, the children in the village were also scared by him, this scourge can’t stay in the village, he must be driven out!”

“Drive him out!”

The man’s commotion in the village had angered everyone.  The villagers were all in a rage and wouldn’t listen to a three-year-old child like Shen Nian.  They pounced on the man and pinned him to the ground.  The man, who had just been calmed down by Shen Nian, let out another angry roar.

But this time, the villagers didn’t give him a chance to resist.  They tied him up with rope and carried him towards the village entrance.

The scene was too chaotic.  Shen Nian was protected by her family and retreated to the side, watching helplessly as the man was taken away and thrown out of Lanhua Village.

“Nian Nian, don’t think too much about it.  It’s good that the uncle was thrown out of the village.  After all, he’s not from our village.  His family might be looking for him now.  Once he’s out of the village, he should be able to find his way home.”

“Let’s go home and continue eating.  We’ve been running around for a while, the food must be cold by now!”

Hearing the adults’ words, Shen Nian didn’t say anything more.  She was just a three-year-old child, and this kind of thing shouldn’t be her concern.

But she had a feeling that the man wouldn’t leave Lanhua Village easily.

“Bang!”

The man was thrown onto the road.  Zhou Hao untied him and said coldly: “Your daughter isn’t in our village, and Nian Nian isn’t your daughter either.  We’re not bad people.  We’ll let you off this time.  You leave quickly and don’t come to our village again.”

The man had been exhausted from all the commotion.  He was lying on the ground, panting heavily, unable to get up.

Zhou Hao and the others frowned.  Although they felt a little sorry for him, thinking about the man’s actions in the village, they turned and left.

The man cried with red eyes, muttering: “Zhen Zhen, wuuu, my daughter!!!”

The man fainted.  He didn’t know how long it had been before he woke up.  He looked around foolishly, got up from the ground, and walked aimlessly forward.

Shen Dong brought Shen Bo and the others home before sunset.  He also bought a lot of things.

There was meat, ribs, pastries, and a red hair tie for Shen Nian.

Shen Nian looked at the ribs and said happily: “Wow!  We’re having ribs tonight!”

Shen Dong rubbed her little nose: “Everyone likes to eat meat, only you like to eat bones!”

Shen Laotai picked up the ribs and said: “Grandma will go and stew the ribs for my dear granddaughter.”

Wei Shi said: “I’ll wash the radishes.”

The whole family was busy and happy.  Shen Laotou told Shen Dong and the others about the man who fell into the water.

“Lao Si said that the man might come back.  We have to be careful, lest he go crazy and steal Nian Nian away.  You didn’t see the look in his eyes when he looked at Nian Nian, it was like he saw his own daughter.  He really thought Nian Nian was his daughter.”

Shen Dong was unhappy about a stranger trying to take his daughter: “Okay, I understand.  I’ll be careful.”

Shen Nian and Shen Feng went to Shen Bo and Shen Xue’s room.  Since the two brothers started studying, their temperament had changed a bit.  They had become more refined and less wild.  They did everything in an orderly and calm manner.

At dinner, Shen Nian and Shen Feng personally took out the buns and placed them on the table.  Shen Nian smiled and said: “Big brother, second brother, guess who made the big meat buns today?”

Shen Bo didn’t even think about it and said: “You made them.”

Shen Xue looked at him: “Big brother, sister is only three years old, how could she make buns?  I can’t even make such beautiful buns.”

Shen Bo glanced at him: “Can you compare to your sister?”
