Chapter 9: You Became Famous with One Battle

In the garden, Lin Wei was tending to the flowers she had grown.

It was autumn, so many petals had fallen, but a few jasmine flowers still gave off a pleasant fragrance.

Xia Ruannuan stepped closer with a sweet smile on her face. “Mom, these jasmine flowers smell so nice!”

Upon hearing the compliment about the fragrance, Lin Wei smiled as well.

Xia Ruannuan stayed in the Huo family’s garden, casually chatting with Lin Wei.

After some time, Xia Ruannuan stood up and said, “Mom, I’m going out for a while.”

Before Lin Wei could ask anything, Xia Ruannuan pointed to her forehead and added, “I’m going to the hospital to get my bandage changed.”

Lin Wei asked, “Do you want me to go with you?”

Xia Ruannuan shook her head. “No, Mom. I can handle it on my own.”

She quickly ran upstairs, put some money in her pocket, and caught a bus to the hospital.

When she arrived at the hospital, Xia Ruannuan initially planned to pay for the bandage change herself.

Although Huo Beiqing had told her to come find him, Xia Ruannuan felt a bit shy about it.

However, her wishful thinking was interrupted when she became famous at the hospital after yesterday’s incident. A nurse saw her and immediately guided her. “Are you here to see Dr. Huo? He doesn’t have surgery this morning. I’ll take you to him.”

The nurse said, lowering her head, and quickly walked ahead.

Xia Ruannuan hesitated for a moment but followed her.

The nurse was thin but walked incredibly fast, and Xia Ruannuan struggled to keep up.

She didn’t even have a chance to say, “I’m not here to see Dr. Huo.”

Eventually, Xia Ruannuan was brought to Huo Beiqing’s office.

*Knock knock* the nurse tapped on the door.

“Come in,” Huo Beiqing’s cold voice came from inside.

The nurse, her face slightly red, entered, saying, “Dr. Huo…”

Huo Beiqing frowned. “Is something wrong?”

The nurse, her face flushed, pointed behind her. At that moment, Xia Ruannuan peeked her head around the door and smiled widely.

Huo Beiqing…

The nurse, still blushing, stammered, “Your… Your wife is here to see you.”

Huo Beiqing nodded, and the nurse left with a quick glance over her shoulder.

Huo Beiqing’s gaze turned to Xia Ruannuan. She pushed the door open fully, smiled, and walked inside, waving at him.

Huo Beiqing narrowed his eyes, thinking that it felt like a mischievous sunflower was walking toward him.

Xia Ruannuan sat down on the chair opposite him and began, “I was going to get a number and change my bandage myself, but when I got to the lobby, they led me here.”

She continued with a compliment, “Your medical staff look so fragile, but they walk so fast! I had to run to barely keep up, and I didn’t even have time to speak.”

Xia Ruannuan added with a puzzled look, “I haven’t really been to this hospital much, but it feels like they recognized me!”

Huo Beiqing stood up and took the medical tools. “You became famous with one battle yesterday.”

Huo Beiqing’s serious tone made Xia Ruannuan blush.

She lowered her head, embarrassed, and smiled awkwardly.

Huo Beiqing placed the tray in front of her, picked up a pair of tweezers, and began removing the bandage from her forehead.

His long fingers touched the tape, and as he was about to rip it off, he paused, and with his other hand, gently held her forehead in place. The movement became slower, and Xia Ruannuan winced slightly.

Huo Beiqing thought the sunflower was being a bit delicate.

Although he thought she was being too fragile, he still worked more carefully, using a cotton ball to clean around the wound. Without realizing it, he blew lightly on the injury.

When he realized what he had done, he quickly closed his mouth and furrowed his brows.

Fortunately, Xia Ruannuan, focused on the pain, didn’t notice his behavior.

The bandage was quickly changed. As Huo Beiqing tidied up, he said, “Tomorrow, just come directly here.”

Xia Ruannuan wanted to say she could just make an appointment and not bother him, but Huo Beiqing added, “If you don’t come to me, and go to someone else, the rumors about our marriage being in trouble and me being forced into marriage will spread even more.”

Xia Ruannuan immediately understood. It wasn’t that he wanted to help her; he just wanted to prevent those rumors from escalating.

She thought about saying that it wasn’t just a rumor, since he was unwilling to marry in the first place, but after recalling the things the original owner had done and Huo Beiqing’s serious face, Xia Ruannuan decided to stay quiet. She nodded obediently. “Okay, I understand.”

“Then… I’ll leave now!” Xia Ruannuan pointed toward the door.

Huo Beiqing grunted without lifting his head.

Xia Ruannuan quickly fled.

The moment she left, Huo Beiqing stopped his movements and sat at his desk, lost in thought. No one knew what he was thinking.

After leaving Huo Beiqing’s office, Xia Ruannuan felt an urgent need to use the restroom, so she hurried to the bathroom.

However, inside, she ran into two people she really didn’t want to see.

Jiang Ruoman and Sun Zhenzhen.

At that moment, Jiang Ruoman was crying, her face a mess of tears.

Sun Zhenzhen stood beside her, trying to comfort her.

After what had happened yesterday, Xia Ruannuan didn’t expect these two to still be friends.

Jiang Ruoman sniffled, wiping her tears with a handkerchief. “Zhenzhen, what should I do?”

Sun Zhenzhen, looking at Jiang Ruoman’s tear-streaked face, had forgotten about the harshness of the previous day. She now felt a pang of sympathy. “Ruoman, don’t be too sad. Even though you can’t be with Dr. Huo, Director Wang isn’t bad either.”
