Chapter 58 : They Came to the Door
Fang Xiaoluo gently rubbed Shen Jinxia’s little head. “Of course, our Xiaxia is so wonderful, only the best things should be with you.”
Shen Jinxia hugged Fang Xiaoluo tightly. “Mom, you’re so good to me. You’re really so good to me.”
Zheng Lanhua had been waiting for a while, but Fang Xiaoluo still hadn’t brought Shen Jinxia to the table. She was about to go check on them.
Standing at the door, she overheard everything the two of them were saying.
After a while, Shen Jinxia finally stopped crying, and Fang Xiaoluo fixed her hair again. “Alright, let’s eat now. Let’s see if the noodles I made today taste good.”
Shen Jinxia took Fang Xiaoluo’s hand and walked to the dining table.
Then, she slowly climbed onto the high chair. “Wow, it smells so good.”
The noodles were chewy and smooth, the broth rich and flavorful. A bite of the vegetable cake was refreshing and helped cleanse the palate.
Even the cabbage strips on the noodles carried a special crisp sweetness.
Shen Jinxia ate for a while, then looked up at Zheng Lanhua. “Grandma, didn’t you say this morning that we didn’t have any cabbage or radish?”
Zheng Lanhua hadn’t expected Shen Jinxia to remember this detail. She almost bit her tongue. “I went out to buy them this morning.”
“Ah,” Shen Jinxia nodded, then lowered her head to continue eating.
Shen Haifeng finished a big bowl of noodles, ate three vegetable cakes, and felt completely full. He thought that the past few days had felt like a dream, he was so happy.
Shen Haiping ate his bowl of noodles, looked at Fang Xiaoluo with a satisfied smile, and said, “Delicious, thank you, Sister.”
Shen Jinxia hadn’t finished her portion, so Zheng Lanhua ate the rest.
She lowered her head to clear the dishes, and a smile couldn’t help but form at the corner of her mouth.
Shen Haifeng turned to Shen Jinxia. “How old are you now, and you’re still crying? Shameful.”
Shen Jinxia jumped down from her high chair and pouted. “It’s all because of Yu Xiaopang. He stepped on my hairpin.”
“Yu Xiaopang?”
Shen Haifeng asked, “Is he the little brother of Yu Feixu?”
Shen Jinxia nodded. “Mm, that’s him.”
Fang Xiaoluo overheard and asked, “Which family does Yu Feixu and Yu Xiaopang belong to?”
Shen Haifeng answered, “Their father is Yu Xinzhen. He’s well-known in the compound as my dad’s sworn enemy. Oh, by the way, Yu Xiaopang’s full name is Yu Feiyue.”
Yu Xinzhen!
Fang Xiaoluo remembered him from the day she saw him in the clinic, he was the deputy leader of the second regiment, and he seemed to enjoy causing trouble with Shen Zheng.
As for why they were enemies, she’d find out when Shen Zheng came back.
Since Shen Jinxia didn’t tell her that it was Yu Xiaopang who broke the hairpin, now that she knew it was someone else’s fault, regardless of the child’s age, they had to take responsibility.
Besides, she wanted to support Shen Jinxia.
If she let this go now, wouldn’t Yu Xiaopang just get worse next time?
Fang Xiaoluo squatted down and asked, “Xiaxia, since it was Yu Xiaopang who broke your hairpin, would you like to go find him and make him take responsibility?”
Shen Jinxia paused for a moment. “I… can I do that?”
Before, everyone had always told her not to make trouble and that suffering was a blessing.
“If Yu Xiaopang broke my thing, I can tell you, and you can help me stand up for myself, right?” Shen Jinxia asked again.
Fang Xiaoluo nodded. “Of course. It’s wrong of him to break your things, and it’s only right for us to go find him and make him take responsibility. That’s completely normal.”
Shen Jinxia felt a warm sweetness in her heart. “Mm, thank you, Mom.”
Fang Xiaoluo took Shen Jinxia’s hand and was about to go to Yu Xiaopang’s house.
Shen Haifeng caught up. “I’ll go too.”
“Alright, then let’s go together.”
With that, Fang Xiaoluo led the two children out the door.
Shen Haiping took a quick glance outside and then continued with his own business.
Zheng Lanhua furrowed her brow. Was Fang Xiaoluo going out to start a fight?
Would this even work?
Yu Xinzhen wasn’t home. At that moment, his wife, Han Weiping, and their two children, Yu Feixu and Yu Xiaopang, had just finished lunch.
Han Weiping was washing the dishes, and the two children were playing in the yard.
When Fang Xiaoluo and Shen Jinxia appeared at the door, Yu Xiaopang, with his sharp eyes, immediately noticed them.
He happily ran in front of Shen Jinxia. “Xiaxia, are you here to play with me?”
When Yu Feixu saw that Fang Xiaoluo had arrived, he quickly went inside to find Han Weiping.
Han Weiping, wearing an apron, looked Fang Xiaoluo up and down.
Everyone in the compound knew that Shen Zheng’s wife was beautiful, but seeing her up close, she was exceptionally good-looking. Han Weiping, as a woman, couldn’t help but admire her.
“Are you Captain Shen’s wife?”
Fang Xiaoluo nodded and introduced herself. “Fang Xiaoluo.”
Han Weiping was still confused about why Fang Xiaoluo was there. Since Fang Xiaoluo introduced herself, she responded, “Han Weiping.”
Their neighbors heard the noise from the yard and stretched their necks to watch. After all, it was well-known in the compound that Yu Xinzhen and Shen Zheng were sworn enemies.
The two military families had never been in contact with each other.
Now, Captain Shen’s wife had come knocking on their door.
Fang Xiaoluo walked into the yard, stretched out her hand, and opened her palm to reveal the broken hairpin. “Sister Han, I came today to ask why your son, Xiaopang, broke Shen Jinxia’s hairpin. It was her favorite thing, and she cried for a long time when she went home. Her eyes are all swollen from crying.”
Han Weiping looked down and saw that, indeed, Shen Jinxia’s eyes were severely swollen.
But her first reaction was to think that Fang Xiaoluo had come looking for trouble. “What does whether Shen Jinxia is crying or not have to do with my son? My Xiaopang never bullies anyone!”
Yu Xiaopang poked his head out. “Mom, I accidentally stepped on Xiaxia’s hairpin.”
Han Weiping: …
Her son was really slapping her face in front of everyone?
She quickly grabbed Yu Xiaopang and angrily asked, “What happened?”
Yu Xiaopang lowered his head. “I wanted to share the gold coin cakes with Xiaxia, but she didn’t want any and kept running away. I didn’t see the hairpin fall on the ground, and I stepped on it by accident.”
Han Weiping asked, “Didn’t you apologize to Shen Jinxia?”
Yu Xiaopang shook his head. “She saw the hairpin was broken and cried, then ran off.”
Han Weiping was furious. “Go apologize to Shen Jinxia.”
Yu Xiaopang felt somewhat wronged. He only wanted to share something he liked with Shen Jinxia. But he was still obedient, “Xiaxia, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have broken your hairpin.”
“But the gold coin cake is really delicious.”
Fang Xiaoluo nearly laughed when she heard Yu Xiaopang’s words. This little guy was really only thinking about food.
Shen Jinxia was very happy inside. Yu Xiaopang actually apologized to her! That would never have happened before.
“I accept your apology, but I don’t want to eat gold coin cakes. My mom’s cooking is the best in the world, much better than any kind of cake.”
Yu Xiaopang was suddenly interested. “Really? Your mom’s cooking is that good?”
Shen Jinxia puffed out her little chest, proudly saying, “Of course! It’s the best I’ve ever had.”
Yu Xiaopang was eager to try it. What could the best food in the world taste like? Was it even better than gold coin cakes?
Shen Jinxia was overjoyed. Her mom was so supportive of her! She had the best mom in the whole world.
