Chapter 106: The Ruggedly Handsome Lu Yunzheng: Afraid to Scare You with My Looks
Luo Qianyun admitted that she had never seen Lu Yunzheng in such a sorry state—his face was unshaven, and his clothes were soaked in mud.
But strangely, she felt that in this condition, he was even more striking.
Lu Yunzheng, with his teammates’ reminder, noticed Luo Qianyun, who had just come out of the medical station.
He immediately stepped forward and pulled her slightly inside. “You’re getting soaked in the rain.”
Seeing his concern, Luo Qianyun gently said, “Your clothes are drenched too. If I get a little wet, it’s no big deal.”
“That’s different. My skin is tough, but you’re delicate—I’d feel sorry if you got hurt or caught a cold in the rain,” Lu Yunzheng replied, continuing to stuff a bun into his mouth. It was impressive that he could still talk clearly with food in his mouth.
Luo Qianyun was about to reach for a bun, but Lu Yunzheng stopped her. “There are simple box lunches and instant noodles over there. You can eat those from the medical station. If you’re still hungry later, you can have something else.”
“I wanted to eat a bun with you,” Luo Qianyun murmured softly.
“These buns were specially prepared for us. After strenuous physical labor, we don’t have much appetite, so two bites of these buns are more satisfying. They don’t taste as good as usual, but they fill us up and are more suitable for us,” Lu Yunzheng explained as he pulled Luo Qianyun aside.
At the volunteer station, Lu Yunzheng lowered his head and asked, “Do you want instant noodles or box lunch?”
Luo Qianyun thought for a moment and said, “Instant noodles.”
Seeing that Lu Yunzheng was about to help her cook the noodles, Luo Qianyun quickly stopped him. “I can do it myself. You must be exhausted; rest for a bit.”
“For me, this is resting,” Lu Yunzheng said, quickly preparing the instant noodles. The volunteer took them to boil the water. “I’ll make the noodles when the water is ready. You guys can rest for a while.”
Lu Yunzheng then led Luo Qianyun to sit down, and just as he finished his bun, Qian Hu came over, handing him two more buns and a bottle of water.
“You haven’t had a break in how long?” Luo Qianyun couldn’t help but ask.
“Not long, just about twenty-something hours,” Lu Yunzheng answered.
Luo Qianyun felt a pang of sympathy. “Your eyes are all red.”
“Did I look ugly?” Lu Yunzheng asked helplessly.
“Not ugly at all, actually more handsome,” Luo Qianyun reassured him.
Lu Yunzheng smiled. “That’s good, I was worried I might scare you with my looks.”
“You have some serious misunderstandings about your looks. Even if you’re messier, you’re still ruggedly handsome,” Luo Qianyun insisted.
Soon, the volunteer finished preparing the noodles, and Lu Yunzheng stepped up without giving Luo Qianyun a chance to do anything, handing her the noodles.
After finishing his meal and chatting with Luo Qianyun for a while, Lu Yunzheng received an emergency rescue message and led the team out into the rain.
However, the rain was so heavy, and the rising water levels required the use of rubber boats for many areas.
Seeing everyone working so hard, Luo Qianyun quickly finished her noodles and even drank the soup, determined not to waste any resources.
Just as she returned to the medical station, she saw a man in a rescue suit being carried in on a stretcher. His chest was covered in blood, and he was barely conscious.
It was said that during the rescue, he had been crushed by a fallen tree while trying to protect the displaced people. When the tree fell, he didn’t notice a sharp object in the water and was impaled in the chest.
When the rescue team managed to lift the tree and save him, his chest had already bled heavily.
Dr. Dong immediately went in to perform surgery, and Luo Qianyun was called to assist.
After that, whenever someone was brought in, Luo Qianyun couldn’t help but fear that she might see a familiar face.
As the water level continued to rise, their medical station was in jeopardy.
Even though a batch of people had already been moved, the remaining equipment, supplies, and most importantly, people, still needed time to be transferred.
After continuous discussion, it was decided that the medical station had to be moved in the rain.
Just as they were preparing to transfer supplies to a new safe camp, a deafening noise came from the distance. Since it wasn’t far, they could vaguely see something falling from afar…
Even with the sound of the rain, the noise was clear.
Soon, those who went to check came back with the latest news. “It’s a landslide! A lot of rocks are rolling down the mountain!”
Upon hearing this, the head of the medical station’s face grew serious. “We’re lucky we were delayed. The original safe camp was up there, but now we’ll need to find a new one.”
This delay made the situation even more dire.
After quickly deciding to use an abandoned elementary school as the new safe camp, they were unable to use vehicles and had to rely entirely on manual labor, which took a lot of time.
By the time the floodwaters were creeping up, they were still moving supplies in the rain.
Luo Qianyun, in a disposable raincoat, was transporting medical supplies through the storm. After several runs, her strength was almost exhausted.
What had started as running now turned into a slow walk, her legs feeling as heavy as if filled with lead.
“The special rescue team is back. They can handle the rest. You should rest now,” Xu Jia said as she passed Luo Qianyun.
But the rain was so loud that Xu Jia had to raise her voice, trying to sound indifferent but failing.
“Okay,” Luo Qianyun responded, clutching the medicines and walking up the hill.
When they reached the abandoned elementary school, the place had been tidied up by the volunteers and was becoming livable.
A special disinfection team had also set up a medical area. As soon as Luo Qianyun arrived, Lin Xiaowan rushed over to take the box of medicines. “Dr. Luo, go rest for a bit. I heard there might be a surgery soon, and you’ll be busy again.”
Luo Qianyun sat down to catch her breath, letting her hands and feet fully relax. If her hands hadn’t recovered, she wouldn’t enter the operating room.
Luckily, her previous experience on the battlefield had taught her the quickest way to recover her hands, or she wouldn’t have been able to last under the intense surgical workload.
When Xu Jia brought her hot water, Luo Qianyun didn’t hesitate to drink it.
“You’ve got small arms and legs, but you run around more actively than anyone,” Xu Jia remarked.
“You’re no less active than me, Dr. Xu, aren’t you?” Luo Qianyun responded.
Xu Jia smiled. “I usually exercise, so I can handle this level of intensity. But you… it seems like you need a bit more training.”
Hearing this, Luo Qianyun looked at Xu Jia and realized she was in much better shape than she was.
This made Luo Qianyun think she should start exercising. It seemed like there were many benefits to it.
Earlier, Lu Yunzheng had also suggested that she should train.
