Chapter 8 Obtaining Weapons
After dinner, the two sisters ate their fill, wiped themselves down with water from the water purifier, changed into their pajamas, and went to bed.
The bed was already made. Lu Chenxi used the air conditioner blanket as a mattress, and the sisters covered themselves with the blanket Chenyue had received from the sign-in today, using the new pillows.
It has to be said that the system was generous. The new blanket was 2.4 meters long, and even the pillows were double-sized.
But Lu Chenxi didn’t know that not every player who received a blanket got such a large one.
For example, another player who was also in the ocean area at this time.
Chenyue was also assigned to the ocean area after entering the survival game. She also started with a small island and a dilapidated hut.
Fortunately, she had been lucky since she was a child. Through the system sign-in and the treasure chests that floated nearby, she had enough to live for a few days.
She also opened a 1.2-meter-long blanket in a red treasure chest. It was thanks to this small blanket that she didn’t catch a cold last night. So even though the blanket was small, she was quite content.
Now she desperately needed a bed. People who were used to sleeping on beds couldn’t sleep well on the floor. She had tossed and turned all night and woken up many times.
Chenyue lay there, checking the information in the trading hall, to see if anyone had a bed from a treasure chest for sale.
Lu Chenxi on the other side wasn’t idle either. She didn’t waste any time before going to sleep every night, carefully sifting through the information in the trading hall.
After spending a lot of time, filtering out those who wanted to get something for nothing and items she didn’t need, she finally found what she wanted.
[(Iron x2) Trade (500 ml Water and 200 ml Food)]
Lu Chenxi quickly clicked on the trade and successfully obtained the iron needed to upgrade her house.
She sighed with relief at her good luck, patted her sister’s cheek, and then continued to search.
She saw a few more items she wanted, but she didn’t win the speed race. She simply gave up and decided to try again tomorrow.
It was the second day. Judging from the items traded in the trading hall, Lu Chenxi found that most players were quite capable. She closed the system panel, hugged her warm sister, and slowly drifted off to sleep.
The third day
Lu Chenxi woke up naturally, but she woke up relatively early because she had things on her mind. According to the system, the newbie protection period was only three days.
So starting tomorrow, or maybe even tonight, the sea might become dangerous.
Lu Chenxi decided that she had to upgrade the hut to Level 2 today.
She woke up her sister, and the two of them did a simple wash-up. After all, they had toothbrushes now. Then they entered the daily sign-in phase.
[Daily Sign-in]
[Ding, congratulations to player Lu Chenxi for receiving the sign-in reward: Watermelon x1, Planks x4, 500 ml Pure Water x5]
[Ding, congratulations to player Lu Chenyue for receiving the sign-in reward: Stones x10, Roasted Chicken Leg x10, Fish Spear x1]
Lu Chenxi hadn’t even had time to praise the system for being so generous today.
She saw that her sister’s sign-in reward included a fish spear. She picked it up and examined it carefully:
[Fish Spear: Level 1
Function: Can be used to attack Level 1 creatures. Not very effective against Level 1 or higher creatures]
Seeing this description, Lu Chenxi was pleasantly surprised. With a weapon, she felt much safer.
She put the planks and stones she got from the sign-in today into her space. After counting, Lu Chenxi realized that she only needed [Planks x6, Stones x10] to upgrade the hut. It wouldn’t be surprising if she could successfully upgrade it today.
Then she looked at the watermelon and chicken legs. The watermelon and chicken legs rewarded by the system were quite large. The watermelon was about 20 pounds, and the chicken legs were about 1 pound each.
Seeing Chenyue staring at the watermelon with shining eyes, she quickly went to the kitchen and took out a cleaver. She swiftly cut the watermelon into pieces about half a pound each, making a total of 40 pieces.
She kept two pieces for breakfast this morning and put the rest in her space along with the chicken legs.
After taking care of breakfast, Lu Chenxi told her sister to go outside and fish and to keep an eye out for any treasure chests floating by.
She then opened the trading panel and listed three [250g Watermelon x1 Trade (Planks x2)] and five [250g Watermelon x1 Trade (Stones x2)].
Soon, she saw that all the trades were successful. Many people who didn’t get any sent her private messages asking if she had any more watermelon.
Lu Chenxi took a look. She still had 30 pieces of watermelon left in her space. It seemed like a lot, but she wasn’t sure if she could get more later, so she didn’t want to trade them away. She wanted to keep them for her sister to enjoy.
Chenyue’s favorite fruit was watermelon, but she had always controlled her intake because children could get diarrhea from eating too much watermelon.
Just then, she heard her sister start to shout, “Sister, come quickly! I see three treasure chests! One of them is yellow!”
Lu Chenxi immediately ran to her sister’s side. Sure enough, there were three treasure chests floating not too far or too close to them.
She heard Chenyue continue, “A few waves suddenly crashed over, and these three treasure chests floated over.”
Lu Chenxi replied, “Then we’re very lucky today. Do you want to reel in the treasure chests yourself, or do you want Sister to help?”
Chenyue looked up at her sister, “Sister, can I do it myself? I can help you do a lot of things too.”
“Of course, Chenyue is the best! You’re Sister’s good helper.”
The water surface wasn’t as calm this time, so it took a while to reel in the treasure chests.
The last yellow treasure chest was too far away, and they couldn’t reel it in. Even Lu Chenxi tried many times, but she also failed.
So Lu Chenxi had to take off her outer clothes and go into the water to retrieve the treasure chest.
After all, it was a yellow treasure chest. If they lost it, they would be losing a lot.
But it was a sunny day, so going into the water was fine. When the temperature dropped later, they would have to figure out a way.
Next came the most anticipated part: opening the treasure chests.
This time, there were one red, one orange, and one yellow treasure chest. Lu Chenxi only found out later that on the last day of the newbie period, the system might want to give everyone a little bonus. All the players got some pretty good rewards.
First, the red treasure chest yielded [10kg Bag of Rice x1, 1kg Bag of Sugar x1, Cold Medicine x3].
The orange treasure chest yielded [Fertile Soil x1, Cabbage Seeds x10, Tomato Seeds x10, Radish Seeds x10].
The yellow treasure chest yielded [Territory x1, Crossbow x1, Small Dinghy x1].
Looking at the items from the treasure chests, Lu Chenxi first took the weapon she considered most important, the crossbow. The system panel showed the following description:
[Crossbow: Level 2
Function: Can be used to attack Level 1 creatures. Can only be fired three times a day. After three times, it needs to cool down for 24 hours]
