“You have the guts to do it, but not to admit it?” Wang Xiaoke stood firm, refusing to bow to the evil forces in front of her.
“What do you mean, I did it but can’t admit it? I didn’t plan on doing anything at all!”
Chen Ze looked defeated, his finger trembling as he pointed at Wang Xiaoke. “Listen carefully, what I meant was, change the bedsheet I used last night.”
Wang Xiaoke froze for a moment. “Is that it?”
“What else did you expect?” Chen Ze looked at her as if she were an idiot.
“No,” Wang Xiaoke gave a wry smile, suddenly realizing the dark future she was facing.
Chen Ze’s hawk-like eyes bore into her. “Do you have anything to say about your actions just now?”
“Well…” Wang Xiaoke hesitated, her gaze shifting uneasily.
“Well what?” Chen Ze gritted his teeth.
“It was all a misunderstanding, a misunderstanding.” Wang Xiaoke laughed awkwardly. “Mr. Chen, you’re generous and shouldn’t hold this little thing against me, right?”
“A little thing? I, the president of a company, was slapped by you for no reason, and you call that a little thing?” Chen Ze asked sarcastically.
“Well, what do you want me to do?” Wang Xiaoke asked, unable to avoid it, she braced herself and said, “How about I let you slap me back, and we’ll call it even?”
It turned out that Chen Ze, despite being crude, still couldn’t bring himself to hit a woman.
“Half an hour later, I don’t want to see a speck of dust in my sight. If you can’t do it or I find you slacking, well…” He smirked maliciously, “I’ll deduct money.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll try my best to clean up.”
Wang Xiaoke listened to his demands and found them oddly reasonable.
Dingling…
The loud phone rang. Wang Xiaoke frowned but still picked up.
“Xiao Ke, where are you?” came Feng Jin’s voice.
“Do you need something? If not, I’ll hang up. I’m busy,” Wang Xiaoke responded coolly. She had already experienced Feng Jin’s two-faced ways.
“Don’t hang up yet.” Feng Jin’s voice was urgent.
“Spit it out. I’m in a hurry,” Wang Xiaoke urged impatiently.
Feng Jin hesitated before saying, “Your dad… something happened to him.”
Wang Xiaoke’s heart skipped a beat. “What happened? Tell me clearly.”
On the other side of the phone, Wang Chengyao coughed heavily, signaling Feng Jin to hand the phone over to him.
“Xiaoke, how have you been doing out there? It’s been two days, and you haven’t even called home. Cough, cough, cough…” After a bout of violent coughing, Wang Chengyao’s breathing became noticeably weaker.
Wang Xiaoke felt her heart twist painfully, hearing her father’s labored breathing. “Dad, what happened? Why are you like this?”
“Dad… no, it’s nothing, just missing you. I don’t know if you’re eating well, if you have a place to stay, if someone’s bullying you…” Another violent coughing fit followed.
Wang Xiaoke was already on edge. She rushed out of the hospital, shouting into the phone, “Dad, stop talking. I’m coming home right now. You need to see a doctor.”
