Chapter 28: Ex-Boyfriend
He spoke, and Lin Ran remembered—He Bing, her ex-boyfriend.
She hadn’t recognized him at first because he had changed his hairstyle and clothes.
Three years ago, not long after they broke up, He Bing left his job. Lin Ran silently deleted his contact information. This was their first meeting in the three years since then.
As the elevator door was about to close, they stepped out, and Lin Ran, surprised, asked him, “What a coincidence! You work at Yutou now?”
“Yeah, I joined Yutou shortly after leaving my previous job. I’ve been here ever since.”
He Bing stared at Lin Ran, and an inexplicable feeling stirred in his heart. He had thought he had forgotten her, but seeing her again still made his heart race.
Compared to the past, she was a bit fuller, her skin fairer, and up close, she was a beautiful, delicate woman. It seemed like she had been living well these years, which pleased him.
When they first got together, some of his male colleagues had openly questioned his taste in women. How had he responded back then?
He had said, “Maybe Lin Ran isn’t pretty or cute in your eyes, but to me, she’s capable, tough, straightforward. Her character is a hundred times stronger than those pretentious girls now. I’m captivated by her soul. Besides, she has a pair of bright, sparkling eyes that are even more beautiful than a movie star’s!”
Years later, he was still captivated by her bright eyes.
Lin Ran glanced at the people behind her and awkwardly pointed to the takeout at the back door of the building. “I need to go get the takeout, let’s chat another day.”
Before He Bing could respond, she waved her hand and walked toward the back door. Unexpectedly, He Bing was one step ahead and grabbed the takeout for her.
“It’s too heavy. Let me carry it for you.”
No matter what Lin Ran said, he insisted on helping, so she had no choice but to let him. After swiping her card to go up to the 23rd floor, she distributed the takeout to her colleagues, then took He Bing down to the first floor.
While going up and down the building, she briefly told him about her assignment at Yutou.
“Thank you so much today. I’ll buy you a coffee sometime.”
“No problem, you’re just being too polite,” He Bing scratched his head.
He didn’t want to say goodbye but couldn’t think of what to say. The joy had come so quickly that his mind went blank, and he couldn’t find the right words.
Lin Ran smiled at him and then glanced at the time on her fitness band.
He Bing had no choice but to softly say, “Goodbye,” and before turning around, he added, “Since it’s your first day here, you probably don’t know the area. I’ll show you around tomorrow at lunch.”
“Uh, okay.”
Once He Bing walked away, Lin Ran sighed lightly. What was going on lately? She kept running into her exes—Fu Xingjian, He Bing, both of them at the same building. It felt like a battlefield.
Sigh.
Turning around, her eyes fell on a familiar pair of leather shoes. Slowly, she lifted her gaze and saw Fu Xingjian’s cold face.
Ah, some people really can’t be mentioned. The moment you think about them, they appear.
However, as soon as she saw Fu Xingjian, another thought crossed her mind.
She still hadn’t returned the umbrella to him.
How embarrassing. Yesterday, she had promised to return it today, but she had forgotten. She quickly tried to cover up: “Mr. Fu, I forgot to bring your umbrella. I’ll definitely return it tomorrow.”
Fu Xingjian glanced at her coldly, a half-smile playing on his lips, as if he was about to mock her with a “Heh.”
Lin Ran: ? What’s his problem now?
It was just forgetting to return an umbrella. Was it really that serious?
Lin Ran rolled her eyes, turned around, and went upstairs. She wasn’t going to indulge him.
