Chapter 7: Taking Shelter from the Rain
The reception room was so silent that even a pin drop could be heard.
That was until Zhou Xu returned.
“Old friend, how’s our product? Pretty good, right?”
Fu Xingjian leaned back against the chair, his posture straight and composed, exuding the imposing demeanor of a CEO. His hands rested casually on the armrests.
“Not bad. Miss Lin is very professional, and her explanations were clear and insightful.”
Zhou Xu beamed with pride, the furrowed brows from earlier smoothing out. “Lin Ran is indeed excellent.” Then, testing the waters, he asked, “So, about the follow-up…?”
Fu Xingjian’s gaze landed on Lin Ran, who had remained silent throughout. Without mentioning her earlier mistakes, he retracted his gaze and decisively said, “The contract looks fine. I’ll have Yi Ming handle the specifics.”
With that, he stood up, straightened the creases on his suit, and strode towards the door. “Thank you both for coming today. I have other meetings to attend, so I won’t be able to stay.”
Zhou Xu also stood up, watching Fu Xingjian leave the reception room. Then, he turned to scrutinize Lin Ran’s calm expression.
He had asked the HR department to send him Lin Ran’s file earlier and knew her family situation wasn’t ideal. A significant part of her dedication to work stemmed from the need to earn bonuses.
Yet, even with such a massive deal secured with Yutou, practically guaranteeing her year-end bonus would double, she remained composed, showing no signs of elation.
She was impressively strong.
Zhou Xu suddenly found himself curious about how she had honed such strength.
As his phone rang again, he ended the call and turned to Lin Ran. “Lin Ran, I need to visit the hospital later, so I won’t be able to give you a ride. Take a taxi home, and I’ll reimburse you.”
Lin Ran nodded. “Alright.”
After packing up her things and taking the elevator to the ground floor, she was greeted by howling winds and torrential rain outside.
Xicheng was a city known for its frequent rain. Even though it wasn’t spring yet, one rainstorm after another had driven the city’s residents to frustration.
Usually, Lin Ran carried an umbrella in her bag just in case, but she had forgotten it today when visiting a client.
Sigh. She’d have to wait it out.
No matter how heavy the rain, it would eventually stop.
Under the curtain of rain, the cold wind swirled, and the damp chill seeped into people’s necks. Lin Ran pulled her coat tighter and waited quietly inside the revolving door.
Thankfully, she had chosen to wear her thick coat today instead of her trench coat, or she would have been freezing.
“Miss Lin, the rain is heavy outside. You can head back to the top-floor reception room. I’ll let you know when it stops,” said a polite voice.
Looking at the man in front of her, Lin Ran took two seconds to realize he was Fu Xingjian’s assistant, Yi Ming.
“No, it’s fine. I’ll just wait down here…” She sneezed mid-sentence. “Ah-choo!”
Covering her nose, Lin Ran looked at Yi Ming apologetically.
Yi Ming maintained a friendly smile. “Miss Lin, let’s go. It’s cold down here, and if you catch a cold, Zhou always might blame us for poor hospitality.”
Lin Ran couldn’t refuse anymore and followed him back to the top floor.
After she sat down, Yi Ming brought over a cup of freshly brewed ginger tea.
Once he left the reception room, Yi Ming reflected. Zhou and Fu’s relationship seemed genuinely close. Even for a subordinate like Miss Lin, Fu had specifically instructed him to fetch some ginger tea from a female colleague for her.
He decided to tread carefully when dealing with Zhou in the future to avoid offending him.
As for Miss Lin, Yi Ming stood outside the meeting room, observing her through the glass wall. She seemed like just an ordinary employee.
