Chapter 10
After waiting for a long time, Zhu Jia did not show any signs of shock or sadness. Instead, she casually glanced at Qian Meng, almost as if she didn’t care at all, even showing a hint of subtle disdain.
Qian Meng almost thought she had seen it wrong and angrily tried to fan the flames. “I really don’t know who the hidden wife of Young Master Mo is, someone so precious that he keeps her a secret. Seems like she’s something he cherishes dearly!”
On the side, Qian Lu frowned slightly and said, “Sister, don’t say any more. Maybe Young Master Mo was just forced to marry in order to recognize the child. Their relationship might not even be that good.”
Qian Meng’s eyes widened. “Sister, stop overthinking! You don’t really want to be a stepmother, do you? How embarrassing!”
Qian Lu’s face immediately flushed with a mix of red and white as she bit her lip.
Zhu Jia: …
Zhu Jia couldn’t help but silently scoff in her heart. Is this how the setup in old novels always goes? All the women in the world fall for the male lead, and when the male lead gets married and has children, it’s always portrayed in their wild imaginations as something he was forced into. Zhu Jia really wanted to dismantle these love-struck brains and see how much water was in them.
“I still have a few dresses to try on, excuse me.” Zhu Jia didn’t want to get involved in the argument between the two sisters.
Qian Meng shot her a cold glance, while Qian Lu stared thoughtfully at Zhu Jia’s retreating figure as she entered the fitting room.
Qian Lu tugged at Qian Meng’s hand. “Sister, don’t you think Zhu Jia has changed?”
Qian Meng snorted. “Changed? She’s just pretending. She always liked to put on an act before too.”
Qian Lu pressed her lips together but didn’t speak further.
Zhu Jia had a productive day, picking out two dresses—a pale yellow off-the-shoulder gown that touched the floor and a black backless dress. Both dresses made her very happy. It seemed like the best thing about being in this novel was getting to wear these beautiful gowns.
As soon as she finished, Zhu Jia rushed home to take care of Xiao Wen. When she arrived, she frowned as Xiao Wen’s crying was so loud that it could be heard clearly from the first floor, his voice hoarse. Even when Liu Yi was holding him, the crying didn’t stop.
Liu Yi’s anxious expression was hard to hide as she paced around the room, holding Xiao Wen. “Madam, ever since you left, Xiao Wen has been crying nonstop. He refuses to eat when I try to feed him, and he won’t sleep when I try to comfort him.”
Zhu Jia immediately took Xiao Wen into her arms, her brow furrowing deeply. This was strange—Xiao Wen seemed fine in the morning. What could have happened? Was he feeling unwell?
System: “Host, Xiao Wen might be uncomfortable because of gas in his stomach. Try checking if his belly feels hard.”
Zhu Jia immediately felt Xiao Wen’s stomach. Sure enough, it was a little round and swollen, and he kept wriggling and arching his back, looking very restless.
Zhu Jia felt heartbroken and panicked like an ant on a hot pan. “System, what should I do if the baby has gas?”
System: “You can try massaging his belly in a clockwise direction. For the next few days, let him lie on his tummy more and do some gas release exercises!”
Zhu Jia quickly cleaned her hands, placed Xiao Wen on the bed, and squeezed some baby massage oil into her palms, warming it up quickly. She unbuttoned a few of Xiao Wen’s belly buttons to expose his little stomach and gently placed her palms on his belly. Then she alternated her hands, massaging in a clockwise direction.
After a while, Zhu Jia noticed that Xiao Wen seemed to be quietly straining, wriggling and making little noises. Zhu Jia squeezed another pump of massage oil, warmed it, and repeated the process.
After a while, they suddenly heard a small “pfft…” sound. Zhu Jia let out a quiet sigh of relief. It seemed like Xiao Wen had passed some gas, so his discomfort would likely improve now.
But just as Zhu Jia was about to feel happy, she noticed dark stains spreading out on her white bedsheet beneath Xiao Wen. Her heart sank, and she carefully lifted him up.
Sure enough! There was a large, dark yellow stain on the back of Xiao Wen’s clothes and the white bed sheets, accompanied by a strange smell. Zhu Jia felt like crying and hurriedly carried Xiao Wen to the bathroom…
Chapter 8: The Full Moon Banquet
Before long, it was time for Xiao Wen’s full moon banquet. The event was scheduled to start in the afternoon and end with dinner in the evening, held at a five-star hotel in the city center.
Shortly after noon, a few makeup artists arrived at Zhu Jia’s house to do her makeup and styling. Zhu Jia handed Xiao Wen over to Liu Yi to look after, took a shower, put on a bathrobe, and sat down at the vanity in her dressing room.
The makeup artist carefully applied her foundation, and it had to be said that Zhu Jia’s skin was flawless—smooth and delicate, like peeled lychee. However, today, there were faint dark circles under her eyes, and her gaze conveyed an undeniable exhaustion.
Zhu Jia was really tired. Xiao Wen had been suffering from stomach gas lately, crying loudly at night. She had to get up in the middle of the night and walk him around to soothe him. Thankfully, after doing the gas release exercises a few times, Xiao Wen’s condition had improved significantly, and he was sleeping for longer stretches today.
Zhu Jia couldn’t help but close her eyes and fall asleep while the makeup and hairstyling were being done. When she woke up, her makeup and hair were finished. She looked at herself in the mirror, and her complexion was glowing—her cheeks were rosy, and her lips were bright. Zhu Jia usually gave off a harmless and pure vibe, but after her makeup, her sharp features made her look strikingly beautiful. Her hair was styled into loose waves, black, smooth, and shiny like satin.
Zhu Jia changed into her pale yellow gown and high heels, looking so radiant she seemed to glow. She was thoroughly pleased with her outfit. She twirled in front of the full-length mirror, playing with her hair, striking a pose with her hands on her hips, and even winked at her reflection.
Just then, she heard a faint chuckle from not far away. Zhu Jia froze for a moment. Turning around, she saw Mo Yichen standing in the doorway of the room. She couldn’t help but blush deeply, wondering if he had seen her just now admiring herself in the mirror.
Thankfully, Mo Yichen just calmly said, “It’s time. Let’s go.”
Zhu Jia looked him over. At first glance, he seemed the same as usual, but upon closer inspection, she noticed the two expensive diamond cufflinks on his sleeves and the dark yellow leather tie, which matched her gown perfectly. It was as if they had coordinated their outfits in advance.
