Chapter 34
Liu Xiao’e had fallen hard, and Chen Fang and Zhao Cuihua helped her up.
“Second Sister-in-law, are you okay?” Chen Fang asked with concern.
Although she didn’t like to interact with her sisters-in-law, she thought this whole family was a bunch of poor people, so it was useless to interact with anyone. But she wouldn’t let someone die.
“Mom, come here quickly!” Zhou Jiaojiao shouted excitedly from ahead.
Zhao Cuihua just thought it was strange!
Sure enough, she should have listened to Big Sister-in-law more!
When they got there, they saw Zhou Jiaojiao in a small ditch ahead, where she had discovered a large patch of wolfberry vines. The wolfberry vines were entwined with the pine trees on the edge of the ditch. The entire patch of wolfberry vines was densely covered with bright red wolfberries, making Zhao Guifen’s eyes widen.
These were all good things!
Why were there so many good things in the mountains this year?
Speaking of which, where did she roll to? Why hadn’t she come here before?
Zhao Cuihua and the others also discovered that this place was remote and difficult to walk, so people generally wouldn’t come here.
“Quickly pick them, pick all of them, and then we’ll walk further ahead and see.” Zhao Guifen felt more and more cheated. So many good things, they had to share a part with the eldest son’s family, how long would it take to earn it back?
That old man was really something!
Compared to the mountains, the people at home were much quieter.
Bai Xiuxiu stayed in the house with her children, having a little feast and telling them stories.
After the children fell asleep, she started knitting, not caring at all what the people outside were doing!
What did it matter to her if the Wang family worked themselves to death?
Maybe if she continued to annoy the Wang family, Zhou Jiaojiao would want to kill her? Then, she would probably be attacked by the same person as in her previous life.
She wouldn’t let anyone who wanted to harm her go unpunished.
The Wang family, who were mean to Wang Qinghe and her children, and who lived off Wang Qinghe’s blood, wouldn’t have a good life either.
The net she was weaving would soon catch prey.
“Mom, you’re smiling so scarily. Did someone bully you?” Mingming, who had woken up halfway through his sleep, rubbed his eyes and saw his mother’s strange smile, feeling puzzled.
Bai Xiuxiu looked up at her worried son, her heart softened.
She hugged her son and rubbed his head: “Yes, someone bullied Mom, and Mom is thinking about how to bully them back.”
Mingming’s eyes lit up when he heard this: “Mom, Mingming will help you beat the bad guys. Anyone who bullies Mom is a bad guy!”
Bai Xiuxiu was amused by him, but when she thought about the fact that her precious son would later grow up to be a hooligan, she couldn’t laugh anymore. So she looked at her son with a cold face and seriously said: “Mingming, if someone bullies you, you have to use your brain and use a more civilized way to bully them back.
It’s better to use your brain than to fight, you know?
Of course, Mom is here, no one will bully you.”
He was still a little bean, he didn’t understand such profound things.
He was only two years old, his eyes were full of innocence and naivety.
Bai Xiuxiu coaxed her son back to sleep, looked at her two children, and started thinking about educating them!
As evening approached.
The whole family who went to the mountains returned in a grand procession.
When they entered the courtyard, Bai Xiuxiu saw through the window that her mother-in-law, Zhao Guifen, had a black face and was being helped in by Chen Fang, limping, with many scratches on her face.
Following her was Zhao Cuihua carrying Liu Xiao’e on her back.
Behind them was Zhou Jiaojiao, carrying a bunch of things.
And her husband, Wang Qinghe, was at the very back.
When they entered the courtyard, Zhao Guifen, despite her injuries, didn’t forget the important thing: “Eldest son, where’s your prey?”
After Wang Qinghe entered the courtyard, he took out his prey.
Five rabbits, it seemed like he had found a rabbit burrow.
And two pheasants.
In other families, if they found so much meat, they would be overjoyed.
But it was different for Zhao Guifen.
“Didn’t you usually hunt bigger animals? Are you trying to fool me?” Zhao Guifen narrowed her triangular eyes and looked up and down at her eldest son unhappily.
Wang Qinghe’s attitude was normal: “Mom, I told you, it’s not the season yet. This is the harvest if you go to the mountains now. If you think it’s not good, then I won’t go from tomorrow.”
“What? You want to quit because I said a few words to you? You ungrateful wretch! You’ve been corrupted by your wife!”
Zhao Guifen scolded angrily.
Old Lady Feng, who lived next door to the Wang family, happened to come out to pour water.
Hearing her scolding, she curiously looked into the courtyard, and Zhao Guifen quickly hid the prey behind her.
“Oh, scolding your eldest son again?” Old Lady Feng was strong and almost sixty years old.
Her hair was tied up in a bun, and she had a pair of silver earrings on her ears.
She was wearing a blue cotton shirt, although it was faded, it didn’t have any patches.
At first glance, she was a lively old lady. She had three sons and two daughters, and three grandsons and four granddaughters, all of whom were old enough to go to school.
Her life was neither good nor bad.
She looked into the courtyard and couldn’t help but sneer.
Zhao Guifen’s face turned black, and she retorted rudely: “What does it have to do with you?”
Zhao Guifen despised this old lady next door the most. She had been interfering in her family’s affairs, taking advantage of the fact that she was older.
“Nothing, just can’t stand it. I think your eldest son is hardworking and capable. Zhao Guifen, you’re too biased, be careful of karma.” After finishing, the old lady carried her bucket back to her own courtyard.
Zhao Guifen’s face turned ashen with anger: “Who’s going to suffer karma? I, I’m scolding my own son, how could I suffer karma? You old hag, mind your own business!”
“Alright! What are you arguing about?” Wang Shoucheng, who was working, scolded her with a black face.
His eyes fell on Bai Xiuxiu, who had just opened the door.
He had originally wanted his wife to scold his eldest son a few more times, just in case he slacked off later.
But… his eldest daughter-in-law had come out!
This eldest daughter-in-law was a real troublemaker! As soon as she appeared, something was bound to happen! It was better to just let things go.
He put down his work and looked at the small pile of prey. Although he hoped his son could get better things.
But this prey was already pretty good.
“The eldest son has done well, what else do you want? Go inside.”
Wang Shoucheng rarely put on a kind fatherly face.
Although Zhao Guifen was unwilling, she felt that she had been taken advantage of by her eldest son’s family today, but she still knew to listen to her husband.
The people who had been in the mountains had a harvest, and the people who had been working at home didn’t feel like working anymore.
They all went into the house.
When Bai Xiuxiu came over, she took Wang Qinghe’s hand.
She was very satisfied with his prey, neither too much nor too little.
The moment his hand was taken, Wang Qinghe’s heart felt as sweet as honey.
He had also seen a wild beehive in the mountains today. He would find some tools tomorrow and get some honey for Xiuxiu.
They were running low on honey at home.
The two of them went into the house. Zhao Guifen, like a victorious general, displayed her achievements in front of everyone: “These are all what we brought back!”
