Chapter 34
Damn it, are you messing with me?
Xu Jianguo didn’t want to stay among the women. “What should I go for? Argue with those female comrades?”
“Even if we don’t go to work, we still get paid.”
“How much do you get in a month?” Some people had no sense of boundaries.
Xu Jianguo lifted his chin, smiling slyly as he looked at the man. “Want to know?”
The man nodded. “Yes.”
“I won’t tell you.” Xu Jianguo wore a smug expression.
The man: “……”
Damn it.
Are you messing with me?!
……
That day.
It was just getting light.
The Xu family door was knocked on.
Xu Laotai (Grandmother Xu) opened the door slightly, and upon seeing her brother-in-law He, immediately opened the door wide and let him in. “What’s so early?”
He wiped the sweat from his forehead, breathing heavily as he said, “That bastard Wang Bo’s result is out. He’s been detained for half a month. Tao Hua has already divorced him, and she’s living at her mother’s house now.”
Xu Laotai saw that He didn’t move and frowned. “Come in, what are you standing there for?”
He shook his head. “I’m not going in. I just wanted to tell you the result so you won’t worry.”
After saying this, He didn’t listen to Xu Laotai’s invitation and left.
Xu Laotai looked at his back, then remembered there were apples in the house. She went inside and picked out three nice ones, running after He. “Take them back to your wife to try.”
He froze. These were apples, not only expensive but also in short supply. People like them, ordinary folks, couldn’t afford them. “Mother-in-law, these are too… too precious. You don’t have to…”
Xu Laotai couldn’t be bothered to argue with him and directly shoved the apples into his pocket. “Take them, they didn’t cost any money. They were given by Jiajia’s friend.”
He was stunned. This friend was really generous. “Thank you, thank you, Mother-in-law.”
……
Back home.
He gave the apples to his mother-in-law, He Laolao. “These are from Mother-in-law Xu for you.”
He Laolao saw the three big apples and almost lost her balance. “These are so expensive, and hard to get. Your in-laws are really generous!”
He Dajiu (her brother-in-law) replied, “They’re from Jiajia’s friend.”
He Dajiu’s wife, Da Jiuma, came in from outside. Upon seeing the apples on the table, her eyes flashed slightly, and she shamelessly said, “Three apples, just enough for us to share.”
He Laolao shot her a dark look. “Share? How?”
Da Jiuma, unaware of He Laolao’s mood, continued, “The three brothers can each have one, and that’s it.”
He Dajiu looked at her expressionlessly. “These are for Mother-in-law, don’t just think about eating all the time.”
He Laolao picked up a broom and swung it at Da Jiuma, but she did so carefully, not hitting her. “Shameless wench, always thinking about food. Is the house missing food, or missing you to eat it?”
Da Jiuma, afraid of being hit, jumped around in panic. “Mother, stop, please stop!”
He Laolao chased her out of the house. Only when she was calm again did she look at He Dajiu, who was standing still, and sighed, “I don’t even know how to evaluate your wife.”
He Dajiu was also frustrated with his wife. She couldn’t do anything right—lazy and gluttonous, always complaining of pains when working. But when food was involved, she could get up even if she were dead.
After being chased out, Da Jiuma returned and crouched by the door to eavesdrop. He Taohua came back from fetching water and saw her lurking at the door. She called out, “Sister-in-law, what are you doing?”
Da Jiuma was startled by the sudden voice. She turned around and glared at He Taohua. “What the hell, shouting so loudly? Want to scare me to death? Do you want your brother to marry another woman?”
He Taohua, you’ve been living with your mother’s family. I haven’t said a word, but you actually want me dead. You’re so vicious. No wonder Wang Bo hit you. If it were me, I’d hit you too!
