Chapter 59: The Hospital—What a Lively World
“Is Y City a wildlife documentary? How can every animal here talk?” Luo Qianyun muttered, lying on Lu Yunzhen’s back. Her tone was a mix of amazement and fear
Especially when she glanced at the boss, she looked utterly terrified, as if afraid he might take a step closer.
After all, he was a crocodile with jaws big enough to bite her head off!
The boss called for his brother-in-law to bring the car. Just as Lu Yunzhen was about to take Luo Qianyun to the hospital, she suddenly exclaimed, “Wow!”
“That’s a huge panda…” Luo Qianyun stared in the direction of a “little white pig,” only to find the panda had picked it up.
“This panda is so motherly—it’s even hugging a pig from another species,” she marveled, her eyes sparkling with delight.
Meanwhile, the “mother and child” also stared back at her. The mother, however, had been informed by the boss that Luo Qianyun was suffering from mushroom poisoning.
But why a panda? Was it because of her panda-like dark circles?
Pei Xianxian, watching Luo Qianyun make a fool of herself, wished she could keep embarrassing herself longer. She could already imagine the livestream comments mocking her.
Jumping around like a monkey.
What Pei Xianxian didn’t know, though, was that the mockery was directed at her “big white chicken.”
Lu Yunzhen didn’t even bother setting Luo Qianyun down and simply carried her on his back, heading straight for the hospital.
After barely two meters, Luo Qianyun suddenly panicked. “Don’t walk so fast! It’s going to spill!”
“What’s going to spill?” Lu Yunzhen asked gently, slowing his pace.
“What do you mean, what’s going to spill? I’m a cup of milk tea, obviously. My milk tea will spill if you’re not careful,” Luo Qianyun grumbled.
A nearby customer overheard her and couldn’t help but laugh.
The car driven by the boss’s brother-in-law arrived at the entrance. But as soon as Luo Qianyun got in, she froze.
“Uh… Maybe we should take another car?” She hesitated, wanting to get out.
Before she could, Lu Yunzhen climbed in ahead of her and closed the door.
As the car sped toward the hospital, Luo Qianyun anxiously urged Lu Yunzhen to fasten his seatbelt. “You shouldn’t have gotten in so quickly. This car isn’t safe.”
“Why not?” Lu Yunzhen asked patiently.
She glanced at the driver. “Let me ask you—are corgis’ legs short or not?”
Thinking of the famously short legs of corgis, Lu Yunzhen nodded. “Short.”
“Exactly! Do you think a corgi’s legs can reach the brakes?” Luo Qianyun sighed helplessly.
The driver, overhearing this, burst out laughing. “Don’t worry, I’m a mutated corgi with long legs. I can reach the brakes.”
Still, Luo Qianyun didn’t seem entirely convinced.
“Don’t drive so fast—I’m going to spill!” she suddenly cried, clutching her head. “That was so scary, just now!”
Thankfully, they finally arrived at the hospital.
It seemed that mushroom poisoning was so common in Y City that there was an entire dedicated department.
The boss’s brother-in-law helped with registration and queuing. In less than half an hour, Luo Qianyun was sitting in the infusion room.
While waiting, Luo Qianyun fiddled with the mushrooms growing on Lu Yunzhen’s head. In just this short time, the single mushroom from before had turned into a whole cluster.
“Another blue one grew! It’s so pretty,” she said in awe.
“Want it?” Lu Yunzhen asked softly.
Without hesitation, Luo Qianyun nodded.
Bowing his head slightly, he said, “Pick it yourself.”
But her hand passed right through the mushroom, and she pouted. “I can’t pick it…”
An elderly woman nearby noticed her condition and advised Lu Yunzhen, “Get her some warm water to help her detox faster.”
“Qianyun, stay put here. I’ll go get some water,” Lu Yunzhen said, pinching her cheek gently.
“Okay~~” she replied sweetly, watching him leave. Then, she turned to observe the others in the infusion room.
What caught her attention was… the floating subtitles above their heads.
When Lu Yunzhen returned with a thermos of warm water, her seat was empty.
“Young man, she’s over there,” the elderly lady pointed out.
Lu Yunzhen followed her gaze to see a crowd gathered, with Luo Qianyun among them.
Her IV bag was being held by a tall, skinny man who was juggling four or five other IV bags, all connected to different people.
Approaching them, Lu Yunzhen retrieved her bag from the man.
“Why were you holding it? Isn’t there an IV stand?” Luo Qianyun asked, pointing at the man, whom she apparently mistook for a “mobile IV stand.”
The man sighed and explained to Lu Yunzhen, “They all think I’m a walking IV stand—my dad included.”
For a moment, Lu Yunzhen felt lucky that at least, in Luo Qianyun’s eyes, he was still human—albeit one with mushrooms growing on his head.
Meanwhile, the group was playing a guessing game, trying to deduce the numbers on cards based on the players’ reactions.
Using the subtitles above their heads, as well as the tone and punctuation in their voices, Luo Qianyun had already won several rounds.
Although incomprehensible to Lu Yunzhen, she seemed completely immersed in this dreamlike, hallucinatory world.
Unbeknownst to her, her mushroom poisoning was responsible for the surreal visions, which she believed to be reality.
It was quite the whimsical scenario.
At the same time, Pei Xianxian’s livestream continued.
With the news of Luo Qianyun’s mushroom poisoning, the boss’s dreams of promoting his restaurant crumbled. Instead of attracting diners, this incident was now a PR disaster.
Locking himself in the kitchen, the boss spent hours investigating. He eventually found a small bag of wild mushrooms, which his brother-in-law had picked earlier that morning.
Despite warning everyone not to touch them, somehow, they’d ended up in the pot.
Pei Xianxian, having finished her work and collected her pay, left, leaving the boss to his despair.
Unexpectedly, the livestream audience shifted their attention away from Pei Xianxian, curious instead about Luo Qianyun’s condition.
Some local viewers from Y City even announced their plans to stream live from the hospital, prompting a surge in followers.
When the director heard this, he immediately assigned Pei Xianxian a new task: to visit the mushroom poisoning victims in the hospital.
What could possibly go wrong?
Pei Xianxian was also puzzled when she received this task. What was she doing?
But it must be said that after seeing the emergence of this task, the netizens who were originally going to run away stayed again.
