Su Wan quickly figured out what was happening.
As a disposable supporting character, she was destined to be humiliated by the protagonist thousands of times, both mentally and physically. How could he genuinely want her to bandage his wound? He was just using it as an excuse to make things difficult for her.
Su Wan understood.
Wasn’t it just about lying low and enduring the ridicule? She could handle that.
“Hey, you two students over there, what are you doing?”
Two security guards were patrolling across the field. From afar, they couldn’t see clearly, but as soon as they identified a boy and a girl, they immediately concluded it must be a pair of young lovebirds sneaking around.
“Which class are you from?”
Loitering after school, secretly lingering under the big tree behind the field—definitely up to no good.
The two portly security guards exchanged a glance, their expressions changing, and they started jogging toward the pair, shouting sternly.
Shen Tingyan was injured in a fight, and Su Wan was still on the scene. If the school staff discovered them, things would get messy, and it would be impossible to explain.
Su Wan took a step back, backpack slung over her shoulder.
“Run!”
The two bolted toward the side gate, one after the other.
“Stop right there!”
“Don’t run! If you keep running, you’ll be written up!”
The security guards’ threats only made them run faster.
Su Wan, carrying her backpack, was naturally slower. Just a few meters from the side gate, the distance between them started to widen. Suddenly, Shen Tingyan, who was running ahead, paused and turned back to grab her wrist.
“Don’t stop.”
The scenery flew past in a blur as the hot evening wind brushed against her face. They finally slipped out through the school gate and got into a private car.
By the time the two security guards, panting heavily, made it to the gate, the students had already disappeared.
Furious, the guards cursed under their breath and turned back.
It was Su Wan’s first time being chased by security. Sweating profusely, she rolled down the car window, letting the wind cool her flushed cheeks.
She realized Shen Tingyan was still holding her wrist tightly.
Maybe it was the tension from earlier. At least she hadn’t been abandoned—so that was good.
Su Wan said, “You…”
Before she could finish, Shen Tingyan let go expressionlessly.
“Don’t get the wrong idea.”
Su Wan blinked.
“Huh? I was just going to say—you forgot your homework. What are you going to do tonight?”
Shen Tingyan: “…”
The driver, hands on the wheel, listened distractedly to their conversation. He recalled once driving Su Wan home on a rainy day, seeing Shen Tingyan on the roadside, and asking Su Wan if she wanted to offer him a ride—only to be harshly rebuked.
The current situation completely baffled him.
Not only were they in the same car, but… holding hands?
“Come to my room later,” Su Wan said calmly, as if giving an everyday instruction. She remembered there was a first-aid kit in her room.
The driver, however, was utterly shocked by her words.
…
Back in her bedroom, Su Wan opened the bottom drawer of her bedside table and found the first-aid kit. Bandages, disinfectant, adhesive bandages—everything was there.
She took out a bag of cotton swabs and placed it on the table. At that moment, there was a knock on the door.
“Come in.”
Shen Tingyan pushed the door open.
It was his first time entering Su Wan’s room. The walls were a soft mint green, the plush bed piled high with stuffed animals, just like any other girl’s room.
A faint sweet fragrance filled the air, growing stronger as he approached her.
There weren’t any extra chairs in the room, so he sat on the striped carpet by the bed. They were close to the small coffee table, shrinking the distance between them.
He only needed to glance slightly upward to clearly see her long, delicate eyelashes, occasionally trembling as she lowered her gaze.
