“Come on, Secretary Liu, don’t be so polite with me! It’s just a few packs of cigarettes, nothing valuable. We’re such close friends already. I just want you to try them and give me your opinion. Come to the cargo yard later, and I’ll bring them for you directly.”
Anxin’s words were perfectly crafted—courteous without being overly formal, leaving the recipient feeling both respected and comfortable. On the other end of the line, Liu Qiang chuckled knowingly and responded warmly.
“Well, since Miss Anxin insists so much, I will respectfully obey your order.”
Hearing the delight in his voice, Anxin quickly followed up with another gesture of humility.
“Oh, it’s no trouble at all. I’m the one imposing on you, Secretary Liu.”
Liu Qiang on the other end of the phone felt much better after hearing An Xin not only promised him benefits but also acted humble and respectful. He decisively assured her:
“We’re friends—no need for such formality. I’ll immediately arrange for workers to load the cargo and personally come down to check on things.”
Anxin smiled, satisfied.
“That’s wonderful, Secretary Liu. Having you personally oversee things is the best outcome.”
This was exactly what Anxin wanted. By sweetening the deal, she ensured Liu Qiang’s presence at the site. His presence would make future operations smoother. As the secretary to Su Yipeng, Liu Qiang carried authority. With him visiting the cargo yard, the workers would have to show respect and avoid any excuses or delays during the next ten days.
Pleased with her gestures, Liu Qiang continued the conversation, enjoying Anxin’s flattering remarks.
“All right then, see you shortly!”
“Goodbye, see you soon!”
Anxin ended the call, humming a tune as she leisurely walked back to the cargo yard.
Kaizi, Sanmao, and Xiaozhong were still smoking near the truck. When they saw Anxin return, they quickly stubbed out their cigarettes and approached her.
“How did it go? Did they agree to load our cargo right away?”
During their brief wait, the workers had ignored them completely, clearly not receiving any orders from above.
Anxin, calm and confident, waved them off.
“Don’t worry; I’ve sorted it all out. Go back to the trucks and wait—someone will be here to load our cargo soon.”
Having interacted with Liu Qiang before, Anxin was confident he understood the stakes and would promptly fulfill his promise.
However, Kaizi, Sanmao, and Xiaozhong remained skeptical. Xiaozhong voiced his doubts directly.
“Are you sure about this?”
Anxin replied firmly.
“Absolutely!”
“Fine, let’s go wait in the trucks then.”
Kaizi grabbed Sanmao and Xiaozhong by their collars, dragging the two still-doubtful men back toward the trucks.
Fortunately, Anxin’s judgment proved accurate. No sooner had they climbed back into their vehicles than a group of workers emerged from the building. A manager-like figure approached Anxin, verified her delivery details, and began organizing workers to load the cargo.
From the driver’s seat, Sanmao smirked at Xiaozhong, winking.
“See? Anxin’s reliable! She said someone would come right after her call, and they did.”
Xiaozhong huffed, unwilling to admit defeat.
“Probably just dumb luck!”
Kaizi, sitting in his truck, overheard their banter. His view of Anxin shifted slightly.
This girl knows what she’s doing, he thought. A single phone call, and everything’s taken care of.
While the men’s emotions fluctuated, Anxin remained composed. Seated discreetly in her truck, she quietly retrieved several premium packs of cigarettes and bottles of fine liquor from her storage space, slipping them into a net bag for later.
Thanks to Liu Qiang’s intervention, it didn’t take long for the workers to load the cargo. Sanmao and Xiaozhong’s trucks were loaded first and soon departed, leaving only Anxin and Kaizi’s vehicles at the yard.
Just then, a jeep pulled into the cargo yard.
Anxin glanced over, initially intending to greet Liu Qiang, but was surprised to see him rush to the rear passenger door and open it.
Su Yipeng, the boss himself, stepped out.
Caught off guard, Anxin internally groaned.
This is bad.
While she had prepared a gift for Liu Qiang, she hadn’t anticipated Su Yipeng showing up. Giving a gift to the subordinate without acknowledging the leader? That would be a serious faux pas.
Thinking quickly, Anxin raised her windshield and hurriedly retrieved items of even higher quality than what she had prepared for Liu Qiang—premium cigarettes and expensive liquor. She quickly bundled them into a gift package, ensuring it looked presentable.
By the time she finished, Su Yipeng, guided by Liu Qiang, was already approaching her truck.
Anxin pasted a polite smile on her face, stepping out of the vehicle. She extended her hand toward Su Yipeng, her demeanor respectful.
“Brother Su, what brings you here personally?”
The contract had already been signed, and the transportation process was now her responsibility. There was no need for Su Yipeng to visit in person. But since he had, Anxin made sure to appear grateful and courteous.
Su Yipeng shook her hand politely, his eyes scanning the two trucks being loaded nearby.
“I heard from Liu Qiang that you arrived at the yard early, so I decided to come take a look myself.”
In truth, his visit was a spur-of-the-moment decision. When he heard Liu Qiang was heading to the yard, he decided to tag along and see if Anxin’s transportation team was as capable as she claimed.
On the way, they’d passed two trucks already leaving the yard. Seeing the remaining vehicles being loaded confirmed Anxin’s words—her team, though smaller, was disciplined and professional.
Sensing Su Yipeng’s scrutiny, Anxin maintained her composure, countering with a stream of compliments.
“Brother Su, you’re so dedicated, personally overseeing everything. You really set an example for all of us!”
Her flattery hit the mark, putting Su Yipeng in a good mood. He pointed at her with a chuckle, clearly pleased.
