“You and Wang Xiaoke are supposed to be sisters, why are you telling me these things?” Xiao Ling looked at Feng Ning, unable to understand her motives.
Feng Ning casually played with her freshly dyed fiery red nails and said indifferently, “Wang Xiaoke is my stepfather’s child. Over the years, I’ve been living under the roof of the Wang family, always needing to watch her face and act accordingly. If I tell you that I’ve had enough of it, would you believe me?”
Xiao Ling knew that this woman wanted to use her to get rid of Wang Xiaoke, but right now, the key was to seize the opportunity she had in hand. She wouldn’t let herself be used as a pawn without gaining anything.
“Thank you for sharing, but unfortunately, I can’t help you. All I can say is, sorry.” Xiao Ling smiled and subtly declined.
“It’s fine. I just happened to run into this. I’ll just take it as gossip,” Feng Ning said with a carefree expression, as though she was simply looking for someone to chat with on a whim.
Xiao Ling’s nails dug into her flesh, but she didn’t notice. The thought that the man she liked had fallen for such an insignificant woman sparked an uncontrollable fire of jealousy in her heart.
Wang Xiaoke, the woman who made a fool of herself in front of him, what right did she have to share a meal with the perfect man in Xiao Ling’s eyes? Why was she allowed to?
“Miss Xiao, this is the costume that’s already been cleaned,” Wang Xiaoke said as she came over with a large pile of clothes, walking toward the rack. “I’ve placed it all here for you.”
Xiao Ling snapped back to her senses and responded, but as she watched Wang Xiaoke moving about in front of her, she couldn’t stand the sight of her. “Bring that one over here. I’ll need it later.” She pointed to one of the outfits.
“Alright, here you go.” Wang Xiaoke handed the clothes over, but as soon as Xiao Ling reached out to grab them, her movements were so swift that Wang Xiaoke didn’t expect it. Still holding onto the clothes, the force was not yet released, and when Xiao Ling yanked it, the clothes ripped with a ‘slit’ sound. Xiao Ling lost her balance and fell to the ground.
“What’s wrong with you? How can you not even handle a piece of clothing properly?” Xiao Ling angrily scolded.
“I…” Wang Xiaoke was at a loss for words. This happened in front of a large crowd, and even though the mistake wasn’t entirely hers, Xiao Ling had indeed fallen, and the general public’s psychology tends to sympathize with the weaker party. Given that, no one would likely blame her too much, especially when comparing a potential future star to an unknown assistant. Anyone would make the wisest choice.
“What happened?” Director Zheng saw that it was Wang Xiaoke again, and his frustration grew.
This time, Xiao Ling didn’t rush to explain. Instead, she revealed her reddened and bruised knee, saying, “It’s nothing, I just tripped. I’ll be fine after a short rest.”
Director Zheng frowned and asked, “How did you fall like this? What exactly happened?” His gaze turned toward Wang Xiaoke.
“It wasn’t intentional,” Wang Xiaoke softly said, seeing that Xiao Ling wasn’t making things difficult for her.
“Come here.” Director Zheng’s tone was harsh. “Wang Xiaoke, what’s going on with you? You’ve caused problems from the moment you came here. This isn’t an assistant I hired, it’s a disaster!”
