Chapter 115: Fainting
As expected, Shen Sangyu and He Huai received full marks.
Qin Duanshan, recognizing the future potential of submarines, asked directly when Shen Sangyu came to his office, “What is the future development prospect of your submarine?”
Shen Sangyu didn’t expect such a direct question from Qin Duanshan.
“If the research is successful, no country can catch up in the next ten years. As for the development prospects…” Shen Sangyu paused.
In her research, this submarine was indeed sustainable, given her knowledge from her past life.
“The development prospects are very impressive. With the advancement of technology, submarine salvage techniques and deployment methods will become more mature, and the endurance will be longer.
In the future, it will be very convenient for both civilian and military use.”
Shen Sangyu continued, “But what I said must be based on the development of other technologies.”
Qin Duanshan seemed to understand, and his eyes brightened.
“I will take your submarine back for experiments. If it can truly dive to the depth you mentioned, I will make an exception and allow you to conduct the submarine experiment.”
Shen Sangyu’s eyes lit up: “Thank you, Teacher Qin!”
Qin Duanshan chuckled: “Don’t celebrate just yet; the place where you experimented today is just an artificial lake, and the pressure isn’t sufficient. If you take it back and the experiment fails, it will still be a failure.”
He added, somewhat helplessly, “You know the current situation of our country. Resources are scarce, and even the funding for the research institute is tight.”
Shen Sangyu hadn’t understood this before, but now she could see it clearly: “I understand.”
It’s only been a few decades since the founding of the country, and the current situation is already commendable.
After all, she hailed from the future. Shen Sangyu asserted confidently: “Teacher, China will definitely rise in the future.”
“I believe there will be such a day,” Qin Duanshan replied.
The two continued their conversation for a while. Once they had covered all the necessary points, Shen Sangyu lingered in the office.
Qin Duanshan raised an eyebrow: “Aren’t you leaving?”
Shen Sangyu hesitated, then said, “Well, I want to ask, when my submarine experiment is successful, about the funding I provided…”
Qin Duanshan paused for a moment, then considered the situation. He realized that the submarine Shen Sangyu created was worth a considerable amount of money.
She wouldn’t be able to keep funding her experiments indefinitely. He thought for a moment and said, “I will inform the school when the time comes.
Your submarine has been recognized by the higher-ups, and you will definitely receive funding.”
Shen Sangyu shook her head, “Teacher Qin, I don’t want the money!”
“Huh?” Qin Duanshan was surprised. “Why don’t you want the money?”
Who doesn’t love money?
Shen Sangyu’s deep-sea powered submarine was impressive enough. If the subsequent experiments went well, Shen Sangyu would undoubtedly shine.
If she decided to sell it, she would never have to worry about food and clothing again.
“Teacher, I was able to create these experiments by standing on the shoulders of giants.
As long as I conduct an experiment, I will give it to the country for free,” Shen Sangyu paused, looking a bit embarrassed. “As long as I don’t lose money.”
Qin Duanshan was at a loss for words.
“Alright, off you go.”
Shen Sangyu sensed that the conversation had concluded and smiled brightly: “Okay!”
As she walked to the door, she paused again and said, “Teacher Qin, I have one more thing to discuss with you.”
“Go ahead,” Qin Duanshan replied.
“I mentioned before that my partner, He Huai, is equally talented in research. If possible, I would like him to be my partner.”
Qin Duanshan regarded Shen Sangyu thoughtfully. In the laboratory, there was only one experimental group, and it was rare to find suitable partners.
Shen Sangyu’s request indicated a solid understanding between her and He Huai.
But hadn’t they just met?
Sensing Qin Duanshan’s thoughts, Shen Sangyu explained, “We truly complement each other in the lab.
You’ve seen He Huai’s results. Most of the external parts and models of the deep-sea submarine were constructed by him. I think he’s outstanding. He Huai is destined to be a scientist.”
Initially, she had concerns about whether He Huai would adapt, but the experiments over the past two weeks had convinced Shen Sangyu that He Huai belonged in the scientific field.
Qin Duanshan finally agreed.
As soon as Shen Sangyu exited the office, she felt hungry. She touched her stomach and decided to grab some dry rice noodles.
Having not been home for three weeks, she planned to return after class that afternoon.
This thought lifted her spirits, and she didn’t realize she was walking a bit lighter.
After dinner, Shen Sangyu returned to her dormitory and took a short nap.
The campus was so large that during afternoons, they often didn’t have enough time to rest.
To catch up on the progress made in the past two weeks, they sometimes stayed up all night for experiments and studies, averaging only two to three hours of sleep each day.
Shen Sangyu knew her body was in poor condition; sometimes, she even heard faint hallucinations in the dead of night.
So, she quickly finished her meal and decided to catch up on some sleep.
Without saying a word, she returned to her dormitory, kicked off her shoes, covered herself with a quilt, and fell asleep.
However, she hadn’t rested long before Zhou Miao called her up for class.
Shen Sangyu raised her hand and glanced at her watch. She had only slept for twenty minutes.
But it felt much better than in the morning.
Zhou Miao didn’t notice at first, but was startled when she saw Shen Sangyu sitting up with a dazed look: “Sangyu, are you okay?”
Shen Sangyu had just woken up, and her brain was still a bit sluggish as she looked blankly at Zhou Miao.
Zhou Miao quickly stuffed a candy from her pocket into Shen Sangyu’s mouth, panicking: “Sangyu, did you have lunch today?”
Shen Sangyu’s head felt like a rusty alarm clock. Hearing Zhou Miao, she hummed, “I ate dry mixed rice noodles.”
Zhou Miao was at a loss for words. She knew Shen Sangyu had a habit of eating whatever she liked, and it was useless to say anything further.
“You don’t look good; are you hypoglycemic?” Zhou Miao asked with concern.
Shen Sangyu touched her head, and her mind began to clear up. She guessed, “I feel a bit off.
It might be because I’ve been staying up late and not resting well. I’ll be fine after a couple of days of rest this weekend.”
Worried, Zhou Miao suggested, “Why don’t you take half a day off? You really don’t look well right now.”
Shen Sangyu rubbed her face, her cheeks a bit flushed: “Now?”
Zhou Miao was speechless.
Finally, she felt relieved when she saw Shen Sangyu getting up and walking around, seemingly okay.
They lingered in the dormitory for a bit before heading to class.
The weather was getting colder, with chilly winds blowing from time to time, and Shen Sangyu felt her head spinning.
But thinking of her afternoon class, Shen Sangyu quickened her pace and made it to the classroom.
She arrived a little late, but fortunately, He Huai had saved a seat for her.
As soon as he saw Shen Sangyu’s face, he immediately asked, “Sangyu, are you okay?”
Shen Sangyu sat down on the bench and felt a bit of relief. She hurriedly shook her head, saying, “What’s wrong? I just didn’t rest well before.”
After saying this, she yawned, and stars danced in front of her eyes.
It seemed… a little more serious than she thought.
Shen Sangyu blinked, and after repeating this motion for a while, she felt a bit better.
Just then, the professor entered the classroom, and Shen Sangyu struggled to open her book.
The cold wind from outside seeped into the classroom, and Shen Sangyu wrapped her clothes tightly around herself as she listened to the lecture. Her mind grew hazier, and her eyelids felt heavier.
Shen Sangyu tried to keep her head up, but He Huai, who had been observing her condition, rushed to ask, “Are you really okay?”
Shen Sangyu wanted to admit that she was in trouble, but for some reason, she found herself unable to speak.
He Huai sensed something was off and shouted again.
“He Huai, Shen Sangyu, what are you two discussing down there?”
The professor had been watching them closely and could no longer ignore their distraction.
Both He Huai and Shen Sangyu jumped at the professor’s voice. Shen Sangyu stood up instinctively, about to respond, when suddenly a white patch filled her vision. Then she heard a flurry of panicked voices and the creaking of chairs.
All she could think was shame!
But before she had time to process that thought, her world went dark.
—
In the hospital, Shen Sangyu floated in a half-dream state, hearing a strange voice: “Is the patient very frugal at school? The results show that she is a little malnourished.”
Malnourished?
Could they be talking about her?
That couldn’t be right!
She never deprived herself. She ate what she wanted. Besides, Wen Qingchuan made money; she couldn’t possibly spend it all. How could she be malnourished?
It must be a mistake!
At that moment, she sensed a commotion in the room, as if someone had approached her.
Shen Sangyu slowly opened her eyes and was surprised to see Wen Qingchuan, who she hadn’t seen in almost a month.
“Wen Qingchuan?” she exclaimed, sitting up quickly from the bed. “What are you doing here?”
Wen Qingchuan frowned at her sudden movement and whispered, “You’re still on an IV drip; don’t let the blood return.”
Looking around, Shen Sangyu realized she was indeed in a hospital.
She opened her mouth to ask, “What happened to me?”
Wen Qingchuan took a deep breath and replied, “You fainted at school.”
“Me?” Shen Sangyu couldn’t believe it. “I fainted? How is that even possible?!!”
Although this body was a bit fragile, she was still under twenty years old. It didn’t seem plausible that she would faint after living day and night for half a month!
“What else can I say?” Wen Qingchuan said, seeing her shocked expression. He couldn’t help but knock her lightly on the head.
Shen Sangyu felt wronged and pouted at Wen Qingchuan.
He looked at her, a mix of helplessness and seriousness in his tone: “You suddenly fainted at school, and He Huai rushed you directly to the hospital. After examination, they found you were malnourished.”
Shen Sangyu: “…”
Wen Qingchuan looked down at Shen Sangyu, who was bewildered in the bed, and asked earnestly, “Sangyu, have you really been eating just dry mixed rice noodles for two months?”
