Chapter 39
Song Qianqian and Sun Ming both looked displeased.
Su Qianqian was thinking of resolving the matter quickly so she could take the children home to rest. “Here’s the deal: your daughter will apologize to my children, pay for the medical expenses, and compensation for emotional distress.”
“Alright, alright,” Sun Ming agreed. “What’s her name again? Is it Daya?”
“My name is Cheng Qingyan!” Daya proudly announced her full name.
Sun Ming and Song Qianqian were taken aback, probably not expecting such a well-chosen name. They had assumed someone from the countryside, like them, would give a name like Fang or Mei.
“Cheng Qingyan, I’m sorry. We were wrong,” Sun Ming apologized.
Then, he took money out of his pocket. “This is for your compensation. The extra is for some nutritional supplements.” He handed over a fifty.
Su Qianqian took the money, and seeing that the Sun family was about to leave, she immediately spoke up.
“Director Sun, I expect your daughter to apologize to my daughter.”
“Su Qianqian, when is this going to end? She’s apologized, the money’s been given, and you’re still pushing it!” Song Qianqian was furious. Her daughter had been scared, and she hadn’t said anything about it, but her precious daughter had never been subjected to such humiliation.
“With a mother like you, no wonder your daughter behaves so arrogantly.” Like mother, like daughter. Song Qianqian probably hadn’t taught her daughter properly.
Song Qianqian was so angry she was stomping her feet.
Of course, Sun Ming had to defend his wife and daughter, so he said to Cheng Yue, “Captain Cheng, we’ve acknowledged our mistake, we’ve apologized, and we’ve compensated, but your wife has insulted my wife and daughter several times. What’s the meaning of that?”
“Insulted? Isn’t it the truth? I don’t think my wife said anything wrong,” Cheng Yue said firmly. He wasn’t going to let anyone talk bad about his wife or kids. What kind of man would he be if he couldn’t protect his own family?
Even though he might divorce Su Qianqian in the future, they were still married for now, and he had to protect her.
“And our request is simple: for your daughter to apologize to my daughter. Is that really so hard? She pushed my child and made her get seven stitches. How would you feel if your daughter had to get seven stitches?”
Sun Tingting refused to apologize. She started crying again, hiding behind Song Qianqian.
“No apology? Fine,” Su Qianqian said.
Before Sun Ming could respond, she continued, “Have your daughter push mine back. If your daughter only gets five stitches, we’ll call it even.”
“Are you crazy? That’s impossible!” Song Qianqian shielded Sun Tingting.
“Then apologize!” Su Qianqian’s tone suddenly turned cold, her gaze chilling and making Song Qianqian feel scared.
Sun Tingting was also frightened and suddenly screamed, her voice high-pitched and sharp.
“I won’t apologize! I don’t want to apologize! I don’t want to go to school with country bumpkins! They’re country bumpkins, dirty and smelly! I hate them!”
Sun Ming’s face changed, and he rushed to cover his daughter’s mouth, but it was too late—everyone had already heard.
“How would a child know those words? It seems like the adults have been teaching her. Since that’s the case, no need for an apology. You’re too noble to interact with us properly.”
With that, Su Qianqian picked up her child and walked away. Cheng Yue gave Sun Ming a deep look, then flashed a meaningful smile. “If I remember correctly, Director Sun, you’re also from the countryside, aren’t you?”
With that, the five of them left, and the conflict between the two families was sealed.
This incident quickly spread throughout the compound, as it had been quite a scene. The parents of the other children came over to apologize, expressing sincere attitudes and bringing a lot of treats. Su Qianqian decided not to hold it against them.
Lin Xuemei and Zhang Xiaofang also came over. “Oh no, such a beautiful little girl is going to have a scar!”
“Song Qianqian is so domineering herself, and she raised a domineering daughter. I heard that Sun Tingting has bullied other kids before, but it wasn’t this serious, so everyone turned a blind eye. After all, it’s just kids messing around, no need to make a big deal of it.”
“But this time, it even drew blood. Luckily, it didn’t hit her eyes!” Lin Xuemei looked at Daya with sympathy. It was a close call; if the injury had been to her eyes, the child’s life could have been ruined.
Su Qianqian also felt a sense of fear after thinking about it. She poured a glass of water, added five drops of spiritual water, and gave it to Daya to drink.
“Mom, it’s sweet and tastes good,” Daya smiled and said. Her smile made people’s hearts ache even more.
“You’re such a good girl, sweetheart.”
“Daya is so considerate.” Those who have been mothers know that when children go through something like this, they would usually cry and complain because of the pain, but Daya didn’t cry or make a fuss. Instead, she comforted her mother—truly a little sweetheart.
Su Qianqian asked Daya to bring some water to Erbao, who had also been injured. Then, she continued chatting with Lin Xuemei and Zhang Xiaofang.
“It’s good that things are completely broken off now, so we don’t have to keep up appearances in the future,” Lin Xuemei said. “There are too many people who can’t stand them, but everyone has been tolerating it for the sake of keeping the peace.”
Just then, Cheng Yuan arrived. He was furious when he heard about the incident and went to speak with Cheng Yue.
“This is too much! Do they really think they’re so great? Bro, hurry up and work hard, climb up, and let’s see who’s better.”
Cheng Yue was already angry, and hearing his words made him both amused and exasperated. “Why don’t you try climbing up, and then protect me?”
“No, no, I can’t,” Cheng Yuan shook his head. “My job is to encourage my brothers to help me fly.”
Encouraging others is definitely easier than working hard yourself.
Cheng Yue didn’t respond to him.
Lin Xuemei and Zhang Xiaofang stood up to leave. Su Qianqian went to see them off, and Wu Xuemei from the door handed her a bag of brown sugar. “Let the kids drink some sweet water to recover. I heard she lost quite a bit of blood.”
“It’s a pity for a girl to have a scar, it’ll make it harder to find a good husband in the future.”
“Thank you,” Su Qianqian took the brown sugar. She wasn’t really concerned about the scar; with the spiritual water, the scar would definitely fade away over time. The scar on her own forehead was already barely noticeable.
Daya was still young, so the scar would fade more easily.
“Sister Qianqian, don’t mind me speaking out of turn, but I still have to remind you. You see, when Captain Cheng is around, whatever happens, you have someone backing you up, and you’re not afraid of anyone bullying you. But if you get divorced, you’ll lose everything. It’s hard to find someone with such good conditions for a second marriage.”
At that moment, Cheng Yuan came out to ask Su Qianqian something and overheard this remark. He was shocked but didn’t speak immediately and instead turned back to find Cheng Yue.
“Captain, are you divorcing your wife? Or is your wife divorcing you?”
“We have no feelings left for each other. Divorce is good for both of us.”
“What’s good about that? If you divorce, you won’t get to eat such delicious meals anymore!” Cheng Yuan couldn’t help but exclaim. “And now your wife looks so beautiful. After the divorce, she’ll definitely be in high demand. You’ll regret it when it’s too late.”
Cheng Yue frowned, displeased. “I won’t regret it.”
“Really?”
Cheng Yue pursed his lips, not answering, his face showing clear impatience.
“Ah…” Cheng Yuan sighed. “It’s a pity we’re brothers. There’s this saying: a brother can’t wrong his brother’s wife. Otherwise…”
