Godfather of Culinary | Chapter 21 – Mad Woman

At six in the evening, students and parents began getting off the school bus one after another, each heading their own way.

Qin Feng carried the already-sleeping Nan Nan to Xu Fei’s car. The little girl had played to her heart’s content that afternoon, running around and laughing, but now she was completely worn out.

Once they got in the car, Xu Fei drove the two of them home.

When they arrived at the villa, Qin Feng carefully carried Nan Nan out of the car and said to Xu Fei, “Are you heading back tonight?”

“No, I’ll stay and spend time with my daughter.”

After some thought, Xu Fei decided it was better to stay and keep her daughter company.

Once Nan Nan was tucked into bed, Qin Feng turned to Xu Fei and said, “You sleep with Nan Nan tonight. I’ll take another room.”

Xu Fei nodded in agreement. She still needed time to observe Qin Feng more closely before deciding whether to give him another chance.

After a quick shower, Qin Feng lay on his bed and idly scrolled through his phone. It was still early, so he could relax a bit.

Meanwhile, in another house, Qiao Lu was bustling about in the kitchen. She had decided to personally make cola chicken wings. She hadn’t had the chance to try it at the restaurant, and at home, no one would stop her.

Xiao Wen leaned against the doorframe, watching her rush back and forth. “Hey, Lulu, are you sure you know how to make this?”

“Of course I do! I’m Qing Feng’s disciple—don’t underestimate me!”

Qiao Lu’s face lit up with pride. Qin Feng had explained the process of making cola chicken wings to her in detail, and she had memorized every step.

But as soon as the oil heated up and she put the chicken wings in, the pan sizzled loudly, and oil splattered everywhere. Startled, she jumped back, dropping the spatula on the floor.

Seeing this, Xiao Wen burst out laughing. “If your Shifu saw this, he’d definitely regret taking you on as his disciple.”

“This is my first time! It’s normal to have some mishaps!” Qiao Lu blushed and tried to defend herself.

“You’d better take the wings out soon—they’re about to burn.”

With that, Xiao Wen turned and went back to her room, convinced that she wouldn’t get to eat those chicken wings.

“Oh no, my chicken wings!”

Qiao Lu quickly fished the wings out of the pan. They were charred, and she let out a long sigh. What she thought was a simple dish had turned out to be much more complicated than expected.

Xu Fei lay in bed with Nan Nan, fanning her gently.

“Mom, where’s Dad? I want both of you to stay with me.”

At that moment, Nan Nan woke up, rubbing her sleepy eyes.

“I’ll go get him. You stay here and sleep, okay?”

Xu Fei got up and walked out.

Qin Feng was engrossed in watching TV when he suddenly heard a knock at the door. He opened it to find Xu Fei standing there.

“What’s up? Why aren’t you asleep yet?”

“Nan Nan is asking for you,” Xu Fei replied before turning back to the bedroom.

“My sweet girl, why aren’t you asleep yet?”

Qin Feng climbed into bed and began coaxing his daughter.

Nan Nan nestled into his arms and said sweetly, “Dad, I want you and Mom to stay with me.”

Hearing this, Qin Feng glanced at Xu Fei, silently asking for her opinion.

Xu Fei looked at Nan Nan’s expectant little face and lay down beside her, agreeing to stay.

“Having Mom and Dad here is the best.”

Nan Nan held onto both Qin Feng and Xu Fei’s hands, placing them together, then smiled happily and fell asleep.

Feeling Xu Fei’s soft, smooth hand, Qin Feng couldn’t help but feel a little thrilled. This was the first time he had held her hand—it was an indescribable sensation.

Xu Fei, on the other hand, felt a mix of emotions. This was the first time they had shared a bed since their separation, and it caught her off guard. Things were progressing faster than she had anticipated.

That night, both of them lay awake for a long time before finally falling asleep.

The next morning, Qin Feng woke up to find Xu Fei and Nan Nan still sound asleep. Not wanting to disturb them, he got up quietly, prepared breakfast for them, and headed to the restaurant.

When he arrived, he found Qiao Lu looking utterly drained, clearly having had a rough night.

“What’s wrong? Did things get too wild with your boyfriend last night?” Qin Feng teased.

“Shifu, I don’t even have a boyfriend! I was trying to make cola chicken wings last night, and I nearly set the house on fire.”

Qiao Lu laughed at herself.

“Good thing you weren’t cooking at the restaurant, or I’d have to shut the place down,” Qin Feng joked.

He then took out a small blackboard, wrote down the recipe for twice-cooked pork, and placed it at the entrance of the alley.

As soon as the board was out, people crowded around it, studying the recipe.

“So, the pork has to be cooked first? No wonder it never turned out right when I just fried it!”

“How did I not think of that? I wasted an entire pig trying to figure it out.”

“Same here! Our restaurant’s chef was about to lose his mind. Who knew it was so simple?”

“Yeah, it’s ridiculously simple—almost unbelievable.”

Zhao Yonghe, a nearby restaurant owner, quickly went back to his kitchen and tried making twice-cooked pork himself. The dish turned out exactly like the one he had tasted at Qin Feng’s restaurant.

He immediately added it to his menu as a signature dish.

Soon, twice-cooked pork became a hit across Jianghai City, appearing on menus at small eateries and food stalls everywhere.

By one in the afternoon, the restaurant had quieted down. Qiao Lu was busy clearing tables, though the place wasn’t as crowded anymore since people could now find twice-cooked pork elsewhere. Still, she kept herself occupied.

Just then, a well-dressed, sunglasses-wearing middle-aged woman walked in and sat down.

“Bring me a few dishes. I was planning to eat at a five-star restaurant, but I got lost, so I guess I’ll settle for this place. Hurry up.”

“Sorry, we close at one, and we’re no longer serving,” Qiao Lu explained politely.

“What kind of restaurant closes this early? And it’s not even one yet—you’re still open.”

The woman, Zhang Min, checked the time on her phone and waved it at Qiao Lu.

Seeing this, Qiao Lu added, “We only have twice-cooked pork left. Do you want it or not?”

“Just one dish? Can’t your chef make anything else?”

Zhang Min looked annoyed. What kind of restaurant only served one dish?

“No, that’s our rule—one dish per week,” Qiao Lu explained, barely holding back her temper. If she weren’t an employee, she might’ve smashed a tray over the woman’s head already.

Zhang Min sneered, “Rules like this are just gimmicks to get attention. If your chef can’t cook, no amount of showboating will help.”

“Watch your mouth! We’ll cook however many dishes we want—it’s none of your business!”

Qiao Lu snapped back, her patience wearing thin.

“‘A Spoonful Moment’? Pfft, what a ridiculous name. Pretentious nonsense!”

Just then, Qin Feng stepped out of the kitchen. “Who’s calling my ‘A Spoonful Moment’ pretentious?”

No one insulted the name of his restaurant—not on his watch.
