Chapter 28: Someone from My Hometown is Here
Shen Sangyu turned around and saw Wen Qingchuan holding a lunch box with a blank look on his face.
He asked in a strange tone, “Why are you looking at me?”
Wen Qingchuan straightened his lips and said, “Sorry.”
“You are not wrong.” Shen Sangyu replied, “Sometimes rumors are scary. After a long time, if more people spread them, even the rumors will come true.
You don’t know that before I married you, everyone in the compound thought you would marry Zhou Xinghua.
Even after I married you, people in the compound thought we would eventually get divorced.”
And all of this was the work of Zhou’s father and daughter.
At the beginning, they spread the rumor that Zhuang Youliang had sacrificed himself to save Wen Qingchuan, either intentionally or unintentionally.
Wen Qingchuan, who happened to believe it, went to see Zhou Xinghua and her son every month without fail.
This behavior made everyone feel guilty.
After a long time, everyone got used to it and even thought they were a perfect match.
Wen Qingchuan knew this, of course. He was silent for a while: “Zhuang Youliang and I came from the same village. He joined the army a year earlier than me.
Later, during an operation, we mistakenly entered a minefield left over from the past. Both he and I stepped on it. I was lucky to escape, but Zhuang Youliang didn’t.”
Shen Sangyu had some impression of this incident and couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for Zhuang Youliang.
But she looked at Wen Qingchuan in confusion, not understanding why he suddenly told her all this.
“Hurry up and eat first. I’ll be with you in the hospital tonight.”
The snow outside the hospital had stopped, and a thick layer of snow covered the ground, with the sky foggy.
In her previous life, Shen Sangyu was from Yu City and had rarely seen snow. In her eyes, the winter in the north was so beautiful, but after falling several times on the icy ground, she no longer thought so.
Wen Qingchuan noticed that Shen Sangyu suddenly began to lose focus, and the corners of his stiff mouth gradually raised.
He opened the stir-fried dishes in the aluminum lunch box and immediately knew it was not made by Shen Sangyu.
But even so, the dry ravine in his heart seemed to be filled with a layer of cotton, and he felt an unprecedented warmth.
After dinner, Shen Sangyu washed the aluminum lunch box and prepared to send it back to Cao Ruyue early the next morning.
There were two beds in Wen Qingchuan’s ward, and no one else had moved in yet. After washing the dishes, she simply lay on the other bed and said, “If you have anything to do at night, you can call me.”
Wen Qingchuan nodded, thought for a moment, and said, “You are busy with work and have to study. You don’t have to come here specially after you go back.”
Shen Sangyu shook her head: “It’s okay; I will bring the book to translate when the time comes.
You just need to take good care of your injuries. Studying and working are not a problem for ten days or half a month.”
Wen Qingchuan usually took care of her like this, and she wanted to take good care of him in return.
Seeing that she had made up her mind, Wen Qingchuan stopped arguing.
He touched his chest and felt that his heart was beating a little faster today.
In the past, no matter how serious the injury was, he was always alone. This was the first time that someone was with him when he was injured.
This feeling seems… pretty good.
But suddenly thinking of what happened earlier, Wen Qingchuan’s face turned cold again.
Shen Sangyu said she would take care of Wen Qingchuan, but in reality, she fell asleep as soon as her head touched the pillow that night.
It wasn’t until the next day when the nurse came to check on her that she slowly woke up.
She was momentarily stunned, and now Wen Qingchuan was looking at her with a faint smile in his eyes.
Shen Sangyu smiled awkwardly.
Wen Qingchuan suppressed his smile: “It’s still early; you can sleep a little longer.”
Shen Sangyu glanced at the sky outside the window and found it was foggy.
Shaking her head, she said: “No, I’ll ask Sister Cao to help me cook. I’ll go home first and bring you breakfast later.”
Although the food in the hospital is cheap, it’s too unpalatable.
Shen Sangyu got up and put on her clothes. When she was almost done, she suddenly asked: “What do you want to eat? I’ll ask Sister Cao to help you cook it.”
Wen Qingchuan: “I’m not picky about food, anything is fine.”
After saying that, he added with some concern, “Mrs. Cao is busy on weekdays; remember to give her money.”
Shen Sangyu nodded obediently: “Don’t worry, I gave Mrs. Cao fifty yuan.”
Wen Qingchuan: “…”
Wen Qingchuan rarely looked at Shen Sangyu for a few more moments, and finally sighed helplessly.
“What’s wrong?” Shen Sangyu asked, a little puzzled.
Wen Qingchuan was helpless, thinking that Sangyu’s father had never treated his children harshly, and 90% of his salary went to Shen Sangyu.
So it was normal for his wife to have no concept of money now, not to mention that the money was spent on herself.
“It’s nothing; just let Mrs. Cao do whatever she wants when the time comes.”
Shen Sangyu didn’t think much about it, put on a coat, and left the ward.
As soon as Shen Sangyu left, Wen Qingchuan called the nurse: “Hello, I want to borrow your landline to make a call.”
When Shen Sangyu returned home, the sky gradually brightened.
Shen Sangyu put her translation workbook and homework book into a cloth bag and then knocked on the door of Cao’s house.
Cao’s wife had been up for a while, and when she saw Shen Sangyu, she quickly handed over breakfast.
Shen Sangyu took a look and found that she had prepared too much.
Just as she was thinking, Cao Ruyue smiled and said, “Don’t just take care of Captain Wen; you have to take care of yourself too.
You can’t cook, and a meal in a restaurant costs one or two yuan. I will prepare two servings for you in the future, and you can take them to the hospital to eat with Captain Wen.”
Shen Sangyu was slightly stunned, then filled with gratitude: “Thank you, sister.”
Cao Ruyue felt warm in her heart and couldn’t help thinking that Shen Sangyu had indeed changed a lot. If it were in the past, she would never thank her.
Shen Sangyu was a little embarrassed. After all, the original owner had a bad temper before, but now Cao Ruyue attributed the mistakes to herself.
She touched her pocket and found a few white mint candies: “Neighbors should help each other. I did something wrong before. You can give this candy to Hu Zi.”
Cao Ruyue hesitated before taking the candies, seeing these expensive snacks again.
The family was in financial difficulties, so naturally, they were reluctant to buy these for the children.
Shen Sangyu was generous, and there were more than a dozen mint candies in a handful, enough for her children to eat for half a month.
Cao Ruyue looked at Shen Sangyu’s back and felt very grateful.
Shen Sangyu didn’t stay for too long. While the breakfast was still hot, she quickly took the lunch box to the hospital.
Cao Ruyue prepared a lot, and Shen Sangyu couldn’t finish her own portion, but Wen Qingchuan had a large portion, so he finished all the rest.
Fearing that Wen Qingchuan would be bored, she brought some books from home for Wen Qingchuan to read while lying in bed, while she began to translate the manuscript on the small square table.
In the snow-white room, Wen Qingchuan held a book and listened to the rustling sound of writing in the empty ward.
He looked at the girl next to him, who was fair and clean, with a high nose bridge and a few strands of hair between her temples.
At that moment, Wen Qingchuan felt that time seemed to slow down, and he just looked at the quiet and gentle Shen Sangyu.
Bang, bang, bang suddenly, a loud knock on the door sounded.
Wen Qingchuan and Shen Sangyu subconsciously raised their heads and looked at the door of the ward.
When Wen Qingchuan looked at one of the women with patches on her face, there was a little surprise in his eyes: “Mom? Why are you here?”
