Fleeing From Famine, My Entire Family Was Reborn Chapter 7

Chapter 7: Transportation

Su Yin took a handful of broken silver and went to the clothing store, leaving Su Baozhu to watch over the basket.

Upon entering the clothing store, the clerk noticed her attire and initially ignored her.

Unperturbed, Su Yin pointed to the plain clothes hanging on the wall, “Mister, I’ll take two of those.”

The man glanced at her hand and cautioned, “Girl, those plain clothes may look simple, but they are all made of cotton, and the price is not cheap.”

“How much?” Su Yin inquired.

“One set is three hundred cents, and two sets are only six hundred cents.”

Typically, one piece of cotton cost two hundred cents, with one piece of cloth making one suit. It was more than enough, as the extra material could be used as lining. For a set priced at three hundred cents, ordinary families would find it quite costly. Most would opt to purchase a piece of cloth and sew it themselves, which was both suitable and affordable.

Without wasting any time and with money in her pocket, it was most economical for Su Yin to buy ready-made clothes.

She didn’t engage in unnecessary chatter and simply handed over a piece of silver. The clerk was visibly surprised upon seeing the silver piece. He immediately put on a smile and fetched the clothes from the rack.

Su Yin also bought linings and new shoes, completely transforming herself from head to toe.

“Is there a changing room in your store?” she inquired.

“Yes, yes, I’ll show you,” the clerk replied eagerly.

Su Yin finally shed her patched clothes and donned comfortable, clean new attire, feeling refreshed.

As the attendant observed the freshly dressed Su Yin, a hint of surprise flickered in his eyes, and he couldn’t help but muse inwardly.

This young peasant girl had undergone a remarkable change simply by changing her clothes. She now exuded an air of sophistication, akin to a child from a prominent family.

Su Yin picked up another set of clothes and the discarded rags she had taken off, then exited the clothing store. Before leaving, she inquired about the prices of linen and ready-made quilts. She wanted to familiarize herself with the prices without making any rash purchases.

She didn’t intend to buy there, considering she had just acquired a new outfit and made several purchases, which could easily draw unwanted attention.

In times like these, you have to be more careful.

After leaving the shop and walking into the alley, Su Yin heard Su Baozhu calling out for help.

“Don’t come over here.”

Su Yin’s heart raced, and she hurried over, rushing into the alley to find two rough men encircling Su Baozhu. Su Baozhu clutched the backpack tightly, facing the two men with a mix of fear and defiance in her eyes.

“Don’t come over here, don’t come over here.”

The two men looked warily at Su Yin when they saw her approaching. She appeared well-dressed and from a respectable family.

“Little lady, I suggest you mind your own business.”

Su Baozhu’s eyes lit up when she saw Su Yin, “Yinzi.”

“Oh, you two know each other?”

Su Yin didn’t respond, she simply stepped forward, and before the man could speak, she swiftly struck both of them.

The two men were taken aback.

How could this person disregard martial ethics and resort to a surprise attack!

“You, you dare…”

Before one of them could finish his sentence, Su Yin grabbed the other man’s arm, expertly threw him over her shoulder, and slammed him to the ground.

“Ouch!” The man on the ground groaned in pain.

The other man, seeing Su Yin’s fierce gaze, retreated in fear, “Don’t come here.”

“Get out!”

Without a word, the man ran off. As the man on the ground noticed his companion fleeing, he quickly got up and fled as well.

These second-rate people who aren’t doing their jobs are bullies and thugs. Talking politely will only encourage them to push further.

After the crisis was over, Su Baozhu finally relaxed. A pair of big eyes stared at her, “Yinzi, you are so powerful.”

Su Yin waved her hand nonchalantly.

She hadn’t used much force against these two scoundrels.

When she was at Blue Star, she had served in the special department, but was forced to retire because she offended a certain second-generation heir.

This body is weak and cannot be compared with her previous life, but it could still perform some simple defensive and attacking movements.

“Are you injured?”

“I’m fine.”

“It’s okay.” Su Yin put the package into her hand, “Go and change some clothes.”

Su Baozhu came out after changing clothes, and walked hand in hand. “My feet are a little uncomfortable.”

“Are the clothes uncomfortable?”

“No, no.” Su Baozhu shook her head hurriedly, “Yes, the clothes are too good. I have never worn such good clothes. I’m afraid of getting them dirty.”

“Just bring the clothes. Just wash it if it gets dirty.” Don’t worry too much.

Even though she understood what Su Yin meant, Su Baozhu was still worried about getting the new clothes dirty.

“Where should we go next?”

“The horse market is open today.”

The county where they are located is just a small county. The horse market is not open every day, but only every few days. People who need to buy or sell will wait for the market to open that day.

Transportation is crucial when escaping from the wilderness. A carriage can carry more supplies, and people will be relatively relaxed. Su Yin shuddered at the thought of carrying all their belongings on his back alone.

As soon as they arrived at the horse market, a strong stench hit them.

The horse market was bustling with activity, with many customers examining the livestock.

Some stall owners noticed Su Yin and the two. Although women were not common at the horse market, it wasn’t unheard of, and they didn’t attract much attention. Seeing they were well-dressed, some stall owners approached them.

“You two girls, what are you looking to buy?”

“Do you have mules here?”

“Oh, you’ve come to the right place. Two mules just arrived at our stall, both adults and very strong.”

“Show me.”

“Okay.”

The stall owner led them to his stall.

“That’s the one in front. Everything in the stall is from our family.”

There were horses, cows, donkeys, and mules in the stall. Quite a variety. “Look at our mules, aren’t they very strong?” the boss boasted.

Su Yin didn’t respond. Instead, she walked into the stall and inspected the mule up close. To determine if the mule was good or bad, she first looked at the shine of its coat, whether its teeth were straight, and whether there was any redness, swelling, or tears in its eye sockets.

She touched the mule’s back with her hands, checking if it was flat and if there were any depressions or protrusions. She then checked the condition of its limbs and the health of its hooves, and finally looked at the mule’s expression.

After Su Yin finished her inspection, she determined that there was nothing wrong with the mule and asked, “How much does it cost?”

The horse dealer had initially thought the young girl was naive, but after witnessing Su Yin’s thorough examination, he realized she wasn’t easy to fool.

He didn’t dare to raise the price arbitrarily, “Fifty-five taels.”
