Chapter 20 Sudden Downpour
A wave of aromas wafted in, and the living room table was laden with a feast of delicious dishes: rice, steamed lobster, braised rabbit, wild chicken stewed with mushrooms, stir-fried cabbage, pan-fried cod, and scrambled eggs with scallions.
Among them, the mushrooms and scallions were obtained by Lu Chenxi through trading in the trading hall.
After preparing everything, Lu Chenxi had already portioned out enough food for two people for each dish, storing the rest in the space for preservation.
Chenyue, seeing the table overflowing with delicacies (of course, because the table wasn’t very big), her eyes lit up, and she unconsciously swallowed.
Lu Chenxi, seeing this, felt a pang of heartache mixed with amusement.
Back on Blue Star, when Lu Chenxi was young, her parents’ relationship was still good. Although that man wanted a son, he was also quite fond of his only daughter, and whenever there was something good to eat or drink, he would bring it home.
However, after Chenyue was born, that man’s relationship with her mother grew colder. He rarely gave them living expenses, probably giving it all to his mistress outside. Because they had little income, the mother and daughter lived in a rather impoverished state.
So, to be honest, Chenyue had never eaten such large lobsters or cod. After all, both were quite expensive, and her mother usually couldn’t bear to buy them home. The fish they usually ate were cheaper ones like crucian carp and grass carp.
No longer dwelling on those unhappy memories, Lu Chenxi said to Chenyue, “Little glutton, come sit down, it’s time to eat!”
The two sisters ate until they were full, and Chenyue even said she wanted to eat such delicious food every day.
Lu Chenxi, of course, agreed with a smile. As long as Chenyue was willing to eat, she could make her eat until she was sick of it.
Because they had eaten so much, after cleaning up the kitchen, Lu Chenxi went out for a walk with Chenyue to help them digest.
They had only been out for a few minutes when a sudden gust of wind swept in. The once calm sea surface was whipped up into waves by the wind.
After a clap of thunder, the sky seemed to crack open into countless fissures, and the torrential rain poured down like a waterfall.
This caught Lu Chenxi and Chenyue off guard, and they were instantly soaked to the bone. They quickly ran back home.
In just a short while, as the rain fell, the temperature dropped sharply.
It had been around thirty degrees when they were eating, but now it was only about ten degrees.
After entering the room, Chenyue shivered uncontrollably. Lu Chenxi happened to see this and quickly found a towel to dry all the rainwater off Chenyue.
Then, she hurriedly boiled some water, preparing to give Chenyue a hot bath first, fearing that she might catch a cold.
After a flurry of activity, she cleaned up Chenyue and tucked her into bed before taking a quick bath herself using the water Chenyue had used. By now, she was freezing cold from wearing damp clothes.
Just as Lu Chenxi finished her bath, the temperature dropped another five or six degrees, now probably below ten degrees.
Lu Chenxi quickly rummaged through the closet and found two cotton coats she had obtained through sign-ins. Both coats were adult sizes, obviously not suitable for Chenyue’s size. But it didn’t matter, they could be worn loosely if they were too big, but they wouldn’t fit if they were too small.
After putting on the cotton coats, they weren’t as cold, but Lu Chenxi still got into bed and took out the down comforter she had stored away and put it on top of the existing blanket.
Lu Chenxi, feeling warmer, couldn’t help but exclaim, “They say June weather is like a child’s face, changing with the wind. That’s certainly true, the weather changed so suddenly.”
Chenyue didn’t hear anything else, her focus was on “a child’s face, changing with the wind.” With a look of incomprehension, she asked, “Sister, I’m a child, but I can’t change my face, can I?”
“Hahaha, Chenyue, you’re so cute,” Lu Chenxi was instantly amused.
Chenyue understood this sentence: “Of course, Chenyue is the cutest child.”
Looking at Chenyue, who was so matter-of-fact, Lu Chenxi almost burst into laughter, “Yes, yes, you’re the cutest, no one can compare to you.”
Having a child around sometimes brings endless joy, but sometimes it also brings trouble.
After their laughter and chatter subsided, their mood calmed down. By now, it was completely dark outside. It was only around 3 pm, and normally there wasn’t even a hint of dusk.
It was too early to go to sleep, so Lu Chenxi simply took out the solar-powered lamp she had. This lamp had been fully charged and hadn’t been used much, only occasionally when she got up to use the bathroom at night, so the battery was almost full.
Here, I have to praise the system’s products once again. They are truly extraordinary. This lamp’s lighting function is as bright as a normal light bulb, and the user experience is excellent.
After setting up the lamp, Lu Chenxi opened the system panel to see how other players were doing.
[Chat Channel]
[Damn, what kind of weather is this? It was sunny, and then less than a minute later, it started thundering and raining, and it’s pouring down!]
[This isn’t rain anymore, it’s like someone’s pouring water directly from the sky.]
[Exactly, I was just searching for supplies, and I got soaked like a drowned rat.]
[You guys are fine, I almost got struck by lightning, I was so scared I almost died on the spot.]
[Supplies are already hard to collect, and with this heavy rain, I can’t go out at all. I wonder how long this rain will last?]
[Yeah, and it suddenly got cold, I’m freezing. Thank goodness for the cotton clothes I got from the sign-in reward.]
[I’m completely soaked, I’m making ginger soup now. Anyone who needs it can trade with me.]
[The person above is so business-minded, I want to trade for a portion.]
[Me too, me too.]
[Ginger soup isn’t expensive, why do you want everyone to trade for it? Just give everyone a bowl, what’s wrong with you, you’re so heartless.]
…
Lu Chenxi saw that the chat area was dominated by the ginger soup topic for a while, and she wondered if she should make some too.
While Lu Chenxi was pondering, Chenyue also saw this topic. On Blue Star, Chenyue had also drunk ginger soup, and the taste was unforgettable.
Seeing that her sister had the idea of making ginger soup, Chenyue strongly dissuaded her: “Sister, we don’t need to drink ginger soup, we only got a little wet, just a little bit on our clothes, we won’t catch a cold.”
Lu Chenxi thought what Chenyue said made sense. Besides, she didn’t want to leave her warm bed, what if she caught a cold because she got up to make ginger soup?
So, in the end, Lu Chenxi didn’t make ginger soup. She was simply too lazy, definitely not because ginger soup was too disgusting.
Things in this world are always so coincidental. Because she didn’t like the taste of ginger soup, Lu Chenxi, who had given up on making it, gloriously caught a cold.
