Chapter 15: Rescue
Not good!
Shen Sangyu reacted the fastest and ran over.
The soldiers on guard also rushed to check the situation.
As Shen Sangyu approached the vehicle involved in the accident, she immediately smelled a strong odor of gasoline.
Looking down, she noticed that the fuel tank was leaking!
With such a violent collision, the vehicle was very likely to catch fire and explode.
Shen Sangyu did not dare to hesitate and immediately grabbed the door handle, pulling it with all her strength, but no matter how hard she tried, the door wouldn’t budge.
The soldiers who rushed over tried the same thing, but after several attempts, there was still no response.
Shen Sangyu attempted to wake the two people inside the car, but due to the severe impact, they had fallen into a coma and their condition appeared critical.
We can’t delay any longer!
Shen Sangyu made a quick decision: “Brother, go back and call for help, and call an ambulance while you’re at it.”
When the soldier heard this, he didn’t have time to think and hurried back to find help.
There weren’t many strangers near the military area; most were workers who had just finished work and were heading home for dinner.
They stood by, hesitant to approach when they saw the leaking fuel.
Seeing the fuel leaking more and more, and with time running out, Shen Sangyu gritted her teeth and found a stone from the roadside to smash the car window.
After hitting it more than ten times, the window finally cracked.
Snap!
After one last hit, the window shattered, and glass fell everywhere.
Shen Sangyu’s eyes lit up, and she could see the two middle-aged people, a man and a woman, sitting inside the car.
Their bodies were covered in blood, indicating serious injuries.
Ignoring the glass that could cut her hands, she reached in to open the passenger door.
“Auntie, can you hear me?”
The middle-aged woman, with a pretty face, opened her eyes dazedly.
The next moment, she suddenly looked at her husband beside her and exclaimed, “Girl, please save my husband, please save my husband…”
The woman was very weak, and Shen Sangyu herself had a head injury, feeling a bit unsteady.
But seeing the woman’s panic, Shen Sangyu patiently reassured her: “Don’t worry, Auntie, I will do my best to rescue you.”
After checking that the woman’s body wasn’t stuck, Shen Sangyu sighed in relief and quickly pulled the middle-aged woman out of the car.
At that moment, the people who went to seek help hurried back.
Shen Sangyu was stunned when she recognized the figure running in the front, but quickly regained her focus and smashed the window of the driver’s side with a stone.
When Wen Qingchuan arrived, Shen Sangyu had already broken the glass.
Just as she was about to reach in to open the door, someone shouted: “The car is on fire!”
The next second, Shen Sangyu felt a buzzing in her ears as she stumbled back several steps.
She thought she was going to fall, but suddenly, her fall was halted by a strong, powerful arm.
Shen Sangyu looked up with a pale face.
It was Wen Qingchuan.
Wen Qingchuan looked anxious: “Are you okay?”
Shen Sangyu shook her head and glanced at the car. The trunk was on fire, and thick smoke was billowing out.
“Wen Qingchuan…”
Before she could finish, Wen Qingchuan had already stepped forward, reached into the car to open the door, and quickly pulled out the middle-aged man from the driver’s seat.
The entire action was smooth and completed in the blink of an eye.
Buzz
Wen Qingchuan dragged the man three meters away from the car, and the fire inside suddenly flared up.
Shen Sangyu reacted quickly and said urgently: “Wen Qingchuan, we need to evacuate quickly. I saw the fuel tank leaking oil just now. The fire could cause an explosion.”
Wen Qingchuan immediately understood the gravity of the situation.
“Shen Xu, you go and organize the crowd. Lao Li, you take the two injured people out to safety.”
Wen Qingchuan said, his eyes falling on Shen Sangyu’s cut fingertips: “You should evacuate quickly too.”
At this moment, Shen Sangyu had no intention of showing off her strength; she nodded and ran away quickly.
Wen Qingchuan handled the situation appropriately. He found a fire extinguisher to suppress the fire first.
With teamwork, they managed to extinguish the flames, leaving only a charred shell of the Santana.
As soon as the fire was out, a simple ambulance arrived, and the doctors quickly transported the injured couple to the hospital.
The accident had happened suddenly, but fortunately, there was no grave danger.
Shen Sangyu watched the ambulance leave, hoping that the couple would be okay.
In her previous life, the teacher’s parents had also died in a car accident.
At that time, the car door had not been opened in time, and flames had engulfed his parents.
The teacher’s parents were burned to death.
Shen Sangyu sighed softly, and when she came to her senses, she suddenly felt as though she had forgotten something.
She looked around and saw that the aluminum lunch box she had thrown on the ground had been kicked by someone passing by and was now scattered everywhere.
“What are you looking at?” Wen Qingchuan saw Shen Sangyu scanning the area as if searching for something and walked over.
“All the dishes I brought back from the Peace Hotel are scattered. It looks like we can only eat in the cafeteria tonight.”
Shen Sangyu turned back when she heard Wen Qingchuan’s voice, her tone filled with helplessness.
Wen Qingchuan noticed the dishes strewn across the ground and felt a pang of pain in his heart.
But ultimately, he gritted his teeth and said, “Next time, I’ll take you to eat on my day off.”
Although the Peace Hotel is a bit expensive, he would do his best to satisfy Shen Sangyu’s wishes.
Shen Sangyu was unaware of Wen Qingchuan’s thoughts. While she felt distressed, she still went to the guard to borrow a broom.
In the end, it was Wen Qingchuan who swept the floor.
Wen Qingchuan’s training was not over yet, so Shen Sangyu was alone on the way back. However, Wen Qingchuan brought food back from the cafeteria that evening.
When Shen Sangyu opened it, she saw that it was exactly the same as the dishes she had packed from earlier.
Shen Sangyu was in a very good mood and said, “Wen Qingchuan, I will start working in the city in a few days.”
Wen Qingchuan paused, a bit surprised: “So fast?”
“Yeah.” Shen Sangyu felt happy and shared details about her salary.
In her previous life, as a scientific researcher, her salary was not high, but she earned a lot in extra income. Sometimes, a single patent could yield significant returns.
But this life was different. While she had money, it was all Wen Qingchuan’s, and she felt that the money didn’t feel real to her. It was better to earn her own.
Wen Qingchuan was very surprised to hear that Shen Sangyu’s salary was so high, but then he admired her even more.
When he was a child, his family was poor, and he didn’t have the opportunity to study.
His parents in his hometown urged him to go out and find work, but the era was already tough, and few people could find jobs.
Additionally, the turbulent times forced him to beg for food at the age of sixteen, and he eventually became a soldier.
Over the years, he had lived a hard life, which made him appreciate the value of education more than anyone else.
Just like now, Shen Sangyu only needed to sit in an office to translate books, making good money easily.
The more Wen Qingchuan thought about it, the happier he became. He stood up from the chair.
The chair creaked loudly, but Wen Qingchuan didn’t care. He said cheerfully, “I’ll go fry two eggs for you!”
Shen Sangyu: “…”
Seeing Wen Qingchuan so happy, Shen Sangyu let him do it.
Three days passed in the blink of an eye.
The day before Shen Sangyu was to start work, Wen Qingchuan took a special leave to accompany her to the hospital to have her stitches removed, as well as to undergo another physical examination.
After the doctor confirmed that everything was fine, Wen Qingchuan felt relieved.
The next day, Shen Sangyu got on a military vehicle and went to the translation agency to report.

Author’s Note:
1. The fire extinguisher was first invented in 1816.
2. The ambulance was born in the late 18th century. At that time, the ambulances were yellow and white, but the author found some confusion about what they looked like, so let’s just think of it as a white Volga car.
