Chapter 8 : I really can’t drink I’m pregnant
As Jiang Yunshu was speaking, her phone suddenly rang.
She glanced at the caller ID, it was Li Ran Yi calling.
“Hey, Yunshu, that guy Gu Jingyan finally, finally, finally got some time off! Let’s go out tonight and have some fun!”
Jiang Yunshu, who had been treated like a national treasure by Xu Shuping and kept under lock and key, didn’t even know if she could step out of the Fu family residence.
After a brief silence, she replied, “Got it. I’ll call you back in a bit.”
Li Ran Yi, who had been abruptly hung up on, was left confused. The last time Jiang Yunshu had ended a call like that was when they had accidentally walked in on the young couple enjoying a sweet night together.
But now, it was broad daylight, and the conversation was calm, so it didn’t make sense.
Jiang Yunshu put the phone back on the table. “Grandma, Mom, I want to go out today. I have two friends I haven’t seen in a long time, and it’s just so happens they’re on holiday, so I’d like to catch up with them.”
Xu Shuping frowned. “Xiao Shu, you’re still in the early stages of pregnancy. It’s better not to go out. You’ll have plenty of time later. If you really want, invite your friends over.”
Jiang Yunshu had already anticipated that Xu Shuping would refuse, so she immediately turned to look at Grandma Fu with a pitiful expression.
Grandma Fu understood. “Shuping, just let Xiao Shu go. Since she moved into the old residence, she hasn’t gone out. She’s been cooped up here for so long, it’s almost making her go crazy. Xiao Shu isn’t careless, she’ll be careful with herself and the baby.”
Since Grandma Fu had spoken, Xu Shuping didn’t object further, though she gave some more reminders before nodding in agreement.
—
In the evening, Uncle Li drove Jiang Yunshu to the “Royal Garden.”
This exclusive Chinese restaurant was booked by Xu Shuping. The environment was elegant, the food was exquisite, and most importantly, it was only a ten-minute drive from the Fu family residence.
After entering the private room, Jiang Yunshu had barely sat down when Li Ran Yi and Gu Jingyan entered, playfully shoving each other like kindergarten kids in a scuffle.
Jiang Yunshu couldn’t help but laugh. “You two came together?”
“I picked him up from the airport,” Li Ran Yi plopped down on a chair. “This guy lied to me, said he brought me a gift.”
Gu Jingyan looked at Jiang Yunshu and raised three fingers in defense. “I did get her one.”
Li Ran Yi gritted her teeth. “Are you saying those little snacks from the airline are a gift?”
Gu Jingyan shrugged. “Well, you ate that small round bread, right?”
Li Ran Yi crossed her arms and pressed down. “Do you want to eat a fist?”
Jiang Yunshu smiled, shaking her head. She handed each of them a menu.
“Alright, let’s stop fighting for now. You both need to have something to show for it if you’re going to fight.”
Gu Jingyan clicked his tongue. “Yunshu, you just like to watch the drama.”
“I can’t help it!” Li Ran Yi flipped through the menu, asking bluntly, “Who’s paying for dinner tonight?”
“You’re so stingy,” Gu Jingyan glanced at the menu before looking up. “How about we eat somewhere else?”
Jiang Yunshu smiled. “I’ll pay, just order whatever you want.”
Gu Jingyan snapped his fingers, and both he and Li Ran Yi said in unison, “Got it! We were just waiting for you to say that.”
After ordering, Li Ran Yi took out her phone and showed them a photo from her album. “You two, take a look. Is this man handsome?”
Gu Jingyan glanced at it. “Oh, a new target?”
“Bingo~” Li Ran Yi blinked. “This well-dressed, charming man is totally my type.”
Gu Jingyan scoffed. “Ha, your taste is pretty fickle.”
“We’re all single, who are you looking down on?” Li Ran Yi wasn’t happy with his comment.
Gu Jingyan wagged a finger. “I’m way ahead of you, I’ve been in two relationships already.”
Li Ran Yi crossed her arms, ready to expose him. “You still have the nerve to talk? The first time you dated, you dumped the girl because she was too clingy and it interfered with your gaming and flight training. You broke up in less than a month. The second time it lasted three months, but you only met a few times, and now you’re still single, probably never even had your first kiss.”
Gu Jingyan tilted his head. “Tsk, Li Ran Yi, you’re really harsh.”
Li Ran Yi covered her mouth, laughing. “Oh my god, I actually guessed it! I didn’t expect this so-called playboy to be a pure little boy at heart. Your image is ruined now, haha…”
Gu Jingyan shot her a look. “Don’t even think about the gas money.”
Li Ran Yi immediately stopped laughing. “But seriously, I never expected the first of us to get married would be Yunshu.”
“That just makes me mad,” Gu Jingyan looked at Jiang Yunshu. “You never even had a relationship, but you went straight into a shotgun marriage. Fine, that’s one thing, but your husband is actually my arch-nemesis, Fu Chengze.”
Li Ran Yi asked, “How did you and Fu Chengze become rivals?”
Jiang Yunshu silently answered from the side, “He was pursuing a girl in college, but she liked Chengze.”
“I remember now! In our freshman year basketball match, he lost to Fu Chengze in front of that girl,” Li Ran Yi and Jiang Yunshu chimed in. “Yunshu, your husband probably still doesn’t know that Gu Jingyan was trying to win over that girl.”
“I’ll say it again, I won the game in sophomore year!” Gu Jingyan emphasized each word.
Li Ran Yi, seeing his intense competitive spirit, clapped sarcastically. “Good job, Gu Jingyan, you’re the best!”
Gu Jingyan ignored her and continued speaking to Jiang Yunshu. “And you, that time in sophomore year when you came to watch me play basketball at Beihang, you had a camera around your neck, saying you’d take candid shots for me. But out of ten photos, eight were of Fu Chengze. I thought you were doing it on purpose to annoy me. But now, I wonder, maybe you were already into him back then?”
Jiang Yunshu took a sip of water, pretending she didn’t hear.
“Shit!” Gu Jingyan grabbed Jiang Yunshu. “Stop playing innocent, tell us the truth.”
Li Ran Yi’s eyes were wide, watching Jiang Yunshu eagerly. “Come on, tell us!”
Jiang Yunshu put down her cup. “There’s nothing surprising about it.”
Gu Jingyan nearly fainted, running his hand through his hair. “How could you say that so matter-of-factly? The Fu family sure does attract attention from all the girls.”
“Shut up!” Li Ran Yi punched him in the back. Then she asked, “Yunshu, don’t tell me you’ve been secretly dating Fu Chengze for all these years?”
Jiang Yunshu smiled. “No, he had a girlfriend back then. And he went abroad for his studies in the second semester of sophomore year, so we didn’t have any contact.”
Li Ran Yi sighed. “Well, it’s crazy, you two were apart for so many years and still ended up together. The red thread of fate must’ve been made of steel.”
“The one who tied the knot was me,” Gu Jingyan sighed. “Yunshu, I owe you one. Let me bow to you.”
As they joked, the waiter brought the dishes to the table.
Li Ran Yi took the bottle of wine from the waiter. “This wine is super expensive. Let’s see if we can actually taste gold in it.”
Jiang Yunshu stopped her. “Don’t pour it for me, I’m not drinking.”
“You’re no fun,” Li Ran Yi poured the wine into the glass. “Red wine doesn’t get you drunk, it actually makes you more energetic.”
Jiang Yunshu smiled helplessly. “I’m pregnant, I really can’t drink.”
