“Beloved in the Palm” Chapter 83

Chapter 83: Personally Inviting Her Back to the Mansion

When Aunt Xue arrived at the Xue family, things were still being carried in box after box.

She held her breath and walked inside.

The servants saw her and quickly greeted her as “Aunt.”

“Where’s Xue Qingyin?” she asked.

The servants, sensing her displeasure, exchanged glances and smiled, “It’s so crowded, it might be disrespectful to Aunt. Please wait in the flower hall for a while.”

Aunt Xue was amused, “She’s my junior, how dare she make me wait?”

The Xue family servants were skilled at reading the situation. Considering the gifts that King Xuan had sent over, they were confident that the eldest daughter was being treated well. So, they just smiled and said, “We were just worried that you might be tired, Aunt.”

Their tone was respectful, but it only made Aunt Xue angrier.

“Xu Zhi is indeed useless. She’s turned the servants into what? Don’t think I don’t know you’re all two-faced…” Aunt Xue raised her chin.

“Why are you dragging others into this?” Xue Chengdong’s voice echoed behind her.

The servants immediately bowed, “Master.”

Aunt Xue turned around and said, “You’re too lenient towards them, mother and daughter. That’s why they dare to leave the mansion and go back to their maiden home. Don’t you care about your own reputation?”

Xue Chengdong didn’t answer, instead, he asked, “Are you here to flaunt your status as the Marquess’ wife?”

The mention of it made Aunt Xue furious.

“The Xu family is relying on your daughter’s influence. I went to their house to discipline Qingyin, but they dared to take my carriage and forcibly drove me away. I even bumped my head.”

“Took your carriage?”

“Yes. They were very aggressive.”

Xue Chengdong understood immediately. He said, “Those were King Xuan’s soldiers. Your elder sister should be grateful that the Xuanjia Army couldn’t enter the city. Otherwise, your head would have been truly cracked that day.”

Aunt Xue was stunned by his words, “Soldiers from King Xuan’s mansion? Was the Duke there that day?” She realized, “But wouldn’t that be a private meeting?”

“Whether the Duke was there or not is irrelevant. What matters is that you should stop pursuing this matter if you’re smart.” Xue Chengdong said coldly.

Aunt Xue’s face changed slightly, but she didn’t refute Xue Chengdong.

Xu Zhi, Xue Qingyin’s mother, had little interaction with them. Xue Qingyin rarely visited the Xue family’s main branch. She recalled Xue Qingyin’s past appearance and couldn’t imagine how she had such good fortune to be connected to King Xuan.

Aunt Xue sighed, “After all, we’re family. Why would I bother with a junior? When she enters the Duke’s mansion, she’ll probably need me, her aunt, to guide her.”

Xue Chengdong remained silent.

He thought, with Xue Qingyin’s current temperament, she probably wouldn’t need it.

After a while, the Xue family steward suddenly ran over, his face panicked, “Master, the eldest daughter says she wants to leave.”

Aunt Xue said impatiently, “Leave where? Go to the Xu family?” She looked at Xue Chengdong, “You, as her father, should show some authority…”

The steward anxiously interrupted, “The eldest daughter wants to take the dowry with her.” He had thought that she didn’t want to take anything. But it turned out she was waiting for the things from King Xuan’s mansion to be delivered, then she would take them all together!

The steward was anxious, “If we let the eldest daughter leave, wouldn’t the Xue family be the laughingstock?”

Aunt Xue scoffed, “Easy to say? How can she move all these things to the Xu family?”

Xue Chengdong, as if he had anticipated this, said calmly, “King Xuan’s soldiers.”

Aunt Xue choked on her breath. King Xuan’s soldiers again?

She said incredulously, “She hasn’t even entered the mansion, yet she’s acting like this. Isn’t she afraid of being impeached by the officials?”

No one answered her shock.

Xue Chengdong said, “Bring the eldest daughter here.”

The steward nodded and hurried away.

Xue Qingyin held two lists in her hand and walked gracefully to Xue Chengdong, calling out, “Father.”

Aunt Xue was stunned for a moment, feeling that Xue Qingyin in front of her was different from the little girl she remembered.

Perhaps she had grown up and become more beautiful.

“You want to move everything to the Xu family?” Xue Chengdong asked.

Xue Qingyin nodded, showing a troubled expression, “I don’t want to cause such trouble, but the servants in this mansion, many of them disrespect their masters and have dirty hands. Leaving my things here makes me uneasy.”

The steward’s face turned pale.

Xue Chengdong asked, “Then what do you want to do?”

“I’m not clever enough to have any ideas. Please, Father, make the decision.” Xue Qingyin was exceptionally obedient today.

Xue Chengdong looked at her and said, “I’ll personally go and fetch your mother back. Let her deal with the servants who dare to disrespect their masters. How does that sound?”

Aunt Xue couldn’t listen anymore, “You’re the father, she’s the daughter. How can you indulge her like this?”

Xu Zhi had made a scene and lost face for her younger brother! And now he had to personally coax her back?

Xue Chengdong glanced at Aunt Xue, his tone cold and harsh, “Elder sister, this is a family matter.”

Aunt Xue laughed angrily, “Family matter? Aren’t we all family?”

Xue Chengdong spoke, his words cold and cruel, “Elder sister has already married out. You’re part of the Marquis of Dongxing’s family.”

Aunt Xue’s eyes widened. She never expected to hear these words from Xue Chengdong.

Xue Qingyin smiled sweetly, “Father is always more thoughtful than me. Oh, there’s one more thing. Mother has only been back to her maiden home for a few days, she might not want to come back so soon.”

Xue Chengdong looked at her seriously and chuckled, “Alright. I understand.”

“You’re bowing to her like this, can she handle it? If Father knew, he would come personally to teach this granddaughter a lesson!” Aunt Xue trembled with anger.

“What are you talking about, Aunt? You’re trying to scare me with Grandfather?” Xue Qingyin sighed.

“Are you scared now?”

Xue Qingyin nodded, saying earnestly, “I am a little scared. My health has always been poor, I might get scared sick…”

Aunt Xue had a bad feeling.

She heard Xue Qingyin’s next words, her tone full of melancholy, “If I miss the auspicious day, it will be a sin.”

“You’re clearly faking it!” Aunt Xue angrily looked at Xue Chengdong, “Can’t you see?”

Xue Chengdong calmly stated a fact, “The Xue family’s drama back then was known throughout the capital. If she says she’s weak and can’t handle the shock, no one will doubt her.”

Aunt Xue was so angry she pressed her chest, but she couldn’t refute. She could only sneer, “Xu Zhi really gave birth to a good daughter.”

Xue Qingyin smiled at her, “Thank you, Aunt, for the compliment.”

Aunt Xue was choked with anger and couldn’t speak anymore.

Xue Chengdong said, “Let’s go. I’ll welcome your mother back to the mansion today.”

Xue Qingyin agreed and walked out of the Xue family with Xue Chengdong, looking like a loving father and daughter.

“Shall I see Aunt out?” A servant nearby smiled.

Aunt Xue was furious, feeling that the place where she had fallen that day hurt even more. She didn’t look at anyone in Xue Chengdong’s mansion and walked out quickly.

Mrs. Xue woke up from a nap and heard that her husband had come.

She was completely confused and asked, “What is he doing here?”

Mrs. Xue frowned and walked out of the Xu family’s gate.

She stopped on the steps.

She saw Xue Chengdong slowly walk up to her and bow, “Has A-Zhi calmed down? Please come back to the mansion with me.”

Mrs. Xue was stunned at first, then she looked up at the sky, “It’s broad daylight, have I encountered a ghost?”
